So a lot of people have been buying slingshots of my website (linked below) so I thought I would put together a series of slingshot shooting Lessons. There is already a lot of stuff out there on how to shoot a slingshot but for the most part, it's confusing and contradictory information from video to video. So this will be as comprehensive a series as I can make it, taking you through all you need to know about shooting the slingshot. Lesson 1 I will cover the shooting range and slingshot targets. I will get into how to shoot a slingshot with pinpoint accuracy and rigging the slingshot in future videos. I learned how to shoot a slingshot by watching Bill Hayes and the man is good and can light a match at distances of 33 feet constantly. But I wanted to start out with the shooting range for Lesson 1 because it is in my thinking for beginners the quickest way to ruin your shooting experience if done wrong.

Brother, you are the man. I think a slingshot is one of the finest, most underrated survival tools ever. Now, if I could only shoot one worth a crap, LOL.
Its all about a good slingshot for the first mont of my slingshot shooting experenc i was shooting a slingshot with tubes on it and couldnt hit the brood side of a barn. then i watched bill Hayes on youtube and built one like his with flat bands. I picked it up quick once i had the right gear.

Wait!!! I had no idea that you have a UA-cam channel!!! The irony is that I saw your love for slingshots on Alone, and was inspired by it so much that I bought my very first slingshot. I am 46 years old, I have just started shooting slingshot again after about 35 years, with the price of rifle ammo going up I took this up again !! It, to me, is almost as satisfying as pulling a trigger !!

Will a slingshot kill a hare/rabbit, what kind of rig do you need? Where you do need to aim (head/vitals)?
+The Wooded Beardsman the scout can do it if its not cold with half inch steel right in the head and if close the side would do it with biger like 3/4 steel
Are you selling bands too? Would you need to double up at all?
i have bands and double band sets for sale on the website. Singal bands work grate with half inch and smaller and double for bigger stuff.

Love that target box, Fowler! Great lesson, however, I think you forgot to wear safety glasses...safety first, sir. I bought an Axiom Champ off your site and, brother, I love it! So much more ergonomic than my Daisy models which are being retired to a box in the attic. I want to buy another model, the Scout, which can accommodate the surgical tubes as well as the flat bands. The Scout and a Bug Out Bottle will go into my Bug Out Bag. Thanks for turning me onto Simple Shot!

LoL Old empty ones i put there just to make fun of my self :)
An empty tank can still blow up it's still got some gas in it even though it seems like there's not unless you've had it open for about a year it can still blow up

I get another look at the barn, typical early 1900's balloon frame with the 6x top plate, all sawn, it also looks like a tie beam was clipped out to make for the upper floor as an after thought. Watch out for slow drift from rafter spread, it happens but takes years. Also a little sag in the plate, check the foundation.
How about a sloped trench with a hole and a can for catching shot? Or a magnet to collect, electric flip the switch to activate and flip again to release the shot when collecting. I like the hole and the can better though.
I have a magnet on a stick for the ones that end up on the floor and i was thinking of making a hole with a track that would sort the different size shots into different bins.
Ya the barn needs some work i'm going to take out that upper floor the rest of the way and put in cables to prevent it from spreading. Then i have to jack up the middel of the floor and the list goes on .....

Zach, I’ve been watching your videos over the last couple days as I have order a simpleshot axiom ocularis. This is my first sling shot so I’ve been wanting to learn different techniques. The one thing I have not seen yet is a discussion about eye dominance. I am right hand but left eye dominate. Wouldn’t be better to shoot left handed or right handed in this situation?

I just got my new scout XT yesterday. I noticed right away the bands seem really soft. The package said for "all around use" vs intermediate vs advanced. Just by feel from a few shots last nite what bands do you recommend for more power for that slingshot. I just want a bit more resistance, or should I just shorten the bands? thanks in advance.

great set up and advice. Not many people really dive into the safety aspects of something like a slimgshot. they see it as a toy and pay the price when one comes flying back. what's the biggest game you've taken with one?
The rabbits are the toughest you have to be very accurate and get them in the head for the most part.

I should’ve watched this before slinging, I kinda just found my way, I hold the sling shot sideways and twist the pouch so it is flat against my cheek. After two weeks of training every day I started to hit my targets constantly
What is the best way to keep bands in storage? Does it help to put baby powder on them when you are keeping them in storage?

What size steel ammo would you recommend for waterfowl? Headshots I assume?

What size ammo are you using in the video? Was wondering if I should use 3/8 or 7/16. I just purchased the Scout LT
As I'm sure you know by now it all depends on your bandset as to what ammo will have the best performance. I love my scout I got 10 + Years ago. It's my favorite of the three simple shot slingshots I own. Most guys target practice with the 3/8ths 55 grain weight, but 7/16 at 87 grain weight is much better for hunting at a decent speed. Those 2 sizes are probably my favorite, but I make my own bands, and shoot 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16, and the 130 grain 1/2 inch steel which I feel is the best for hunting if you can get it above 200 fps. It easily carries the most energy that or my 144 grain .457 cal lead. About 12 foot lbs of energy. 11mm ,or 7/16 at 87 grains may be better only because it's moving faster for less time for animal to react if interested in hunting. Band length ,width, band thickness, and tapers will all determine best ammo for a given band set up.
You should make a pipe going from the bottom of the box to the candy dispenser with all your ammo

I have a slingshot with cross hairs and a level. There are 5 little circles, I'll assume these are some type of measurement for aiming. It also came with some type of colored filament which I guess weaves in and out the holes. Can someone explain the purpose of the colored filament?

Yep! I use rocks a lot, usually the size of a marble or smaller, and preferably spherical

Before you start shooting everyday, if your slingshot has a wrist brace, check if its secure, just yesterday my brace broke and my slingshot flew into my face tearing a small hole that needed stitches, easily could have lost an eye, stay safe.

I know they're illegal in some places but do you ever use wrist supported sling shots? I grew up with "wrist rockets" and I notice they're not very popular among sling shotters.
Its just not that important to support the wrist. With flat tapered bands you can achieve higher speeds than those old wrist rockets ever had. Flat bandsWith their greater amount of elasticity Are so much more accurate,It really makes a huge difference
