I wanna thank you for this video. Recently I was at a horseback riding place where I loved the trainer but she wasn't teaching. I am 15 years old and I started riding about 10-11 months ago and I still can't lope. I started on an older horse who couldn't really trot for longer than a few minutes let alone lope. Once we switched horses the next one I was on was a rescue and spooked at a loud noise and I fell off as she sprinted away. I rode her again and fell off. This destroyed me. But I got on and never felt nervous during the trot, just the lope. We switched horses again and as I went to lope I must've pulled on the reins a little too hard because he started bucking. I don't remember much from the fall or even the drive home. Now we switched trainers and this new girl treats her horse extremely well and he is beautiful. I have a lesson tomorrow morning and quite frankly, I am terrified to even trot. I used to love trotting, but even thinking about it makes me feel cold and nervous. I just hope that someday I will lope like it is nothing and I won't get anxious the entire week before the lesson/ride 😭 I really appreciate this video.
I just started riding a month and a half ago after 30 years. I take lessons once a week and work in the stables once a week. I now am going to start leasing the horse I ride once a week just to practice. I ask questions and work on my basics. I am in no rush and I love feeling confident riding my horse with no pressure. Thank you for this. It was very helpful.
I think that before any student of horsemanship mounts up, as a prelude to riding classes, they should have classes on the philosophy of riding and the relationship of humans and horses. Developing respect for the power of horses and their intelligence is really important. They can be dangerous to us, through their own fears and aggression. Making sure that every riding experience is optimal for both horse and rider goes a long way to helping reactive riders stay in the moment.
Thank you for making these video's, At 58 years old I just purchased my first horse. She's very gentle, but I'm taking my time getting to know her before we start learning to ride.
I am definitely a reactive rider! I started 8 yrs ago at 34, hoping that riding (I have always loved horses) would teach me to stay grounded in the present moment. it worked OK until recently when I fell on tough times and my confidence on horses has suffered a lot. Thank you for the supportive advice, reminding us that we are not alone and to be patient with ourselves.
Love it! Its so common for riders to try to not admit their fears or nervousness because we judge ourselves so much and want to prove our worth by "riding the bucks" or the things that scares us most! But there's no reason to not discuss and share it with others! Because many riders experience this and nearly EVERY rider has felt it at some point or another! Thanks for sharing!
I had to get rid of my 2 horses last year because of total fear . I just got me new ones why older 21 she is very nice and calm I don’t even want to ride I still have to learn a lot she was a trail horse maybe I will ride her one day.I wished there would be someone that could help me but there is no one. 😌I am on my own
Thanks for this video! I love horses and riding but i am a big "what if" person and I have fear. This video was so helpful and next time when I'm riding I'm gonna think these tips!
Thank you so much for this video! I recently was thrown from a horse and fractured a vertebrae- today, I was finally able to get back on and jog my horse, but I was super anxious. Really appreciate these tips!
@@henrysmith180 Thank you so much! I spent this weekend working on my canter, and was really amazed that I didn't struggle with my anxiety as much! Things certainly do get better.
At the riding school, when following other horses in a line, we never get the chance to independently manoeuvre the horse ourselves, like stopping or starting to walk the horse on our own, speed up the horse & slow it down, move it sideways, move its hips etc. At the school, we don't have the flexibility or independence with the horse because there are so many other students, individual attention is out of question
I've never been over confident, but living with horses since 5yrs old years, I've never feared them. I've had 45yrs with them 24/7. I've been cautious around a couple, but not afraid of them.
thank you for putting this video out. I like it that you keep your information very brief & clear and that you talk in a calm & positive voice. It really helps riders like me who have strong anxiety level and suffer lots of confidence issues both in riding and life in general.
I just started in horse therapy. Your videos have helped me gain some confidence around the horse. I know nothing about them but aim to educate myself. Again, thank you very much. I am in the reactive stage out of fear. I do therapy tomorrow and will put your tips into practice. Thank you.

My horse always used to buck me because her saddle wasn’t fitted correctly (don’t worry she’s alright now) so I would constantly fall off and get scared, love the video 💕💕💕
I am quite new to your channel and absolutely love all your hints and tips. I don’t have my own horse but I am taking riding lessons. I do have anxiety at times when riding so this video is really helpful. Thanks 😊
This is so helpful. I'm starting back in a lesson format after four years off and I'm a little nervous about it. I've been watching your videos to familiarize myself with what I have learned over my equestrian career. Thanks for making these videos!
