This is really sad and most likely to happen in the light novel. Even though it would be more of a cliffhanger. Someone is going to knock sense into Maomao to reveal her true feelings to Jinshi. Either it’s going to be Ah-duo or someone else.
And for Jinshi if he were to become emperor and let Maomao go, he wouldn’t sleep with the consorts. He may have consort but he’s not obligated to sleep with them. It’s his way of honoring Maomao. I can see him sneaking out of the palace to see her though.
But knowing the author’s family are JinMao shippers she may arrange for them to be married. Either secretly or it ends up Maomao does become Jinshi’s wife and empress and they are in a monogamous relationship. Yes she may be hated but Maomao wouldn’t care. Also many concubines would be too scared to mess with her. Also it will be known she’s Lakan’s daughter.
