It always comes back to this: "Who are you I should care what you think?" I'm very happy with my life, my channel, my collection, my minor contribution to this hobby. I'm also grateful folks like you and Random Rob and even Marc have seen my channel, my efforts, and complimented me on it. Grateful for the encouragement. TGV I got hit by a car when I was 17. I've had thirty knee operations, back surgery and Heart attack lived on braces and in a wheel chair for years worked my way out, went to watch school, bought repaired and sold watches for years. now I have no balance at all. I have developed patience and empathy over the years. I find Horology gives me a reason to live! and I greatly Appreciate your work.
The golden rule is called that for a reason: it's evergreen, and works for all interactions. Why would I want to dog someone down, especially on the internet? Just because I don't like watch X doesn't mean everyone else has to detest it. It helps to have my real face as my profile image to keep me honest. 😂
I think what I like best about this channel is how positive & passionate you are about the things you talk about, whether that be a jacket, a watch or almost anything you enjoy. This video is no exception and it’s good to see a positive come from a negative and a learning experience become a focus. My only negative comment towards your channel would be that I’d like to see less time between content, but I know you’d be saying it’s about quality not quantity! Keep on keeping on, I thoroughly enjoy your channel. On another subject, please tell Marc we’d like to see Islanders in the UK!
Super video sir. I genuinely stopped caring about what others think about me years ago. If you act honestly, kind and with integrity, if anyone has an issue with that, that's their problem, not yours. Keep on being you my friend, theres a reason you have so many genuine followers. Have a great weekend
Great video, as always. I have a rule to always take responsibility for the situation I'm in. I always say to myself, "it's your fault". How people react to me, or treat me, the situations I fund myself in and the environment I live. Saying it is my fault means to me, good or bad, I got myself here and only I can do something about it or feel the pride of being there.
As an older person (Generation X) I don't let things bother me, and I have said to you in the past TGV, it's your channel and don't worry about what others say, yes there are some deluded people out there on the internet who can't help themselves, but the best policy is to ignore them, chin up ol' man 👍
Opinions are like bellybuttons. If people want to share them in public, they should first ensure that they are not full of fluff. I have enjoyed your channel for years now. Haters just spew nonsense like a cornucopia of fermented excrement. Treat them with the indifference they deserve.
I once attended some training in leadership and the instructor said 'there's no such thing as constructive criticism, there's only criticism, and the only thing that matters is what you do with it." Great video as always sir.
I watched that live show with the group last week and I thought you were actually phenomenal. I’m extremely critical, but I thought you were eloquent and informed. Wild. People just love to put people down.
I would just like to say after watching this I feel compelled to comment. I watched the podcast with you on Casual Watch Review's channel and found you engaging , informed, intelligent, humorous, and humble. I agree with you that any criticism you receive says more about the person dishing out the bile than any informed criticism. I honestly do not understand people sometimes. Anyway keep up the good work and I look forward to your next recorded or live video.
Thank you so much! I am deeply deeply flattered. You have inspired m! I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Onwards upwards and best regards, see you in the next live show! TGV
Nothing like a T.G.V video on a Friday I have a sneaking suspicion that this was a very therapeutic video for you to make a long time coming in my opinion. This was a very aspirational video I for one miss the livestreams glad you are thinking about doing them again the Hugo bit very mafioso lol.
Great video, tgv. Thank you for putting it out there, and allow me to share this. They’re two types of people, sandpaper, and wood. Wood people are polished and smoothed because of their encounter with the sandpaper, meanwhile the sandpaper ends up rough, ragged, course and brittle“.
How about an overdose of positivity...You amaze me with your creative abilities, your confident yet yielding persona, your charisma, sentimentality, knowledge, humor, insight, expertise, and just being a good guy. You got me started my friend with the SNK809, which I adore to this day. I bought it new for $42 - with a discount of course, that many years ago. Press on and keep on truckin' my friend.
Good points. I had a channel of my own for a long time and loved my haters...even the repeat ones. Talk about making an anonymous career of drawing half baked conclusions with no facts. You are correct, never take it personally. I would always ask them to show me something from whatever it is they've created as an example for how I could do better. No response as always. Haters let you know you're on the right track.
Thank you TGV. I may come here for watch content, but I stayed because of all the other things you bring us in the background, not related to watches. Pure class. Cheers!
This is a video I really need to watch. I've stalled with my channel after some comments from the last video I posted, despite the help from you and your community.
Having re-watched this video, I just wanted to say that I really admire your resilience and ability to handle criticism and negativity, T. I tend to be pretty socially anxious and introverted, and just the thought of being a UA-camr makes me sweat, let alone the possibility of critics and haters. Having been part of the Gentry for many years now, I've unfortunately seen some of the crazy negativity hurled your way over the years, and having met you in person finally, albeit for just a couple of minutes, I can say that it's all unfounded. Keep on going, T.
