I don't think Uruhara joined this unofficial scientists group. Cause nobody acknowledged Uruhara at first accept Yoruichi. Meaning that , without sticking himself in a group , he can easily made research or went anywhere in rukongai without any authority above him. And Uruhara started joining Gotei in stealth force under Squad 2. So , i guess sometimes when Uruhara did his works in the past, he stumbled upon Mayuri several times. And as someone who has broader knowledge than him, obviously there is spark of rivalry inside Mayuri towards Uruhara
I'm guessing that before Urahara created the department of Research and Development, technological innovations in The Soul Society came from projects that some captains would do in their spare time or during billing hours with some loyal subordinates. Let's remember that while Senjumaru looks like the mad scientist of the group, all of the Squad Zero members have invented something that affected the history of The Soul Society, so they are all scientists. It was Urahara who had the idea that instead of waiting around for one person to invent something amazing, which could take centuries, he would turn one of the Squads into a team dedicated to innovation so anyone could come, learn, hone their skills and invent something that could even be as amazing as the zanpakuto. Really big shame that Aizen got him banished after only ten years. He could have revolutionized The Soul Society a lot had he stayed.
I still want to know what was the relationship of Hikifune with Kyoraku - how come he was the only one knowing she departed to squad 0 from all captains? Why is his zanpakuto having same hair color as Hikifune?
If that's true, then this would mean that the Bount-Filler -Arc is canon as well: because in this arc, there also existed a group of scientists long before the 12th Division became what it is in the present. 🤔

The problem still remains that she has to have joined Squad 0 long enough ago to invent the Shihakusho, and she apparently wasn't even a captain of the original Gotei 13. Yet they still all wear Shihakusho meaning by the battle with Yhwach 1000 years ago, she had to already be a member of 0 Squad. So did this research group predate the Gotei 13 entirely? Or was she somehow able to run it after inventing Shihakusho or after getting inducted into Squad 0?