Thanks Joan. 11 lessons done. Am trotting alone without the help of a handler. Every ride is a minor improvement . Our horses are not as calm as yours . Your horses look so cool and composed.Sagelike.Our horses are a bit twitchy , fidgety. So that increases the anxiety a bit.
Great video! I'm so glad to have your videos through me learning to ride! I just started on December 1st 2020. So am I super new and your videos have been a big help, thank you.
Hi😊 I’m so glad you are enjoying the videos and finding them to be helpful💕 I hope you continue to have a wonderful time growing and learning in your riding 🐴
Thank you so much for this because I ride a very anxious horse and when I’m leading her to the groom pace she goes into other stalls and does stuff but I’m more confident to ride and like do stuff with her
Thank you for posting this. I am fairly new to horses. Mostly I have been learning how to groom them and do gentle groundwork and giving them some walking exercise. Just recently I finally got a ride a tall one - his withers are between eye and nose level on me. He's at the edge of what I can get on and off safely without a stool. Looking forward to working more with him :)
Yes extremely helpful - I’m definitely reactive not proactive so this has made me focus on the positive….just started my canter and need to be more confident
This video is probably going to be helpful to me because every time I'm on the horse I'm scared I'm going to fall off but I love horses my grandmother said she'll bring me horse back riding in the summertime btw your horse is so cute
Thank you for a video that is helpful as always :) My coach has been putting me on spooky horses lately, insisting that I must overpower the horse mentally and establish my authority as a rider rather than back down when the horse is uncooperative (especially when they try to throw me off). It has been extremely challenging for me, and I have yet to overcome my fear of being thrown off a horse that weighs 20 times as much as I do. Would you be so kind as to make a video on how to fall off a horse?
I got a really bad confidence knock a few months back (around march/april) and I don’t really know why. I got it back super well and I was such a confident rider, but yesterday I went up for a lesson and I got super nervous so we had to change the lesson to tomorrow ( Sunday ) I don’t know why I felt so anxious but this really helped!! ❤❤
This is very helpful to keep in mind, thank you! :) I am an adult beginner rider, and have been doing mainly trail rides, and solo trail rides for the past year. I have experienced several times over the past few months that the horse that I ride (which is a loan horse at a riding school) has spooked and run off. Twice in the last few weeks he has bolted and run home, and both times I fell off due to not managing to ride at a gallop. Now I have very low confidence, and find myself being anxious and nervous when out on a ride, worried that any moment he`s going to take off and run. I know I need to work on myself so I can be the rider that he needs - and I have a long way to go! ;)
I'm amazed some are scared. Being with horses since 5yrs old years old, 24/7. Ive always thought of horses as friends. My love overcame other thoughts. I've never felt fear. As I foxhunt I've had a few bad falls. Maybe loving them more than myself,& growing up with them, plus trained by professionals, fear was strange to me.
Thank you very much for your video. I struggle with fear for over year, I feel good at walk and trot, but the moment my trainer tells me to canter, I freeze and horse doesn't canter at all, get frustrated with me and anxious and I get more afraid because just the canter transition take me ten minutes to do, then I'm so tense I'm just holding on I don't use my musles properly to balance. I hate cantering, but I really want to do it, but I get cold feet every time. I feel useless, nobody else around me is afraid, everybody act like they were never afraid to ride in their life. I have inner ear disorder and problems with balance and I'm just so afraid I'll lose my balance and fell - which happened before. I'm tired of being afraid and it's just worse every time I try to canter.
@@agataleonard It's better! I can relax more and follow movement, but I realized my anxiety is also a problem of the stable enviroment and my trainer not being understanding and making me feel like idiot. I'm trying to find better trainer and horse for half-lease, I want to ride more and learn more with good trainer and build solid foundation.
@@Ms.Enide0 good plan. Changing surroundings will help. Also a trainer who has a good knowledge of creating a growth mindset is an absolute must. Anxiety is really last thing to have getting up on the horse.
