- With mowing season firing up, we decided to tackle a much needed side project of adding weight to the John Deere Mower. Thank you for this video. Great ingenuity and practical, too! I know you said your 45 lbs on each wheel has improved the traction to your satisfaction but did you give any consideration to also adding liquid weight to the tire? I don’t know if that would be overkill but I do know that John Deere sells a blade and a sweeper for that model and that extra weight would come in handy in the snow and mud season. Once again, great job.!
Adding calcium or antifreeze is aways an option I just didn't want to liquid fill the tire. Could always go that route if I need more weight I guess.

Well thats handier than a pocket on a shirt. I have two garden tractors Im going to do this for. But Im not in public with them so Ill chop the hub flange on the outside one off and a groove to get to the valve stem then fill with concrete. That should be close to 60lb per. Plenty for a plow dozer blade.

We usually through stuff in scrap pile for a while. As long as we are using out of it we leave it there. We it get too big we haul it off. We don't haul it off very often. Lol
I have same exact tires and wheels i filled them with about 5 gallon of fluid each tire weighs 80 pounds now
back up steeper hills...use uphill brake pedal on sidehills and inside brake when turning...
I have found that it will go just about anywhere backwards. Thanks for sharing.
@@wrenchbenders what type of truck rotors did you use ? How much do they weigh ?
@@craigalston2208 one set is off of a Arcadia Denali and the other is off of a 2500hd Duramax. With brackets they weigh in at 44lbs per side.
@@wrenchbenders thanks for the help . Sometimes the OEM weight prices can get outrageous unless you're restoring a garden tractor for a show piece . For a work horse this will do just fine in my opinion .😁

Okay, dumb question from the gal who's likely to get herself killed mowing. What is the effective difference between doing wheel weights like this versus filling the front tires? Other than it's way more fun to do what you're doing, and cool to watch. :-D
Loading tires with fluid is an effective way to add weight to wheels. Calcium is heavier than water and weighs about 11 lbs per gallon. The only thing I have against loading tire is it can be messy for checking air pressure and changing tires. 4 gallons of calcium would be equal to the same as the weights I built. Why didn’t you just put fluid in the tires!
Could have done that and still might on the next set of tires. I just thought physical weights would be a good option with junk rotors laying around.
When working with brakes, and grinding dust & rust. ALWAYS wear a mask! ASBESTOS don't ya know?