I've only realized my fascination with watches over the past year. I am so grateful that I discovered your channel early in my journey. Your content has provided me with knowledge and understanding about the hobby that I certainly would not have otherwise acquired. You have my gratitude, respect, and best wishes. Thank you, TGV. Stay positive, my friend.
I actually just came across a reddit thread on this topic, and was pleasantly surprised. It was titled something along the lines of “why does TGV get so much hate?” I was expecting the replies to be filled with dissidents, but at least 80% of the responses were neutral to positive. Ranging from “he’s fine” to “i like his content” “he got me into watches” It gives me faith that haters really are just a minority. I’m a new fan of yours too, and I love your content!
I'm grateful to this channel. I love mechanical movements and discovered Orient who seem to market their watches in Brazil instead of Seiko. Thanks to the channel now own 2 really nice inexpensive and different watches. For every complaint there's probably 100 grateful viewers.
TGV how I interpreted what the commenter said about a watch that you didn’t fancy was something I took as a good thing because it opens your eyes more, but at the same time there are way to many watches for one to showcase, ones you like or not. Same with music it’s overwhelming and becomes less enjoyable. Things come to you naturally in life whatever hobby your into, which is how I live my life. A+ video
I am 58 years old, I found this channel years ago due to my love of watches. I have found his content a great learning experience and have broadened my knowledge of watches outside of the big brands. Do I agree with him 100%? No, but the knowledge I have received far outweigh the occasional disagreement. I have been on the internet before AOL, if I receive something negative it does not bother me as I have no idea who is writing the comment. I am old and wise enough to know a shrill and someone that enjoys horology. My last three watch purchases have all been due to his videos as well as his collaborations with Mark. Social media has created a secure wall for those who just have nothing constructive to say and I have little time for those types.
It's videos like this, as well as the generally introspective tone of your channel, that keep me coming back. I love that everything you said is applicable beyond the world of youtube and watches. A person should never stifle their passion merely because of the brickbats. Also, courteous discourse can come back if enough people will it. Excellent video, very well said. Also, I'm liking the two camera setup. It adds extra visual interest when used sparingly.
I found it difficult the first time one of my videos hit an algorithm, suddenly there was comments of a content I wasn't used to. What caught me off guard and made me angry at the time was the tone and aggression in some of the comments - that people wouldn't say to my face and have no idea about me. I called them out in my community tab, I think fairly as the comment is already public domain but it didn't really help the matter. I enjoyed your take on it as someone with vastly more experience, some excellent points. It's definitely not something I feel you're born with as a human to be naturally good at dealing with, I think it comes with time and constant learning.
Regardless of intent, malevolent as it may be, you have taken an opportunity to become more competent, more educated, more humble and as a consequence of the reality of karma, more complete. You are able to inspire even an old 70 something dude. Thanks TGV & yes, decency, integrity, diction, accomplishment, etc. all remain a thing in America even as we enter a very dark time indeed. Thank you Tristano
I totally hear what you are saying. Like you, I've been at the receiving end of a lot of negative behaviour. I think it's to your credit that you can turn the other cheek and have such a positive outlook. In some respects, I wish I could be like you. But I don't think I can.
David, you CAN do it. I know you can. You already have the courage to share this in a comment, that takes guts. You are already half way there. Thank you and I deeply respect your honest. Onwards, upwards ad best regards, TGV
I have been an avid follower of The Urban Gentry UA-cam channel since 2016, and I truly consider it the most enjoyable and insightful channel on the platform. TGV, your passion and charisma ignited my love for watches and inspired my appreciation for timeless, classy style. Just ignore the haters
i recall years ago a hater commenting on your drum roll when unboxing being a pet peeve, subsequent videos with extended drum rolls always made me chuckle 😂
These comment section trolls and haters would have benefitted from having a positive role model available to them during their formative years such as yourself, perhaps they would have learned a bit of respect if they were ever shown it. We appreciate you, T!
Your love for watches is infectious and informative! Keep being unabashedly yourself. These wonderfully researched and edited videos help me understand what I want/love/miss about watches and my daily beater (possibly one-and-done) wouldn’t have happened without you! Thank you TGV!
Great video TGV. Reminded me of some of the self improvement topics in your older lifestyle themed videos. Wrist watch check: duro with the gold toned bezel.
This is one of my favorite videos I've ever watched on youtube. First of all, Hugo was just hilarious! He really had me laughing out loud. Secondly you use the scene from Conan the Barbarian that my friends and I have been saying to each other for the last 40 years! And thirdly the subject matter and content was superb. I've always thought that you were a man of integrity in this video just proves it even more.