I had a lesson last night where I was on a horse (that I’m planning on leasing, OTTB) that I had fallen off of and sprained my neck because something spooked her. I was pretty scared to get on her and I was tensed the whole time, sending her mixed signals on speed and I had incorrect balance because of that stiffness. I wanted to try and canter her again and it was fine at first, but I forgot to make a turn to cut the arena in half to avoid a different spot that she was spooky in, so I turned where there was cross polls and she jumped over the white block on the sides of them and started almost galloping after it (which I think is because I started getting scared and I was out of the saddle so the canter would be easier, again she is a retired race horse) and I started to loose a lot of my balance. I stopped her and didn’t fall off, but that really startled me. I realize that I shouldn’t have cantered if I was a little worried and I realize my mistakes, I just want to gain my confidence again.
I had a pretty nasty fall 3 weeks ago and got a lot of my right ribs severely bruised including some broken ones. At the moment I couldn’t breathe and seeing my mom panicking and not being able to tell her that I was fine was killing me. I am turning 20 in a few months and I have 14 years of riding in my belt but at 14 I suffered a severe and rare type of pneumonia and was internalized and doing physiotherapy for a entire year. At the time I was told to quit horseback riding and focus on my healing still I had my Quimera (my late horse) that I rode without the intensity of a proper training. On September last year I was given an all clear by my doctors and started my lessons on the same school I had attended for years. Ironically I started riding as a therapy due to a couple of mental problems associated with anxiety disorder at 6 years old and I quickly realized that I was good at it so that is why I ride. When I restarted I wasn’t afraid at all and fell when the horse was bitten by a spider. No damage was done there and I continued my training. But this fall on gallop and probably because I fell agist a wall was a lot scarier and even though I continued the horse could sense my fear and would test me increasing my anxiety. I haven’t been able to ride ever since first because of the physical damage and after because of my anxiety. I’m still trying to figure out what to do but one thing is for sure that’s that I’m terrified and don’t know what to do. Maybe I should start by just hanging out with the horses and see it from there.
Hi, Thank you for sharing your story❤️ My heart goes out to you and all you have been through. I think just hanging out with horses can be very therapeutic. There is so much you can do on the ground to build your confidence and a strong relationship with your horses. I have found when working with students struggling with fear, starting on the ground is often the best approach. One thing I have found to be a help to some of my students is to make a Schedule with small achievable goals. An example would be: Week one's goal -getting comfortable taking my horse out of the stall and brushing them for 15 minutes. Week 2’s goal -- Feel confident taking my horse for a short walk in the area. These small goals can be whatever you decide. They can range from go visit my horse and pet him to go saddle my horse and then unsaddle him without riding. Each time you reach a goal you can check it of your list and set a new one. Doing this can help to build a feeling of accomplishment and increase confidence.
@@JSHorsemanship thank you so much for the recommendations. I actually have my class scheduled for today. I want to start working on being the same rider I was a couple of months ago. ❤️❤️❤️
This video was super helpful. Im a super new adult rider and have had two lessons. The beginning of the ride always feels a little scary and I’m comfortable by the end of my lesson. I’m curious if you can speak to your experience as a trainer and traditional course of learning, how many times per week do you recommend for beginning riders, what basics should be mastered before advancing and how long does it typically take. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video now I’m not scared of my fathers big 3 horses that are really huge, I keep thinking they’ll bite my hand when I put my hand near there mouth when I pet them😁😂
Can you make a video on tips to keep horse still at the mounting block? My horse likes to start backing up every time I go to get on . I can flex him and get on, but I would like to be able to get on easily without having to flex. Thanks!
This is very helpful, i used to love riding horses but a few years ago we were riding along side the fence and a car went speeding 50 on a 25 mile road and my horse took off before I could get control or correctly position myself and I fell and the horse accidentally kicked my rib. I ended up breaking my rib and have been fearful to get in the saddle since.
hi this video is so great as i have had a break from riding for a few years. also could you give tips on how to keep your horse to the outside of the school. as my horse always cuts half the school off in the canter.
I am 10 and I am really scared to let go of the saddle in a canter but I can trot without the saddle strap.and I always focus on the horses ears and if their a happy, sad ,angry ,or scared.and before I get on the horse I always feel nervous. ❤️ great vid and I really appreciate if you could give me some tips and reply ❤ not to be rude ❤️❤️❤️❤️😅
I’m sad because I want to canter and jump but I’m just too scared to do it, if i don’t think about the past and the future i immediately think that I’ll fall and other bad things would happen. I haven’t watched the full video but i hope it will help. I’ve been riding for a year and 2 months, i can jump up to 60cm and canter but i recently just stopped because I’m really scared and don’t know what to do.
