  • Social Finance and Social Economy Organisations have been around for a long-time. Together they have been able to improve education, better healthcare, reduce inequality, alleviate poverty, and much more! However, similar to green finance, social finance has struggled with many challenges. All of which that has prevented it from becoming mainstream.
Even with these challenges, social finance has managed to grow and remain relevant. Along with new emerging social financial tools, will we see social finance come to the forefront?

Very nice concept of finance that focus on financial problems like education, healthcare, poverty, food-security. Social Economy Organisations.
This concept is really needed for solving human financial problems.

Hey Prajeeth, Thank you for the series. Got a ton of new information from these videos and absolutely loved the way you conveyed all that. I am going to pursue my PhD in Sustainability Finance. Hope I can shed some light on this area and convince more people in believing in Sustainability Finance.

Could you please explain how the returns are sourced if a certain project becomes successful/achieves the desired outcomes? I'm assuming these causes are all not profit generating and the funding is entirely used in program delivery, monitoring and evaluation. So in that case, where will the social economy organisations get the funds to pay back to investors?

Hi Sanjana, thank you, we are super happy that you enjoyed our series and found it informative!
With regards to guidance, we are not the experts. However, having interacted with people who are experts in this field and researched about it, here are some recommendations. Explore these topics - ESG & Sustainable Investing, Corporate Finance & Impact Investing, Environmental Economics/Ecological Economics, Green Growth and Doughnut Economics. Stay up to date with UNEP FI & UN Global Compact news and GRI's Sustainable Finance guidelines.
If you want to do further digging around and read books, here are some recommendations - Doughnut Economics (Kate Raworth), From Uneconomic Growth to a Steady-State Economy, Principles of Sustainable Finance and Green & Sustainable Finance - Practice & Principles.

First of all, thank you for the informative video! Unfortunately, I can't find the McKinsey and GIIN reports mentioned in the video at 4:43. Would you be so kind and post the links to the reports? Either here under the comment or in the video description? That would help me a lot with my thesis on the topic of social finance! Many thanks in advance!
