They depicted Tails' PTSD and anxiety about losing Sonic better in one panel of a comic than a two hour long game.
Also, Tangle QUICKLY became a top three character for me!

IDW improved Zavok immensely, so I consider him an actual threat in those comics. Archie made him a henchman for Sigma, which makes more sense than him trying to be a big baddie.
With good writing Zavok could be like the Feriza of the Sonic Universe

Yeah, they improved the Deadly Six as a whole. The Deadly Six in the games are just random cartoon villains. The Deadly Six in the comics live up to their name in that they feel like viscious monsters
Quite honestly, the characters are all (aside from shadow) at their absolute bests in IDW! Especially my smart, yet gullible boi knuckles!

Too bad Sonic Team wasn't open to letting Ian Flynn revert Shadow's character to his pure form.
I hate how Sonic Team doesn't even know Shadows character, but yet they're still trying to push terrible edgy Shadow rather than great hero Shadow.

Ian Flynn really knows how to write these characters well His writing for it is really Amazing and I love all the references he puts in there. I’d really want him to write for the games He’s honestly the best writer for the franchise

@@shyguymike Considering he’s been writing for the comics for YEARS, and Penders hasn’t even released the self-published comic he’s been working on (And he was the reason the Archie Sonic universe collapsed), I think Flynn has some more street cred than Penders does.

I agree with the sentiment. But have the comics been selling well is the question? And will that character chemistry be actually passed onto the games? Because that's how they're mostly remembered.

For the most part. It feels like everyone went back to the Adventure 2 format in terms of personalities.
Tangle is one of my favorite new characters, love her about as much as I like Cosmo
Yeah these comics are really great.
The only two issues I have with it is how Shadow is portrayed (although that’s because of SEGA’s mandates) and how Sonic is partially responsible for nearly ending the world and he refuses to except even the slightest bit of responsibility for it.
Apart from those two nitpicks, the series is really good and I would highly recommend it.
They could just do it like forces, and tone down the angst and make him neutral

The idw comics just fixed so many characters that forces kind of ruined and made some things that made no sense in forces make actual sense.
Except for Shadow.

Theses comics are easily the best use of 2010's games, granted mostly just Colors, 4, Lost World, & Forces, but still...
As much as I enjoy the IDW series, I so dearly miss elements from the Archie series - particularly the reboot continuity - and wish they were salvaged for the other comic. I mean, characters like Relic, Thunderbolt, Clove & Cassia, Eclipse, Nephthys, Echo, Captain Shellcracker and his crew, the Hooligans, and the newer renditions of the classic Freedom Fighters were just as interesting and endearing as the likes of Tangled, Whisper, Dr. Starline, and the rest.
The modernized versions of Bean, Bark, Neck, Mighty and Ray were awesome.
I love the IDW comics so much, definitely make more Sonic IDW content. I especially can’t wait to see you talk about Silver in this comic.

Please tell me this'll be a regular thing. Your explanation of events combined with the images really helps get the full story while staying actively engaging and I can't help but want more. Of course, do what you want(which I'm told is a lot of things) but know I definitely give my support!

I haven't read much of the IDW comics at all I've only seen some dubs of the first few issues but I really enjoyed what I saw there! I might consider actually reading them fully when I can!

The way I see Amy is someone that's a girly girl ,but still capable of holding her own. Also the main reason Amy goes after sonic is because her Tarot cards told her. Also who is this "edgy" person she teams up with? Please don't tell me Sonics the edgy one.
@@KEEPTALKIN8215 Amy follows Sonic because she was bored of her boring life as stated in SA1. Yea she love shim, but the reason she pursues chasing Sonic again after the classics is because Sonic was a source of adventure for her.
A lot of people these days seem to think that tomboyishness is just about looking feminine or not when it smore about behavior and interests.
Amy convinced Shadow to not end the planet in SA2. She also comforted Gamma emotionally and protected him from Sonic.
I'm getting some of these for my birthday actually. I've heard good things of these.

I love the idw comics, I just wish they actually used the comic characters in their games and shows, like all of that waste potential
They really toned down Amy at some point in the Archie comics, which honestly seemed to kickstart the rest of the series using her better to, from Sonic Boom onward, or pontentially before. Point is, Archie did it first, and in a very cool way to boot.

