As someone that's been dressing this way since about 1977, your examples in this video are perfect and stunning. I live in Boston, where Preppy used to be very big (Harvard.....go figure!), but I seem to be a dying breed! But........I always get a lot of compliments. I have subscribed and will check out some more of your videos. Thanks!
Thank you for the kind comment Simon, and I am sure you have great style. :) I wouldn't say this style is a dying, but it isn't as prevalent in the cities it was rooted in. Men from other locations have picked up on the style and keep it alive.
As a senior preppy a vintage Burberry DB trench is a must, Bass pennies, flat caps, a good crush Fedora, single buckle Monk, a British hunting jacket vs Barbour, a Seiko Diver, Harris Tweed sports jacket .....additions are welcomed. LOVE YOUR EFFORTS HERE, KEEP IT UP!!!
All great items! I personally lean towards the English influence of items, and tried to keep this more for the broader audience. Thanks for the recommendations!
I love me a good shawl-collar cardigan. Shawl collar pullovers, not so much, unless it has a nice button or toggle. Also, if I could make a recommendation, give yourself a bit less headroom in the frame. Also maybe position yourself to the side so that you could have a picture next to you. "Rule of thirds" is your best friend, I find. Other than that, great video. I even learned a new term: tattersall, which I know I've seen but never knew the name of!
This is a pretty good preppy style guide; other ones I’ve viewed were too conservative and crossed the line too much into the related-but-more formal Ivy League style.
Nicholas, you did an awesome job in this video! I plan on getting some cords here before the end of November. I did have style question for you though when it comes to button-down shirts do you think they should always be tucked with pants like denim/chinos or is it ok to untuck?
Thank you, I'm so happy you liked the video. I mostly personally prefer the shirt tucked in. Nowadays it is perfectly acceptable wear your shirt untucked depending on the occasion, such as less formal ones.
Definitely a great coat! It's hard to limit the pieces down to a few essentials. I was thinking that I should do another video to cover some additional items. What other items do you think should be included?
Hi Charles! It was tough to narrow down the list especially for the dynamics of Fall and Winter. The Harrington is definitely a preppy piece, but didn't make the cut for this video. A lot of other people have mentioned other items, and I've been tossing around the idea of a follow up video with additional pieces. Are there any others you would include?
I much prefer a flat cap or baker boy for my personal taste. I didn't find the flat cap prevalent a piece to include it over the baseball cap. Thanks for the comment.
My Harrington is my favorite jacket . Brown chukkas are my go to in the fall. I am a quarter zip guy particularly from Johnnie O.

The preppy style is still booming in the southern cities.
@@djr7144 That's good to hear! :)
Ive been dressing like this since 1980 and it is timeless.
Overall great job, I would add a navy wool pea coat, a wool duffel coat (preferably Burberry), cashmere V-neck sweaters.
Great items, thanks for recommending them.
OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION!!!

agree with all those suggestions!

Good selection/recommendations of classic style.
You forgot the Duffle coat, also kmown as Monty (Montgomery) coat
Argyle sweaters
What no classic Duffle or Pea coats?
Hey bro, great video. I'm really into the preppy sweater look. Keep up the good work

You, good sir, ARE The Quintessential Gent. Tip of the hat 🎩 to you
Being a quintessential gent is an aspirational goal, and not necessarily a state. Thank you for the compliment John. :)
The video I didn’t know i needed
You forgot the Toggle Coat.
Thanks for the video.
I'm glad you liked it!
@@QuintessentialGent The winter/fall style is still relevant for me in rainy Ireland 😂😂😂.
@@dararohan1209 While I do like some rain, I hope you'll see some sunny days too. :)
Polo coat (camel hair)

What is that waxed cotton jacket you are wearing in the thumbnail of the video? Curious what brand or where you got it…
It's a Barbour Beaufort.
You forgot to mention the Classic Navy Blue Hooded Toggle Coat with the Rope Loop for the Toggles. What?
Definitely a great coat! It's hard to limit the pieces down to a few essentials. I was thinking that I should do another video to cover some additional items. What other items do you think should be included?
Leather gloves!!!
No Harrington?

Where do I buy those sweaters?
Nice video
However I would rather Wear a flatcap Than a baseballcap. :)

What are the shoes in the thumbnail?
They are LL Bean 8" boots.
Ugg! Preppy isn’t boring or bland - find it completely the opposite if done correctly.
I don't find the style boring either.
