I'm doing a project where I'm wrapping it around the entire room and I was trying to figure out how to get equal spacing on all the walls. My question is to get the calculations, should I use the longest room within the two rooms to carry the even spacing? Also, do I place a batten at each corner or just on the first wall to get the even spacing? I hope this makes sense! Thanks!

    Thanks for the calculation method! Do you have a suggestion if your baseboard is tile? (Trying to avoid removing it but am afraid if I place a 1x3 on top it’ll stick out) is your baseboard the same depth as your molding pieces? Did you use a water-treated molding for the baseboard in case of overflowing toilets or water on the floor? Thanks!

    • @LindiandRuss

      We had a rubber trim around the baseboard (a commercial product), but yet they were the same width. If I had tile, I would probably pop it off and cover it with new baseboard.

    • @LindiandRuss
      @LindiandRuss  3 роки тому

      We didn't move the sink, we had enough room behind the faucet to bring the board down to the countertop, so we did. At the toilet, we brought it within an inch of the tank, so that we still had room to remove tank lid (the toilet was too tight to the wall).

    I’m planning on doing this in a bathroom that has a 3-sided vikrell surround tub and was planning on taking the board & batten all the way to the edge of the vikrell and just caulking between the joint and using killz primer on that first piece of wood directly against the tub. Do you know if this would work fine or if there’s any regulation against it? Or if I’d just need to use a sort of composite material instead of cheap plywood.

    • @LindiandRuss
      @LindiandRuss  Рік тому

      In regards to regulations you would need to check your local area's codes/rules (province/country/state/etc). I (Russel) personally like to tile past the tub surround as I find water always finds its way to the sides of the tub, against the surround and down the face of the tube. I would be weary of having wood that close to a wet area. But if you properly seal and protect the wood you might be ok? You could also check with a local builder to see what they recommend.

    • @LindiandRuss

      we just brought the moulding up to the vanity top, and used a paintable caulking to seal. I would allow for the vanity to sit flush against the wall and not have the moulding go behind the vanity.

    Hi! I did something similar and my board is batten is under 5’ high. My mirror will be hung and will end up on half wall, half batten and I’m concerned that it will tilt too much. How did you hang your mirror so that it looks flush with batten, even though top is on wall?

    • @LindiandRuss
      @LindiandRuss  Рік тому

      It was held by keyholes in the mirror and we installed the screws into the top moulding of the board and batten to achieve the look in the video.

    I’m curious how you did the board & batten without removing the sink vanity. Did you butt the boards up to the sink? Is there a concern with them getting soaked from the sink water? I’d like to do the same in my bathroom but don’t really want to remove the sink vanity. Can you run a board along the vanity making a bottom “border”?

    • @LindiandRuss
      @LindiandRuss  10 місяців тому +1

      We didn't remove the vanity. You can just run the boards up to the vanity. We would suggest using a paint friendly bathroom caulking around the perimeter to seal and prevent water from getting to the boards. Believe DAP has some products that would work for this.

    Are your corners mitered? Did you “frame” each corner? What about plugs and switches? The devil is always in the details😈 I’ve marked my walls with top rail, but not sure about the rest. Love love love how yours turned out!! Love that dark color choice too!! 👏🏼👍🏼

      The top rail corners were mitred and we just boxed out around any plug location if the moulding intersected it. Thanks so much we loved how this project turned out too!

    • @LindiandRuss
      @LindiandRuss  Рік тому +1

      We didn’t go behind it, we just went up to the tank, but left enough space so that we could still easily open the tank lid :) There’s a couple inches between the bottom of our board and the tank.

    If I’m doing the board and batten on all 4 walls, do I add the width of each wall? And then do this calculation? Or do I do the calculation for each wall separately 😣

    • @LindiandRuss
      @LindiandRuss  2 роки тому

      I would do each wall separately so that you can plan for boards in the corners. Hopefully your walls are similar lengths so that opposite walls will be the same measurements.

    I may be dense, but the 12 /14 inches, is that from the edge of the vertical board (first board placed from the corner) or from the middle of the board? Sorry, I may be over thinking this.

    • @LindiandRuss
      @LindiandRuss  2 роки тому

      12 1/4" is the spacing from edge of moulding to edge of moulding (not middle of board). No worries, it is always better to ask. Thanks so much for watching!

      I was wondering the same thing. I am just trying to get the spacing on the shorter walls as close to the spacing on the longer walls as I can. I decided how many vertical boards to use by trying to get the spacing the same or close. Sorry, hard to explain. I hope that made sense.

  • @taylordunford9268

    Question about spacing the vertical molding pieces. I understand the calculation you showcased in your video, but how should the spacing be if each wall is a different length? I am installing board and batten through out my downstairs and every wall is a different length. how should I go about determing the appropriate distance inbetween vertical moldings? I am currently in the design phase and have settled on a distance between vertical moldings of 24 inches. When I reach a corner, I plan to install a vertical molding on each side of the corner and then start my 24 inch spacing again from the corner. I hope that description makes sense... Watching your video and seeing the calculation, I understand how that would work for 1 wall or a small room, but cannot think how to apply it to a large irregular shaped space. HEEEELLLLPPPPP

    • @LindiandRuss
      @LindiandRuss  3 роки тому

      RedMercury hey, so I would just do the same calculations for the next wall, and use a spacing that is as close as possible for the other walls. So if 22” makes sense, go with that. Honestly people will never notice the difference when you have full walls done, as long as the spacing on those walls is equal. You can also gain some space by not adding another piece in the corner (which we did in one of these bathrooms).

    Did you remove your toilet? We just realized that we don't have enough space between the wall and the toilet. 😔

    • @LindiandRuss
      @LindiandRuss  3 роки тому

      I think when you can bring the boards down behind the toilet it looks better, but in this space we didn’t remove the toilet and didn’t have space, so we actually ended the boards above the toilet. You might be able to see in some of the room shots at the end. Just make sure the boards are high enough so that you can easily remove the tank lid before you nail them down. Hope that helps!