The Archie Comics will always be my favorite series because it was like extending the SATAM cartoon adding characters from modern Sonic games, modernizing the SATAM characters, modernizing Nack The Weasel, modernizing Bean The Dynamite, modernizing Bark The Polar Bear, modernizing Mighty The Armadillo, modernizing Ray The Flying Squirrel and adding more antagonist characters.
I just started reading these last year, and I'm so glad I did! It's what I'd love the stories in the games to be like! I've only read the first 4 issues, and I can't wait to catch up on the rest!
Archie ruined Knuckles for a bulk of its run and when Ian Flynn showed up, he ironed out a few problems. Even with his vision, Ken Penders made sure there was 3 bad ideas for every 1 good or great idea.
We lost so much good stuff when IDW got the rights to the comics but the spirit of the Archie comics remain as a lesson for the staff. I see IDW Sonic as the Good Ending for a rocky history.

They were the first things I actually wanted to read
My only problem is how quickly they turned Eggman completely evil again, then immediately creates a zombie virus which I don’t think is his style.
They should have made other villain that used his technology to do that.
Eggman’s not one for releasing biological weapons, he prefers more direct methods and actually taking over the world to rule it, not turning everyone into boring robots.
Maybe Satam Robotnik, but not in the games
This problem goes actually back to the fact that the Metal Virus arc was originally written as an Archie Comic story and Archie Eggman was much more of a "destroy all live" psychopath than Game Eggman ever was (as a matter of fact would Eggman Nega properly fill that role better for the games)
And this is an issue that expanse beyond just the Virus creation it self but also in how Eggman deals with losing control in the story which namely being abandoning the world and wanting to escape to a different world which would make sense for Archie Eggman but not for Game Eggman which this one is suppose to be as he would have tried everything to fix the problem rather than to just run away (see Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Adventure 1 as good examples of it).
Ryno Behnke Ya, you’re right about it fitting Archie Eggman better. Especially when account how long he’s been fighting Sonic for and even surviving an universe reset with his original memories.

Honestly, The IDW Comics are great. I'd read Sonic the Comic (That was the 90's Sonic Comic in the United Kingdom) they where good and knows how to tell a better Dark story (unlike Sonic 06 which is still the worst story telling in any Sonic game IMO) but Archie from Issue 51 though Issue 159 where all over the place thanks to He who should not be named. I have enjoyed Ian Flynn's writing since He took over with Archie Sonic 160 but the IDW comics is where He shins.
The IDW comics is a good balance between Lighthearts and Dire moments and feels like a Shounen Anime like Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z/Dragon Ball Z Kai, Dragon Ball Super and My Hero Academia. My only criticism I have with the comic is Shadow, Sonic fanboys like to blame Ian Flynn for that and say that the Sega Mandates are fake, but Sega's stupid mandates is why Shadow is flanderized (no thanks to He who should not be named) but Shadow has gotten better in Issue 35 but Characters like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy ECT feel like how they are
Sonic is still cocky but We got to see Him get Angry during the Metal Virus arc, Tails is not a wimp, Knuckles is loyal to His duty to protect the Master Emerald but gullible, Amy is not Number one Sonic Fangirl anymore and Zavok really shins in the Comics then in Sonic Lost World making Him more like Freiza then Bowser 2.0 and I enjoy Tangle, Whisper, Belle and Jewel as great addition, Dr. Starline is a great secondary villain and could be more dangerous then Dr. Eggman, Rough and Tumble give Me a good laugh and I would love to see a arc where Sonic, Tails, Amy and Whisper take on Mimic after Zeti Hunt.
With Pontaff not writing for the games anymore I hope Sega can get Ian Flynn to wright the next Sonic game (even though He's overworked). Yes Ian is not perfect but I think We can get a good story like Sonic Heroes and Sonic Unleashed Lighthearted when it needs to be Dire when We reach the Climax to the game

I mean, not wanting to get into the Archie Sonic comics is fair. The only Archie Sonic comics I read and actually remember was when the Mega Man and Sonic Crossovers happened.

I preferred the Ian Flynn-era Archie comics over what we have now, but I think that's just because I don't really care for the world that comes from the games. It feels really small and bland compared to the Archie comics.
After all the years the Archie comics ran, it felt more like the MCU. The world felt vibrant and dynamic, with all these characters that you may or may not have seen (depending on when you started reading), all these obscure characters that they may have introduced once and never gone back to until now. All these long-running plot threads. A lot of casual and fluid character interactions like you see in the early IDW Sonic comics (they brought over Ian Flynn from the Archie comics). It was so engaging and felt like a real, big world.
Shard (original Metal Sonic, turned good) vs. Metal Sonic (latest model) was probably my favorite moment. You can really feel the character growth in their writing.
I'm sad now.
