- Here is a video of me digging a coin spill from the river with my Garrett AT Pro. In this video, I have recovered 178 silver coins dating from 1837 and before from this site. Sorry about all of the "check it out"s in the video, but I was just a tad excited. Be sure to check out the end of the video if you get too bored to make it all the way through. UPDATE See my video "Aquachigger's Cache..." for up close photos of every coin.

Still one of the best metal detecting videos. I still watch it every once in a while.
Happy you still like it.
@@aquachiggeryou should do a new video on how many coins you found.
Same here. It's amazing
THE best metal detecting video in my opinion. The hole that kept on giving! I'm curious about that floating algea though. Did u get a rash or anything from bumping into it? That stuff has kept me from even getting into a creek because u just never know man.
In October of 2012 Dug a small hole in my backyard and hit a metal object. I found a old teapot type container with the words Philadelphia furnace. Inside there was a cloth that wrapped up over 300 dollars in gold coins all dated prior to 1858
That's an awesome find! Never been that lucky but the more you do it the better the chance. Treasure is where you find it. 😊
Well sir you now own ypur house

I am rewatching this video for the first time in years. The last time I watched it was when Beau first put it on UA-cam, had maybe a couple thousand views. On Saturday, March 16th, 2019, I dug first 2 reale. I was so, SO excited, and I still attribute my detecting addiction to Beau after so many years. This is where it started for me.
I’ve watched this video like 20 times and it never gets old. This is just too insane
Me too man me too.
And while digging them so calmly, "oh look another coin". I would have been sh@&ting my pants
@@4thdimensiontravels855 me three!
That has to be a metaldetectorist's dream. A find of a lifetime!
An absolutely spectacular discovery!!! Congratulations!!! Watching 14 minutes of your discoveries is better than any TV show/ Reality Show out there!! Keep up the great work and may the next ones all be yellow!!
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!!!!!! I would just DIE if I found this!!!!!!!
Wow this is easily one of the best coin spill finds on UA-cam without a doubt! Great video!

Wish I could go back in time and see how these got there and why they were lost.
Creeks were Horse Highways back then and when water was high, even a horse would slip and dunk trying to cross.
Rivers people travelled on raft to start new life and water high even tiny bend one would get moving to fast and run into the corner and lose everything.
Homes robbed, maybe native American attack and Indians had no use so would chuck...
My area native Held even in 1840''s, in spots they camped but prior it was their land...White eyes junk mattered not to them.
In fields between Maryland and Penna, can find spots where settlers traded with Colonials and coppers were not shiny so would get tossed in the dirt..
Darn amazing!!!!.....This guy hit epic jackpot with numismatic value has to be $50k graded... would love to know...
@@aldenunion Indians would of definitely grabbed them. They used silver.
@@cousinsgrimm7952 I did not just make it up as detecting trading locations the colonial coppers and other coins chucked like trash.(Is known, even in early publications).
Scavaging they would leave them and take the important materials.
They wanted Hyde,salt,material, blankets
The little they "use",sure would not waste trade items on them when can get themselves or in trading with other tribes who did not even value it when was within they're range.
Gold and Silver was still all over back then, did not even need to be mined in many locations.
There were more important items they wanted, were not caring about soft metal to them they could get to easy.
Way back trimming out a handle with silver or bracelet meant little when they were cold and hungry, that was a later thing.
@@aldenunion didn’t say you made it up or even hinted that. All I’m saying to native Americans would grab silver coins too.
If I had to wager a guess, it was a payroll
I see titles like this ALL THE TIME, and 90% of the time, it's clickbait. Not you, good sir. Every time I've clicked on one of your videos, I see exactly what the title says. It says something about a channel, when it's content is so cool it doesn't need clickbait like every other channel seems to.

I didn't know this was the video that started it all. It's a great find, and I see why AC has been so popular. His easygoing demeanor and the way he explains things is very informative and easy to watch.
It was fun seeing the old pinpointer, too. Before the Propointer AT came out, folks were waterproofing their own.

