Definitely a super interesting and learning video, keep making videos like this, people like me that doesn't know that much about this world it helps a lot...
New to cigars and have found that the v cut is easy and don’t have to think. But I must learn the straight cut to get more out of the cigar. Thanks for the video!
Very good and informative video! I have to try the the cross V cut on my next Encore! I personally prefer a straight cut for your cigars, because of there gauge and to fully taste the flavors!
A torpedo needs to be examined a bit more carefully than a regular vitola. Look at your Torpedo and find the midpoint between the tip or very pointed end at the head of the cigar and the part where the slope of the Torpedo joins the body of the rest of the cigar. Once you find these then figure out the midpoint between them. The midpoint is where you will cut to be safe and not damage the cigar by cutting to deep. I would personally use a straight cut but I’ve seen it done with a v cut.
Thanks for the video. Have shared with my friends. My preference, on large ring gauge cigar sizes, has always been a straight cut; and I agree with David , as I use the punch and V-cut depending on cigar size.
I prefer the v-cut or the punch cutter because it gives you not only a smoother draw from the cigar when leisurely with a good whiskey on the rocks but a more enjoyable cigar smoking whereas you have no leaves debris onto the mouth where the classic straight cutters does. That’s just my opinion but good smoking my BOTL SOTL and cheers!! May the best person win the humidor and light em up like a Boss!!
For the first one with no question yes a V-cut or punch cut give off less tobacco debris than a traditional straight cut. A solution to that is tap the cut costs far head down against a clean ashtray to tap out the debris. Of course a V-Cut or Punch are not free of debris they just give off less.
Great info, typically i use a straight cut but like to mix it up at times. Excited to get some of the Pledge in to join the La Historia and Majestic's I have aging.
I’ve always used a knife, in fact I have a knife only for cutting my cigars with I keep it very sharp always. There is an art to using a knife to cut a cigar it’s not a fast thing and I like that I take my time and do it right its a skill, it’s part of the joy of smoking a cigar as will as using cedar spills to light my cigars it’s all an enjoyable experience/process that takes time and to enjoy the cigar that 200 hands have worked to make for my enjoyment.
I'm an American living in Hoi an Vietnam. It's very limited in cigars to choose from here. I pretty much smoke Cohiba Robusto. I would love to try your cigars! Are there any retailers or distributors that you know of here in Vietnam? Please let me know. Thank you for your very informative and educational cigar videos! ATB Sam Adler from Vietnam
Great video! I got to say tho I'm a pretty die hard V cut guy as of late. However very informative! On a side note lol... Can we get a re birth of the edicion limitada 2011 dark rituals? That was the cigar that ignited my passion for cigar smoking. I've been chasing that smoke and experience ever since.
I'm going to use that sideways cut with the v-cutter on a box press for sure. That's a nice hack. I also like a v-cutter for a chisel. But I would liked to have seen some examples of more exotic shapes like torpedos, pyramidos, and figurados.
Love the video, will be sure to share it with my friends. Just one question! What about torpedos? What’s the best way to cut those without damaging the cigar?! By the way Encore is my favorite cigar!!!
A torpedo needs to be examined a bit more carefully than a regular vitola. I personally prefer the V-Cut, especially with larger gauges. But I understand what David is saying about opening up the cigar. Usually I straight cut on cigars that have a tapered tip like the torpedo or belicoso.
I am a huge fan of the “cross cut” v-cut for any round cigar. Box pressed cigars seem to draw best with the “sideways” v-cut. Honestly though, I haven’t found a bad way to cut or smoke an E.P. Carrillo.
Nos alegra poder ayudar con buenos consejos, estamos considerando una serie de videos para compartir experiencias de fumadores mas expertos, que mas te gustaría saber del mundo del tabaco?
As far as a Dickman cut yes that is a classic way to cut a torpedo and correct term. The true Dickman cut is at a 45 degree angle but today many cut at whatever angle they like. The purpose is to better direct the smoke up to your palate or down to your tongue. Thanks for commenting.

Great info! Wondering the best way to cut a torpedo shaped cigar. Any videos on that?

V-Cut are my favorite cuts, however may do straight cut as well, this would depend on the vitola.
Very true indeed. Thanks.
