For people that may have missed it. Toji weapon being the dagger has the ability to cancel out abilities like Gojo's barrier or any cursed techniques. It also became one of the treasures in the Jujutsu world but it was lost after this battle. It caught Gojo more off guard because he depended on his cursed technique more than anything and that became the most fatal for Gojo.
Something more fatal happened later on
Gojo destroyed the dagger after this because of its technique.

The only time Gojo was the closest to death. The debate is what if Gojo had Red and Purple in the first fight, would have Toji been defeated earlier? I think it was the surprise element which killed Toji. I am sure Toji would have found a way to counter the purple, had he known about it. He was that much of a genius.
But it was also the surprise element that got Gojo almost killed since he didn't know anything about toji and what he's able to do, plus that he was pretty worn out
Also Gojo unlocked new levels of speed, cause before, he could barley detect Toji, let alone dodge him. And after unlocking Red and Purple was able to dodge Toji easily

It's the 2nd round, then he said something was off, he should've listened to his gut feeling.
Because he knows and acknowledged the fact that "he is bad at gambling and never made money off of race betting" despite his confidence that he'd win.
Side comment - IDK why, but Toji grew on me when watching the episodes the first time and I kinda sided and already liked his personality towards the end.
Maybe because of great writing? Bad ass physique? Amazing voice actor? Relatable body language? Maybe a combination of all of the above.

@@CameronNelson-gs6ls Round 1 definitely close. Gojo had to fought exhausted, thinking of protecting the girl and without knowing that Toji had a weapon which could bypass his barrier. Round 2 was close as well. Toji lost cause he didnt know about purple. In general you could say that the fight was a RCT diff lol. Both got surprised by the enemy , but Gojo got a 2nd chance thanks to RCT, Toji didnt. Maybe a 3rd round where both of them are aware of the enemy's attacks would be the best
I think toji expected the last purple attack to be parryable like the red one, but purple dismantles everything in its way. So he didnt knew that he had to dodge, because purple cant be Tanked, it erases everything that gets in touch i guess 🤔
The part that always drove me crazy was the fact that he parried Gojo’s attacks with a weapon that destroys cursed techniques under usual circumstances. It destroyed Limitless, and should be able to destroy red and purple too. Gege is known for writing an inconsistent plot hole filled story though I guess

The blade under normal circumstances should have “destroyed” the cursed technique like it did to limitless, but earlier on he blocked a red and it didn’t destroy it, so it makes me think, maybe it’s because of the negative cursed energy that it doesn’t work… who knows

It’s likely because of the surprise element and he forgot about purple, if he knew that any sorcerer can use reverse cursed technique, he would’ve had a higher chance of winning but since he thought gojo was already dead that’s why he didn’t know gojo was alive but badly injured.