Apparently in 1837 there was a banking system crisis. Many banks went under. The following from Wikipedia:
"The Panic of 1837 was a financial crisis in the United States that touched off a major recession that lasted until the mid-1840s. Profits, prices and wages went down while unemployment went up. Pessimism abounded during the time. The panic had both domestic and foreign origins. Speculative lending practices in western states, a sharp decline in cotton prices, a collapsing land bubble, international specie flows, and restrictive lending policies in Great Britain were all to blame. On May 10, 1837, banks in New York City suspended specie payments, meaning that they would no longer redeem commercial paper in specie at full face value. Despite a brief recovery in 1838, the recession persisted for approximately seven years. Banks collapsed, businesses failed, prices declined, and thousands of workers lost their jobs."
I suspect that what you found was either the private stash of an individual attempting to protect his money from going down with the local bank or a banker attempting to save some of a bank's specie (coin) from its depositors. Something must have happened to the person stowing the money otherwise he would have come back to retrieve it. Perhaps he was hung by his unhappy depositors. And it could have been the stash of a thief. All of this is speculation of course. Very interesting stuff.
***** How much is that metal detector?
studyhistory2ctruth You can can get the Garrett AT Pro for $600. It is a FANTASTIC machine. I have several and it is my favorite all around detector out of all of them.
We should research the history, maybe there's a clue
@@aquachigger you rock dude I've always wanted to hunt treasure since I was a little kid and seen The Goonies and picked up Arrowheads with my dad back home in Idaho but this whole magnet thing is a whole nother angle I never really thought of Till recently. I kind of just came up with the idea on my own and didn't find any videos or know anyone else was really doing it till last night when I found your videos awesome stuff man! I live in Kitsap County Washington east of Seattle across the water on the big Peninsula so got lots of places to look starting today!
Very interesting insight - thanks Jerry. Research and logic about location selection are critical keys to successful metal detecting. Not sure how much Aquachigger did of that going into this spot, but I'd bet he doesn't just hop in a random creek and see what's there.
I don't normally comment on youtube videos, but had to for this one. Back in 2016 I was working night shift and one night on a day off, I was going down the rabbit hole of youtube videos and came across this one. Before this, I knew nothing about detecting. This video is what got me to buying a Garrett Ace 250 ( I swing the Equinox 800 now) and gave me the opportunity to search for treasure all over the U.S. and other countries. I just wanted to say thanks for the videos and showing how exciting this hobby can be!
Find anything good?
how were you not shaking and freaking out ?! lol seriously i would have been so freaked out and screaming
Lol, have you seen how many finds are in his collection? Just check out his video "River Treasure: My Collection Of Hunting Finds From 2014" (and keep reminding yourself that its finds just from one year, lol).
@@TrilobiteTerror This video is from 2011 though, next thing is... that's a certain coins drop and everyone gets SUPER excited when they find one. I don't know, I love Chig but this vid feels a bit weird. He gets more excited about navy shells findings nowadays :D
@@versedi Yes this video is from 2011 (not sure how that's relevant, he's been finding stuff for years). The main difference between this video and one in which he's getting more excited (over things like navy shells) is that he didn't film his initial reaction here (he already has a handful of coins, it could be 10 minutes after he found them for all we know).
The amount of history that must have happened in and around that area! This is so great to watch! Thank you so so much for sharing your adventure. I pray and hope you gave your finds a good home. :)
I have watched this video a couple of times, and I think I would have fallen over and died in the water if I had found those! I am a woman, so I don't think quite like a man, and, that said, I would mount these up on a velvet background and daydream about where they came from, and what happened to bring them to the place I found them!. I pray you enjoy the wonder of this find, and reap many years of enjoyment from their beauty! Congratulations to you and your family on this incredible find!
Still my all time favorite detecting video. Hadn’t seen it in a while. Love your channel.
One of the coolest coin hoards found ever captured on video.
It's honestly a dream to find something like this. Like just pulling up an 1803 half dollar, than pulling up 3 or 4 8 reales coins
it's a dream to find TWO.
How can you act so calm? I would not even be able to speak! Congratulations.
What an awesome day that was! I had to come back and revisit this video. It's one of my favorite of many Chigg vid's.
IIRC, this may have been the first Aquachigger video we watched. I we have been hooked ever since! Exciting find and the coins just kept coming, and coming, and ...
I almost drowned! You didn't tell me to hold my breath! lol
This made me laugh
Hey Beau! Wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your videos on metal detecting. I have had detecting as a minor hobby for 25 years or so and I have never found anything like what you have. I like the way you do the videos and your approach as a fun loving serious hunter is clear and refreshing compared to other videos by other guys. I am still using a White Spectrum, pretty good machine, although 20 years old I guess. I appreciate how you never tell where you are when you find great stuff. I was wondering if you do research on an area before you go out, or word of mouth, or just good luck? Keep up the good work! Charlie
Wow! That's awesome! The best thing I've found is 17 coins from a shipwreck on Lake Michigan. They all are american and date from 1835 to 1876. Of course I am still going back there and continue to find around 5 coins on average each time.
Just came back to this video. Just as good as the day I watched it when he posted it. Happy hunting!
Wow that's incredible stuff. I am 100% jealous and I'm not ashamed to say it! Glad you found those coins. Great video.
I am watching in the further. You are so young here. This was 5 years ago. You have been digging a while. Neat find!
I'll bet you my lunch, that's a bandit dump. Someone robbed something in 1836 or early 1837 and stashed the take with the intent of coming back for it, but either lost it, or wasn't able to make it back. This great nation is dotted with lost bandit takes just like this. Amazing find though. Love your channel. Can't wait to binge-watch my way through the rest.
Holy Cow..!...those early American silver halves at that amount and condition is a coin collectors dream. They have to be pretty valuable and those big Spanish silvers just amazing.
$1912 is the price of 6.5 pounds of silver. Excluding the actual value of the coins. Very sexy find.

