    I'm not into Karate, did boxing and may thai but I do use a few karate moves when sparring and they are effective.
    The footwork is also impressive and effective for a farther than the pocket of boxing's distance

    I’m a long time TKD teacher and practitioner. Routines like these are excellent for intermediate and advanced practitioners. Beginners probably need to focus on good technique more. Your technique is solid.

    Thank you for this video, John, this will be a nice addition to my routine. I like your explanations, very clear instruction, and your suggestion for chambering kicks is something I will most likely be doing, as I have a side / flank injury I'm working through.
    I have a question regarding the first movement. With the kicking movements, you make sure to switch sides to be able to throw kicks with each leg. Do you do this with the jab / punching moves? My very first instructor when I was 18 made sure we practiced all of our movements from both sides, including punching. I have been doing this ever since, even when I was in boxing classes, as the instructors there only concentrated on if you were left or right-handed, to throw from that stance.
    Have a great weekend,
    Marc

    • @jkgardiner
      @jkgardiner  9 місяців тому

      Yes definitely do both sides, you could either do left side in one round and right in the next or do 3 reps on left - change stance - 3 on right for example.
      Let me know how it goes 👍

    • @marcd1981
      @marcd1981 9 місяців тому

      @@jkgardinerHi John, I did the workout starting with 30 seconds work, 30 seconds rest. I also switched back and forth with the left and right lead hands for the jab / straight punch movement.
      Right now, not going full out yet, I used it at the beginning of my strength training workout for a good warm-up. Eventually, I plan on the full minute at a time, and as close to full power as I can for punches and kicks.
      This was really good, even at a beginner level, thanks again.

    Hello Mr. Gardiner (and everyone), we are thinking about reconfiguring our basement so we can practice Karate at home. How much space is needed for an adult to do kata comfortably? Thanks, I hope, and take care!

    • @jkgardiner
      @jkgardiner  9 місяців тому +1

      Best thing would be to measure out your own Kata as it will differ based on stance length/style etc. In a smaller space the kata can be broken down to sections as well so it's not essential that you are able to fit a full kata in the space.

    • @bradhay3693
      @bradhay3693 9 місяців тому