THANK U IT WAS HELPFUL. I NOT ONLY RODE A BUCKING BRONCO BUT THE REARING AS WELL WAS FRIGHTFUL. THEN FOUND OUT THE SADDLE WAS PINCHING HIM & HE HAD A POINTY TOOTH. I AM GETTING A SADDLE MADE & HAD HIS TEETH FLOATED & CHANGED BITS. HE NOW OPENS HIS MOUTH FOR THE COPPER BIT ENJOY THE TASTE :-) NOW TO FIND MY CONFIDENCE AGAIN IS BIG. ALSO, I STARTED DEEP BREATHING AS WELL. ALL OF WHAT U TAUGHT IT WHAT IS PLAYING OUT IN MY LIFE RIGHT NOW. THANK U AGAIN. I WILL BE WATCHING MORE VDO'S...SO GLAD I FOUND YOUR VDO TO HELP INCREASE MY CONFIDENCE.
Im riding only an hour per week and everytime i feel like I get worse. I’ve been riding for years but ever since I have to actually do something myself and not let the horse do it (I know, bad) I just can’t do anything. I’m paralyzed n in fear at the thought of jumping when I wasn’t before, I’m terrible at making my horse relaxed and engaged in the lesson and I’m awful at basically everything when I wasn’t before. I am extremely discouraged and considering quitting because I don’t want to hurt horses with my bad riding. horses are my life and what is happening is the biggest pain for me… this video is rlly nice but for some reason I can’t understand what’s wrong with me
sadly, when i was 11 i was riding with a trainer that would put me in a group of 7 people and horses, us ,not experience ,we couldn't keep our horses apart, there was biting and kicking and a lots of crying, it made me afraid of any horses that would ride with me on my lessons, the fear was eventually too much for me,, to handle, its sad cuz it was something i was really happy to do.
So I've been riding for 4 years, I've always been very nervous, and about 6 months ago I had a fall that i got a concussion from. I haven't been able to ride confidently since then. It hurts me as I feel so bad for my horse, and my parents are always pushing me. Even seeing other people ride makes me cry. I just don't know what to do as I love my horse, but I'm too scared to ride. I don't know what to do anymore.
Why are your parents pushing you? That's very strange. You don't have to ride if you dont feel comfortable. You should not, not until you want it, enjoy it and feel comfortable. Don't let your parents tell you what you must do. No matter how young you are. You don't have to ride horses. It's not something to prove yourself with. It's supposed to be something you enjoy. And if you don't, if you have any fear, that means you should not do it at all. Don't think of it as some kind of accomplishment or test of character, that's very silly and potentially dangerous. Tell your parents what you want to do, don't let them tell you what you should do, at least not about riding horses. As parents they're only allowed to tell you to do your homework or be kind to people, they're not supposed to dictate your hobbies. Just because they paid for a horse doesn't mean they get to push you to ride it against your own instincts. Follow your own instincts.
Thank you for this video. I notice when I go to ride I'm confident and okay for the first 10-20 minutes but then if I notice my horse getting ansy under me or flattening his ears I start thinking he wants to stop so then I get nervous and get off. It's like he's saying "Okay, enough, I'm done, get off my back now" or "I want a treat before I do anymore" that kind of thing and I lose all confidence at that point and just end up putting him up. How do I get over this and not think this way. It's as though he knows I'm scared of him and so he takes control of how long we ride. What do I do to change this in me? Thanks for any help!
I have a really stressed horse,I fall very often from him and I kind of have a trauma,he bucks a lot and i get so mentally and phisicly blocked that I fall.
I've had 4 falls on my loan horse and 2/4 times Ive fallen of have ended in me in the hospital, even walking down the lanes makes me freak out, I'm so scared that she's going to spook
I’m traumatised from riding horses and my grand parent forces me to do it and says it’s “overcoming fear” and he is a tough man and he will not take no for a answer and I’m scared shitless
I wish you’re my trainer … my current trainer doesn’t get me nor makes me feel comfortable around the horse if anything he makes me more intense and nervous and frustrated.
Feel free to leave questions or if you have a future video idea :)

Could you please do a video on how to care for a horse and how to convince your parents to let you loan a pony :) thanks, great video
Mostly my own thoughts here. Which is great, because it means i have decent observing skills and can trust intuition, so thanks for this video! :)
Great video! I'm so glad to have your videos through me learning to ride! I just started on December 1st 2020. So am I super new and your videos have been a big help, thank you.
