  • Kansas guitarist and ever present member of the band, Rich Williams, talks about how he felt intimidated by Steve Morse when he first joined the band! And that's coming from a man who played in a band with hits like "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind"! But, at this point Steve Morse had already been voted Best Guitar Player in the World for 3 years running! But Rich soon found out that Steve was such a down to earth guy that there was nothing to worry about! Steve Morse would later leave the band to play as part of Deep Purple for nearly 30 years!!

True professional musicians typically behave that way: Respectful toward their peers. You’ll rarely catch any well-known musician trashing or bashing another musician in a way that is all-too-common in comment sections filled with amateurs and “semi-pro” bar band guys who think they’re The Shit. It And the perpetrators are usually bitter and childish.

My first concert ever was the Dixie Dregs opening for Kansas in 1980 at the Salt Palace SLC. I didn’t know who the guitarist was until later for the Dregs. Holy hell he smoked everyone. Morse is the real deal.

I saw Kansas live at an Open Air Festival in Stuttgart in the 80s. I also met him at Frankfurt Music Fair back then... Really nice guy...

I've seen Steve play at least 50 times and have stayed after dozens of times to say hello after the show. The band always used to come out and hang out with the fans so I've chatted with Steve many times. My two favorite encounters were at the Ventura Theater where Steve hung out with my wife and me for about an hour and half just chatting away about pretty much anything and everything and the second was at NAMM. I stood there talking to one of the all time greats without anyone else intruding while a couple of hundred people stood in line for an autograph from Slash right next us. I couldn't believe it. He's a very cool dude and so is Dave LaRue. I'm a lucky guy to have witnessed their greatness so many times.

First time I heard Steve Morse was with Dixie Dregs.later his first album and the song VHF. Thought the DJ on KMET was going to have a stroke because that guitar playing on that song was beyond incredible.

@@wsmc723 KMET is the place to be for good music on your radio. I miss those days as well. Wife and I moved bout 30 odd years ago when CA went tits up. I remember when, forgot his name, DJ on KMET was mad at all the back east clowns moved to CA and were pricing him out of being able to afford living. He was fired. The other two great stations were HIS and HER radio in San Diego. Where I am from. OB Rangers at heart
