    Hey everyone!
Firstly sorry I haven’t uploaded in a while ! I’m getting back in to it over here 😊
Second let me know what you think of the new 600mm. I think Nikon offers a great range of long lenses now (yes apart from the one big admission!)
Thanks you so much for watching ❤

Nice honesty on the 600 vs 400. I have the 3 big FL lenses and I find the 600 is great workhorse, but the 400 the Swiss army knife.
800 is super specialized and was for a special project.
I wish Nikon would look at a 50-1000 style cine servo as those things are incredible ( and incredible price) but the wildlife video prod masterpiece
The Z9 is a great video unit and I keep banging on to NPS about how good it is like a broken record

I’d like to see what you think about image degradation with adding a 2.0X TC to the 400 mm f/2.8 Z for an equivalent focal length of 800 mm f/5.6 vs. this 600 mm f/4 with the TC engaged and an equivalent 840 mm focal length. Is it worth the additional $903 USD for 40 mm ( $15,496.95 vs $13,996.95 + $596.95 for TC) ?I mostly shoot small birds in the tropics where I think the low light gathering ability of the f/2.8 might serve me better.

Appreciate the video, I actually did pre-order the 600 with NPS; birds and wildlife are my obsession, and what was really helpful was the comparison to the 800 6.3. I own that lens along with the 500 PF, and 100-400; currently planning on selling the 800 and 500 likely to defray the cost. My biggest concern was sharpness; would the 600 with the TC engaged at 840mm be as sharp as the 800, and sounds like it will be. I love the 800, but to have two lenses in one basically, and to be able to shoot at f4 in lower light is a real game changer. While bigger and heavier it's certianly lighter than the older Nikon 800 5.6 too.

First and foremost, thanks for a valuable product review, well crafted and quite helpful. However, there is one aspect of the review that’s missing; availability. I’ve been shooting Nikon from the days of the D70. I have virtually one of every body since then and a huge collection of glass. To say I’m heavily invested in the Nikon system is an understatement. My key focus is wildlife - almost exclusively. I’ve made the transition to Milton mirrorless - trusting the company and the brand to deliver on the platform migration in a reasonable timeline. To cut to the chase I’ve been wholly disappointed. I put my order in for the 400 and 800 z mount the day they were announced. My dealer shuns me when I ask every 3 or 4 months for an eta. Since I’m retired this is actually a big deal for me. I only have so many days where I’m able to traverse the wilderness and handhold big primes or the tripods needed to “get the shot.” I’ve been told it will be about another year until I can pay Nikon for the privilege of having a suitable lens. At the point - I’m face a horrible and unpleasant choice- ditch my exclusive camera brand of the last 30 years and go buy an A1 and a 400 and a 600 - in stock at dealers - or wait. And note my large f mount lenses do not work well on the Z9. For one they turn on the VR motors constantly. So no VR lest I burn out motors that are no longer available for repairs. Sorry for the long complaint - but Nikon’s refusal to invest in adequate production capacity is wearing on me. So one ask - and don’t dodge the question please - what’s the intended production rate for 400 and the 600 - and how does that map to the installed base of f mount versions? Please get on the phone and call Nikon and demand an answer to a reasonable question from a loyal customer. And please don’t insult those of us in this situation- with an response of: know one knows - it’s the chip shortage - global supply chains are tricky…all that is bunk since Sony can put stock in dealers. Nikon knows the answer to this question- they just seem to be unwilling to make it public Thank you for your kind consideration.

a lovely piece of kit for 5 digit $ lens, just wish this was the 200-600 Z so that the rest of the nikon users can enjoy the Z more. A lens for a small % of the user base over one that benefits a lot of the user base, a bit like waiting on the Z6/7III or the Z8, as there is little chance of a Z9 in the UK, just watching and enjoying great equipment. Your work as always Ricci, is the best and most balanced going, great vid, 2 of my fav Nikon photographers.

I think Nikon has a winner here. For those who had a D5 or D6 and then got onto the Z9, but still used the old 600mm with an FTZ, this is enticing with the built-in TC. None of the other manufacturers offer that. The only question for some of those photographers is, what's worth more: the old lens and both kidneys, or this new lens? ;)
I do hope that Nikon will now (finally) turn its attention to cheaper telezoom options. This is an area where they currently have nothing. The 200-600 has been on the roadmap for a long time, and a variable-aperture 70-300ish lens or 70-200 f/4 also wouldn't hurt at all. But then I'd also expect Mk III versions of the Z6 and Z7.

Great video :) TY. I mostly shoot tiny birds, from (hopefully no more than) about 25 or 30 ft, so for me, reach is everything. If I had this 600 TC, the TC would be pretty much be engaged ALL the time. Also, the first time I carried it on my back, I'd miss the coolest shot of the trip. So having to carry my tripod and camera / lens in my hands at all times, the PF 800 being a couple lbs lighter, would be a big help too. < This said, I could definitely see an IQ difference in your comparison. As much as I hate to say it, I think the 600 TC looks slightly, but noticeably better..... which I guess, for the price, and the extra couple pounds, it should. BTW, I shoot with a Canon R5 and R7, and the super cheap, super light > super slow :) lol ... 800 F11, and getting some really nice, sharp shots, albeit, mostly perched birds, where I can run my shutter down as slow as I have to. Not a fanboy of any specific brand. I LOVE Nikons and Sony's too :) I'll take 2 of each plz :)

I have recently got the z600mm and like it so much because of its image quality and sharpness.
One question I have however, if I need the extra distance for birding photography, which would be the better option, add the 1.4×/2.0x TC, use the DX mode or just crop the image in the post production?
Keeping in mind the image quality, sharpness and details.
    Thanks 🙏🙏

@23:00 - Ricci Rich, poor little rich boy! (reference to an American comic character). I have pre-ordered my Z600/4. I was on the list for the 400/2.8 for all the same reasons that Morten noted, but overall I think the reach is more important to me than the stop of light (wish I could afford both). The big question will be - will this make my Z800PF obsolete in my kit?

