The Raaga is Hanuma Todi in Karnataka classical music. It wasnt used much in movies and us classical musicians didn't sing infront of normal crowd because most people don't like it at first hearing. You had to be well versed in classical music to appreciate the hour long compositions. If you like it there are other similar ragas like Varali, chakravaka, charukeshi which give similar vibes.

The dance is highly stylized and performed as part of 'Bhootaradhane' or worship of the local deities worshipped by the Tulu speaking population. The song speaks about guliga diva and panjurli diva the 2 gods are so prominent in the Madya and koorge side of Karnataka that if disrespected people will not spare them. The creators of this movie had to take so many permissions from temples and study the dance and gods' history with extreme care.