Beau, this video is no doubt the most inspirational video on detecting I have ever seen. Your dedication never disappoints. Happy hunting, 2018 bud.
Beau, I entertain myself while hubby watches ballgames, etc. watching metal detecting videos...I metal detect a bit. Can't swim and won't make it in a river...haaa but on land I love it. I really enjoy your videos and find myself watching them over and over. What do you think, or wish to think, the story is on all these coins? Do you think they were hidden to be later came back for, or simply lost during battle. So very interesting and I, too, think of the person/persons who had them and last held them. What a find. Congrats. Always waiting for a new vid to pop up of yours. God Bless
This is the kind of thing I want to be doing!! I love coins, and I love treasure hunting! This video is so exciting :D
I really can't believe that. I don't know what I would do if I found something like that. That is truly amazing. And just the history of all of it behind every dig. Great job. I love your videos so much.
Long metal detecting videos are usually boring, but this one had me glued to my seat and drooling on every find. Great job!
***** At 9:45 it IS a Portuguese coin, you can see perfectly the armillary sphere and the Infante D.Henrique Cross or Portuguese crist cross behind the armillary sphere, those are national Portuguese symbols
and at the 9:58 in the other side of the coin you have the coat of arms of Portugal Kingdom.
AWESOME
***** one thing you get right, it has something to do with Brasil, it was the imperial Portuguese used in Brasil, since Brasil was a Portuguese colonie.
It sais in Latin "Joannes dg Port et alg p Regens et Bras" what means in Portuguese "João Rei de Portugal, Algarves e Brasil" translated to English is "John King of Portugal, Algarves and Brazil".
D.João VI or King John the sixth (call it whatever you want) was the Portuguese King in 1815, the date in the coin.

***** Thank you, I will go with the 250 or 350
It actually IS Brazilian. It was minted in Brazil. Something interesting about these "960 Reis" coins is that almost all of them were minted over 8 Reales coins. If you take a closer look at it you'll notice some traces of an 8 Reales mint in it.

Pretty amazing composition of the treasure - such a variety of coins from different countries! And only silver. I'm impressed with your passion for the search, you're so happy! Good luck!
the coins that have holes in them. in my history reading. pirates would weave them into there cloths on bracelets necklaces. etc. kinda of a way to show status, or symbolize how much "treasure" or bounty they had collected/stolen. interesting to see that. because its not seen to often.

Several of those coins are Spanish Pillar Dollars. One ounce of silver. The coat of arms of Spain on one side and King George on the other. George Washington would have had several of these in his pocket as they were considered legal tender up until about 1850. This is a huge find and you should research it. Keep the location secret till its played out.