Hello Ricci, brilliant video as always and Morten adds value! Nikon is just bringing out the most fantastic lenses and I wish I could buy them all. I am just exchanging my D850 and D500 for a Z9 and need to decide whether I keerp my F 300 F 2.8 and 70-200 or exchange them for longer glass for my wildlife shooting! How would a 300 F2.8 work with an FTZ? Could I add a TC 1.4? If not, I loose the advantage of the crop sensor of the D500 and need to get longer glass, I think. I could get the 400 F2.8 and keep the 70-200! Would the 400 F2.8 work with a TC 2.0 IIIE or would the loss of quality be too much? I would love your opinions, pls!

Thank you for your videos, Ricci. It’s so helpful to compare those Nikon lens. How do you think between 800mm F/5.6 FL with my Z9? Should I trade for 600mm Z? Please give me advice.
    Thank You 🙏

Hi Ricci, nice video. I need your advice. Is Nikon z6ii worth buying in 2023 January, for wildlife photography or should i wait for z6iii of which i have no idea when is going to release.

Great video 👋 If you have to walk far away to get your photos weight is important. Heavy cameras, lenses, tripod and other stuff can make you tired and slow you down. As you are getting older weight of your equipment is becoming more and more important. I have Z9 but do wildlife with Z7II and 400/4,5 - a great compromise between weight, practicality and my age.

Will we see the Z6III this year?
It's simply a must Nikon is not in the global camera sales charts with the exception of the Nikon Z9 which is large and heavy... and therefore urgently must have a camera for the middle class

Can I suggest a Z9 feature, pre capture raw would be really useful even at 15fps. High efficiency* or High Efficiency would be acceptable. Even 1/2 second.

Ricci, Nice comparison and made me feel comfortable that my Z800 quality is comparable to the 600. I had watched Morten's video already and can't lose any magic with his passion driven wildlife videos. A question: where do we buy the built-in filters for the 800mm Z? Any thoughts?

Nice lens. Little pricey for my pocket!!! I like your subtle hint of "there's a lot that can happen in 12 months"..... yeah you know that 200-600 is coming... why it's taking so long is baffling as it was one of the first lenses on the road map. One more I'm waiting for is that 135mm, that will be a cracker. I had an old d5000 coupled with a FF85mm and that produced some really nice pics. Again nice video, very honest and informative 👍 👌

Ricci AND Morton in the same video. BONUS! I've cancelled my order for the new 800 pf (never been happier about supply chain delays) and have ordered one of these new 600mm beauties. More lens than I am photographer :) but am so looking forward to getting it in hand on my Z9. I became addicted to a built in TC with my 180 to 400, so having one on the 600 is a big selling point for me on this lens. Thanks as always for your great video content, sir.

I have the Z428 TC, it is very a versatile lens and can cater for a lot of situations. I have sold my F640 and was waiting for the new Z640, but after I got the Z428TC and used for a while, I really think twice that do I need the new Z640, maybe not now till some desperate situation pops up to give me a compulsory reason to consider it. :p Having say that, the Z640TC looks very cool!

I own a Nikon 600mm f/4 VR telephoto lens, the truth is the quality is very good even with the x1.4 converter, I'm sure this much lighter will be fantastic, I use it with my Reflex D4s and D5 cameras, just thinking that this is cvasi 2kg lighter makes me long teeth,. I find the option of a backpack interesting, but I think a rigid suitcase is necessary. Best regards.

Out of curiosity WHY does Nikon NOT have arca feet on their long lenses? Is it a patent thing or something? The arca foot is the first thing EVERY person does with a lens this size. Unless there is some logistical reason it just seems like Nikon is being obstinate.

Would it be possible to get the grip and either the 400 or 600, or even 100-400 and put together a short clip demoing its advantages.
I've been singing the Z9s many praises in videoland and having your video is going to be a faster ref than me getting the grip.
Nikon have a great video tool and some stunning wildlife lenses on stream.
They just need to knock on more doors as some of my colleagues haven't realised just what a package it was.

Thank you for your insight. Both the 600 and 400 look like wonderful lenses. The professionals must be excited. Unfortunately, I am just an amateur. The cost and weight of these lenses alongside the bulk of a Z9 steers me away. I am currently holding a Z6ii, 24-120, 100-400 along with a D500, 500pf. Love the Z platform, but the cost and bulk of updating the D500,500pf combo is too steep. The A1, 200-600 is getting closer to the top of my list.

I had the 300mm 2.8 / with a 2x converter as my primary lens for wildlife photography. I have a bad back and walking around with it would kill me. I needed something lighter, and unfortunately the 500 f5.6 was the only option in my budget. Some day I hope to be able to afford one of those beauties you previewed.