Hi😊
I’m so glad you are enjoying the videos and finding them to be helpful💕 I hope you continue to have a wonderful time growing and learning in your riding 🐴
Thank you so much for this because I ride a very anxious horse and when I’m leading her to the groom pace she goes into other stalls and does stuff but I’m more confident to ride and like do stuff with her
very helpful tips.. thanks dear ☺
Thank you so much for the video!!! I hope it works (I’m going to lessons in hours)
Excellent advice!
Yes extremely helpful - I’m definitely reactive not proactive so this has made me focus on the positive….just started my canter and need to be more confident
I've always loved horses
Thank you. Very helpful!
I love this channel! the videos are so informative and help experienced riders aswell as beginners! 💖
❤ thank you 😊
Yes helpful. Thank you
This is very helpful to keep in mind, thank you! :)
I am an adult beginner rider, and have been doing mainly trail rides, and solo trail rides for the past year. I know I need to work on myself so I can be the rider that he needs - and I have a long way to go! ;)
Hi😊
Thanks for sharing💕 I’m so glad you found the video to be helpful🐴 I wish you all the best as you continue to learn and build your confidence🐎❤️

Thank you.
Great video, thanks!
Beautiful video is an informative video
thank you so much for this! Very useful!
Nice explanation... thank you...
Thank you
Beautiful video
Your horses are very pretty 😍 what is the one you were on first, what is that colour called
The white horse behind the fence is so funny he’s like. “Hey, I like that lady over here❤”
Great video!!! Thank you. ❤️❤️❤️ every time when I fell fear or nervous I sing a Native American song that keep me in peace!! ☀️🙏🏽
Thank you for video
Thank you
Thank you very much for your video.
Hi Enid just out of curiosity did you sort out your problem with canter?
First and second time I was in fear but yesterday I rode third time and the fear gone With your helpfull videos
An example would be:
Week one's goal -getting comfortable taking my horse out of the stall and brushing them for 15 minutes.
Thanks!
Hi😊
I did a video on teaching a horse to standstill at the mounting block:) you can check it out here👉ua-cam.com/video/x9FIhtp0LQg/v-deo.html
Great video.. Greetings from Denmark.
Only self confidence is enough we can do miracles my self learned in 15days horse riding
Super Video
I love your videos :))))
Same
I’m so glad your enjoying them 😊🐴💕
hi this video is so great as i have had a break from riding for a few years. also could you give tips on how to keep your horse to the outside of the school. as my horse always cuts half the school off in the canter.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video 😊
How to keep your horse from falling in is a great video idea I will add it to my list🐴
Thank u js for replying what is the name of your stable and where is it. When I will come in that area I will contact you
I am 10 and I am really scared to let go of the saddle in a canter but I can trot without the saddle strap.and I always focus on the horses ears and if their a happy, sad ,angry ,or scared.and before I get on the horse I always feel nervous.
I am extremely discouraged and considering quitting because I don’t want to hurt horses with my bad riding. horses are my life and what is happening is the biggest pain for me… this video is rlly nice but for some reason I can’t understand what’s wrong with me
Nice
Can you do a videos about how to take care a pregnent horse and baby horse
sadly, when i was 11 i was riding with a trainer that would put me in a group of 7 people and horses, us ,not experience ,we couldn't keep our horses apart, there was biting and kicking and a lots of crying, it made me afraid of any horses that would ride with me on my lessons, the fear was eventually too much for me,, to handle, its sad cuz it was something i was really happy to do.
Thanks for any help!
ok
I have a really stressed horse,I fall very often from him and I kind of have a trauma,he bucks a lot and i get so mentally and phisicly blocked that I fall.
I've had 4 falls on my loan horse and 2/4 times Ive fallen of have ended in me in the hospital, even walking down the lanes makes me freak out, I'm so scared that she's going to spook
i hv a fear about the horse being not in myh control and does something which makes me fall
I wanted to thank you, but I’m still scared. I have been riding horses for five years.
Hello I Am From India after coming of Ertugrul Ghazi series I focused on horse riding
I have a rather big fear of rotational falls
♥️
I Love You❤️ And I Want To Visit And Meet😀You Thanks For Helping Us 👍🏻