I never comment and don’t love or even like every video, I do like most of course, but I love TGV for just being there putting out his content. Kudos TGV. Keep on keeping on!
Fortunately I have many things that I like and can derive joy from, but nothing is as powerful to me as music. Be it the mysterious and slightly eerie soundtrack of "Interstellar", an emotional Italian opera like "Norma" or a quite simple and intimate singer/songwriter piece. Music always has the potential to change my mood and give me comfort or serve as a catalyst for permitting grieve and pain to reach some amount of catharsis. Thanks for another deep video.
Thomas Keller often says that chefs need to elevate the standards of their profession. I often think we need to elevate the standards of being a gentleman/lady in the modern world. Cheers TGV.
My son and I just watched this one. The fact that you inspire the next generation hopefully inspires you to keep doing what you're doing. The lessons you taught in this video are fundamental and life changing. My son's thoughts immediately after the video were "That was really good, wasn't even about watches this time and I learned a lot." May we all accept such happiness 😉. Be well, my friend. Onward and upward. Thank you, as always.
I'm a Trump supporter, you can imagine some of the hate we get. Online hate is just such a waste of time. I mean, what are they going to do, shoot you with their Internet gun? Totally with you on this one. Let the haters hate. You can't reason with them anyway, so don't try.
I am a democratic socialist. You right wingers historically have put us in death camps, starved us and thrown us out of helicopters just for being in a Union. Let's not talk about hate huh.
You're the reason I have all this wristwatch candy. Man, I have a lot of calories. You've inspired me, and I still believe you're the Ian Fleming of watches. I have found you to be pure entertainment. If you were not there, I don't know what I would do for an education in horology. Cheers to you my friend.
That growth mindset is why you were able to grow your channel to what it is. Excited to see you do more live shows! By the way, if people only wanted the experts knowledge they’d just read the watches manual. We like your videos because they are entertaining
My 50 years older friend Joe once said “he’s a non entity in my life.” Meaning he didn’t care what that person thought. He also said “eh, f**k ‘em if they can’t take a joke.” He was an Italian New Yorker who spoke four languages, knew history and art as well as some professors.
I joined the UK’s ‘The Watch Forum’ (formally RLT) in early 2007 and for me this community has literally saved my life. .. Question. Is there a book you’ve read over and over? I first read Clive Cussler ‘Raise the Titanic at the age of 13 in 1985. I’m reading it again for probably the 8th time, and it’s still as exciting now as it was all those years ago. And that my friend is what being a WIS (‘watch idiot savant’ as we say in within the community) is all about. The evolution never ends, nor does the enjoyment.
Unpopular opinion, my favorite content of yours is always casio because they're always fun and don't break the bank to get for the most part. They do have a luxury line that was exclusive to Japan for awhile
I found this presentation to be enlightening, informative and down to earth useful for me. I would say your monthly joint presentations with Marc from Long Island Watch are spontaneous and lively. Yes, you may edit them, but the base content is a lively repartee between you and Mark - entertaining and insightful.
Another great essay! I appreciate your eloquence and unabashed honesty. Thanks for your hard work and best regards as always. For me? No time for haters.
Thank you for this video. You have always seemed to be resilient. I remember onetime you said something that really annoyed me (don't remember what it is now - haha not important). I just finished the video and moved on. I didnt let it bother me and eagerly looked forward to your next video. I have probably been a TGV viewer for 4 or 5 years and have learned much and entertained much. With Respect, Paul D.
Believe it or not but you are the one who introduced me to stoicism a long long time ago. And Bruce Lee was my hero since I was a kid. But only recently I understood what those philosophies meant and it changed my life. So thanks man and stay cool.
I was looking at purchasing my first luxury watch, and your videos have been educational, inspiring, and and have taught me to appreciate these items as more than just simple time pieces. Keep up the great work 🙏🤘
All haters are tough guys when they can hide behind a keyboard. They’re never tough when they’re on the street. A gentleman will only criticize another in PRIVATE with the intention of helping that individual to reach their maximum potential. In short haters are cowards. They are to be pitied, not argued with or even recognized as anything other than bullies.
I had noticed the pinning awful comments thing. It’s a good move. Maybe go for live shows with other creators you like collaborating with. It’s a good way to ease into it.
TGV, You've been my "go to" watch content channel for 10 years and NOTHING will ever change that my friend. As you always say, Onwards and Upwards! Cheers! John
TGV is a real one. Everyone else is compromised - selling something, sponsored reviews, and so forth. Been with TGV since the old days (think Squale heritage), still with TGV now. Simple as.
