They did the occasional "fat Ethel" joke on "I Love Lucy" and the hour long shows, but there wasn't that much of a difference between her weight and Lucy's.
The part about Lucy's final moment with Desi at the hospital.. and then at the funeral.... that really got me :'( I'm glad it didn't end with anger and regret... but in love and mutual respect, between these two.
@@mattr3250 that is true, in my culture and also my own morals, that is true also. I don’t know how Lucy lasted 20 years in that marriage, it was very toxic at times…. I know Lucy was hurt so very badly by Desi…. Over and over and over again, until she simply couldn’t take the hurt any more, she wanted to be totally alone after because it was so painful she said (of course it turned out differently) ….. When she submitted her papers for the divorce, the reason she listed was “it’s been a total nightmare” 💔😢 …….. BUT, we have to understand also that it was Desi’s culture. (Not making excuses for him as he was also a heavy drinker/alcoholic, I think drinking in excess was his main problem, infidelity a close second ) …. But He literally came from a culture where it was normal for men of wealthy families to have a mistress (or many of them) …. This mistress often had many children with these wealthy men, they would have a “big house” for the wife and kids, called “Casa Grande” and the “Little house” was called “Casita”….. it was for the mistress and her kids… If you are interested in all things Lucy and Desi…. Check out the podcast called “The Plot Thickens” by TCM…… it’s SO GOOD!! I thought I knew everything about Lucy and Desi but I’ve learned SO MUCH from this podcast!! (I sound like an infomercial, I don’t mean too hahaha 😂😂) Anyways….I’ve listened to the entire series, start to finish ( several times) because I enjoyed it so much!! It talks all about their story from start to finish…. It talks a lot about the Cuban culture and how he came from extreme wealth (his mother was heir to the Bacardi Rum Company) …….before they were thrown out of Cuba…. He came to the USA with nothing but the shirt on his back, with his dad… Also in his culture, wealthy boys as young as 15/16 were often taken to brothels to lose their virginity…. It was normal to them and typically it was the uncle that would take the boys (that’s what happened with Desi)…. So for the rest of his life… he went to brothels, as though it were normal….he would say to Lucy in fact “they’re just prostitutes Lucy, it means nothing”…..(makes me so sad for Lucy even writing that myself 😢💔) I always get sad when I think of Desi and Lucy. They never truly got over each other (many of their friends have said this also) and several of their friends have said that Lucy never really was in Love with Gary, her second husband…. He made her laugh and gave her the security/stability that she craved …. But it wasn’t the level of love she ever had for Desi…. My own father was a terrible alcoholic…. And also an all around terrible person altogether and a horrible father….. Desi wasn’t like that… he had his demons for sure….but when he was with his kids, he was really present with them, he played with them and cooked with them… etc… (even as adults) but at heart (as confirmed by many) he wasn’t a bad person. I think he was a victim of what he had been through as a young adult…and in a way…. A victim of his culture too….and of course a victim of his disease, Alcoholism. But I really feel deep inside, Desi was an amazingly talented person with a kind and generous heart. Very sad 💔💔💔😢

When I moved into a "Seniors Only" building (you must be 62 or older to live here), ten years ago, we had a lively discussion in our Commons Room about "I Love Lucy," which we'd all seen "First Run," back in the day. Lucy stomping grapes with an Italian woman, getting drunk on a "Vitameatavegimin" commercial, and the chocolate factory are true comedy classics. BTW, here's an odd fact: big city water departments all over the country had trouble with a huge pressure drop while "I Love Lucy" was on-----because everybody had to wait until commercials to make a break for the bathroom! All those toilets flushing at once drove water departments _NUTS!_ (There were only three commercials on half-hour programs in those days: at the beginning, middle, and end and most shows had only one sponsor, Like Old Gold cigarettes on Lucy's show.) Stay safe, everyone.
During lockdown I have started to watch Lucy, it brings back such fond childhood.memories. What a beautiful, talented and hilariously funny lady. The episode where Lucy is going to the hospital os priceless and ageless. It’s a pity the females that Desi would take up with didn’t tell him to wise up and go home to his precious wife.
I never believed Lucy wanted Vivian to be frumpy because she didn't want Vivian to be prettier than her. Lucy was not vain I think she was worried about Desi's habit of hitting on other women. Barbara Eden said she had to hide from him when she guest stared on I Love Lucy cause really trying to get with her.
Everyone on that show was a icon of there time. They where also way before there time. There was no such thing as interracial cupules on TV back then and they would be the only one for a while to. Im 29 and even I know the impact they had.
I have alot of respect for all 4 of them and even the other actors that guest starred. So much talent and inspirational people from that era. Their work will live forever. It's unfortunate that those events took place behind the cameras.
That is taken out of context. There were kind words said following. Vance toasted and paid tribute to Frawley. They always edit out the good parts of what people say to create more sensationalism to their readers. Negativity and shock sell.
It is sad, though. Her husband was a cheating addict, they suffered several miscarriages, Fred was a grumpy alcoholic, Vivian didn't get along with him either and celebrated his death by saying, "champagne for everyone", and it goes on to discuss how each cast member met their death.

I still enjoy watching the reruns of I Love Lucy or here’s Lucy or the Lucille Ball show. I listen to the radio program that they reference in here. SIRIUSXM plays it on their radio classic Channel. We should check it out it is definitely worth a listen. Her son will go on to have a short-lived television series of his own. It was called automan.. It was not good LOL I don’t know what her daughter end up doing. But it’s clear that they did not fall and they’re famous parents footsteps.
Lucy’s grandfather was sued by parents of a boy who was shot by him or a child he was showing a gun to. Anyways he lost the home in the lawsuit and Lucy, her brother, mom and grandparents had to leave the house. I read this in her bio
Lucie actually was born when they first began working on the show. In fact, Lucille Ball was pretty far along in her pregnancy with Lucie when the pilot episode was filmed.

Too many people would’ve held grudges and nursed her feelings for decades. Many would have died still doing that. I’m glad that the two of them or at peace when he passed. She was truly a one-of-a-kind lady. She was a rare talent that you don’t see anymore in movies or television. The world is a much darker place after she passed.
I love how Fred wore suits all the time
Lucy’s grandfather was sued by parents of a boy who was shot by him or a child he was showing a gun to. Anyways he lost the home in the lawsuit and Lucy, her brother, mom and grandparents had to leave the house. I read this in her bio
I saw the movie Lucy calls the president that was very good I saw it on Tubi TV
Such a classy lady.
7O years young this year!
The woman they show is not Ruta Lee
That was not Ruta Lee.
There are too many obvious errors in this to believe any of it. Lucie was born just as the show was starting, etc.
Lucie actually was born when they first began working on the show. In fact, Lucille Ball was pretty far along in her pregnancy with Lucie when the pilot episode was filmed.
Poor Lucy…it’s not easy being married to a Cheater!
It went on for 20 years.
Oh no!
lies
Uh.....fyi, that was not Rita Lee.
Spellchecker will not spell Ruta
