    Thanks for this - really useful and saved a lot of backwards and forwards repetitive listening to the track to work out the parts.

      No problem Perry. Glad it helped. What other SKA tunes are you learning?

      One Step Beyond, The Prince, Madness, Baggy Trousers. Would also like to try Monkey Man and House of Fun if I can find the backing tracks.

    It's written & recorded in the scale of C. So the intro is C,E,G,C#,B♭. C,E,G,C# (x2)
    Well, that's how it's played on the piano anyway. Ps what about the huge fog horn PAAARRRRRRRRRRP right at the beginning?! That's the best bit!!! :o)

      +Dan Fossard : on the original recording, the fog horn is the "low Bb" played on a baritone sax, he can't reach that on a tenor.. ;-)

      No it's definitely a "C". Unless the baritone sax in question is 2 semi-tones out. Still the greatest song ever written in my humble opinion.

      +Dan Fossard : yes and no! ;-) The original first tone is slightly out of tune, between the C and C# but you're right, it's clearly more a C. So it's rather the "low A" than the "low Bb" of the barisax (the sax is a transposing instrument). :-)
      Anyway in both case impossible to reach on a tenor sax. And yes indeed one of the greatest song!

      You are right that the tune is in the key of C. But the tenor sax is in B flat, meaning that when you play a "C", it sounds as a B flat: so, to get a concert pitch C, you play a note called, on the tenor sax, "D".

    • @Caff68
      @Caff68 7 років тому

      A "C" on the baritone sax sounds as a concert pitch E flat, doesn't it? Like on an alto (but an octave lower)?
      So, to get a concert pitch C, you would need to play the note called "A"?
      I struggle with the alto/baritone transposition much more than I do with the tenor/soprano one :-D