“The best revenge is not to be like your enemy” -Marcus Aurelius. I have this hanging up in my office at work. And if you don’t think I won’t sign up for a Patreon where I watch Hugo use a vice to “deal with” trolls, you’re deeply mistaken. Onwards and upwards! 🦖
TGV, thank you for making this video! Love your channel and wish I was as talented as you at making content! As a new UA-cam content creator, I have had to deal with nasty comments myself and this is the reason I don’t talk in my videos.
I love your channel and love your philosophy on life. I live by something very similar. Oh and I love my Rangemaster 2 and my Rangemaster Mechanical. You truly are preserving what it means to be a gentleman.
Should I be hateful or inspiring. Always #2 for me even on the channels that I strongly disagree with the content or the underlying message. Loved the feeding the brain line same as everything you do in life. GIGO, garbage in garbage out. Keep it up TGV and hope all your health issues are in the past.
Thank you for all you do to provide the rest of our community valuable insight and analysis. Your videos are immensely helpful and appreciated. Have a wonderful weekend!
Dear TGV, Good on you for making this video, I appreciate the transparency. If you don't mind me asking, why have you never addressed the Venezianico brand? Cheers

Word has it, that the opposite of love is not hate, but indifference. Adjust accordingly.
You are too kind, thank you so much!
Best regards,
TGV
I would just like to say after watching this I feel compelled to comment. I watched the podcast with you on Casual Watch Review's channel and found you engaging , informed, intelligent, humorous, and humble. I agree with you that any criticism you receive says more about the person dishing out the bile than any informed criticism. I honestly do not understand people sometimes. Anyway keep up the good work and I look forward to your next recorded or live video.
Thank you so much! I am deeply deeply flattered. You have inspired m! I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Onwards upwards and best regards, see you in the next live show!
TGV
Simply the Best. Superb. A True Renaissance Man. Thank-you.
Every shill in the world calls anyone who calls them out a hater.
Yes 👍 and soon as you disagree. Your automatically a hater lol
Pure Class Topic;)! Have a great weekend ahead, Sir TGV!!!
Quite the Errol Flynn mustache you're cultivating.
Nice “Prank caller! Prank caller!” Pulp Fiction reference ❤
I actually just came across a reddit thread on this topic, and was pleasantly surprised.
It was titled something along the lines of “why does TGV get so much hate?”
I was expecting the replies to be filled with dissidents, but at least 80% of the responses were neutral to positive.
Ranging from “he’s fine” to “i like his content” “he got me into watches”
It gives me faith that haters really are just a minority.
Thanks for the great content. Any suggestions for where to get a Seiko 6139 serviced?
Haters hate those they envy. Great video fratello
Thank you for sharing this perspective and video. I really appreciate your insight and attitude. May we all remain ever curious.
Negativity is only harmful when is allowed affect you. Insults are like gifts you have to accept them in order to be yours.
What I appreciate here is your inner-processing shown live. That you're willing to learn and move on. Cheers!
You’ve made me a better man watching this channel and getting to know your lifestyle. Many thanks.
Onwards, upwards ad best regards,
TGV
Just got into watches with some cheaper seikos and this guy feels like the door man of the bohemian grove of rich watch enthusiasts.
Good on you for turning a negative comment into a positive. Onwards and upwards!
I always enjoyed these kind of topics on your channel. Great to see you bring it back. Greetings!
Hmmm, I thought your contribution to that Casual Watch Channel episode was very interesting and I appreciated the informal format.
Keep up the great work! When are we going to see your take on the Grimoldi Squale 1521?
"Cancel culture is like a medieval mob looking for someone to burn."
-Rowan Atkinson
Tristano, we all love you man! Whoever doesn’t like you doesn’t understand sh*t.
Keep up the great work 🙏🤘
Hugo capturing your hater had me 😂😂😂😂 Classic episode bro!!!
People hate success until they have it themselves.
I definitely could never diss Marc. He knows my address. Lol. Great video. You're an inspiration TGV.
I had noticed the pinning awful comments thing. It’s a good move. Maybe go for live shows with other creators you like collaborating with. It’s a good way to ease into it.
"When you have haters, you're doing something right".
TGV, You've been my "go to" watch content channel for 10 years and NOTHING will ever change that my friend. As you always say, Onwards and Upwards! Cheers! John
🙏🙏🙏 Mille grazie amico. O&U! Have a great weekend.
T.
Wise beyond your years , wise beyond your years
My evening just got better, thanks for another great video!
TGV, thank you for making this video! Love your channel and wish I was as talented as you at making content! As a new UA-cam content creator, I have had to deal with nasty comments myself and this is the reason I don’t talk in my videos.
TGV I hate you! You made me love watches and now I have a big beautiful collection that I love! Ugh 😩
Cheers
Bravo TGV, challenges built character!
