How to Load Paper into a Perkins Brailler

- Are you curious about how to load paper into a Perkins Brailler? I walk you through the steps on how to load and unload paper into a braillewriter.
How to load the paper:
1. Sit at a table and remove the cover from the Perkins Brailler (if necessary).
2. Put the brailler on the table so that the keys are facing you.
3. Slide the carriage lever to the left.
4. Flip the paper release towards you.
5. Turn the paper turn knobs away from you until they won’t turn any more.
6. Load paper into the brailler by placing the paper on the flat ledge that is under the embosser head.
7. Then slide the paper all the way to the left. (Max paper width is 11.5”.)
8. To lock the paper in place, flip the paper release away from you.
9. Turn the paper turn knobs towards you and go until they stop turning.
10. Push the line spacer key once to set the paper in place.
11. To set the left margin, on the backside of the machine, pinch the far left rounded knob and the flat piece and slide all the way to the left.
12. Then hit the spacebar until the embosser head/carriage lever is where you want the right margin to end. Pinch and slide the right rounded kob and flat piece to the left until it won’t go any further.
13. You can now start brailling.
How to unload the paper:
1. To remove the paper from the brailler, turn the paper feed knobs away from yourself until the knobs don't turn anymore.
2. Then flip the paper release towards you to unlock the paper.
3. Then you can remove the paper out of the brailler.

At 1.40 my machine doesn't stop the paper at the end of the sheet ...but the rest of machine is ok . It would be a problem ? It doesn't seem so important but don't know maybe a piece is broken inside .
I also love perkins brailler very much!

Can i use rigid sheet film for braille? As a substitute for paper?
I haven’t tried it, so I’m not sure. I have brailled milk jugs and the dots hold up great! If you try it, do you mind letting me know how it goes?

A Perkins Brailler costs about $900 new. But I regularly see used Perkins on eBay for around $300.
