    The photos are sick!!! Is the auto focus system the same on both, not the speed, but the autofocus system itself. Thanks for doing this.

    Great comparison. I guess either any camera other than the 9 you would have to wait until it was darker out to have more dramatic effect. Can I ask what mm lens did you use for this shot? Those are some bad ass shots you took!!! Another great video. Thanks.

      Thank you! Yeah either that or use a different modifier like a deep focus reflector, or a strobe with more output. They were around 24. I used the 24-70.

    Amazing video! If you could upload in 4K it would be better to view the pics better. I'm debating between both cameras at the moment but I might go for A7Rv now with my A7SIII and probably A9III or A1 II later.

      Can go wrong either way. But it also depends on what you’re using it for.

      @@MattHernandez A7Rv for insane photography and usable 240MP mode + auto bracketing. A9III is near perfect camera especially that I'm 80-90% video oriented. Still A7Rv makes more sense for now as those are expensive cameras anyway. If A1 had Animal/Bird eye AF in video mode I won't bother with A7Rv but more than sure A1 II gonna be insane and might sport the new 2-layer transistor sensor which would make it on par or better than A7SIII in low light.
      Also 100% will have PCIe 4.0 for CFEA.

    Hi Matt. Thanks for that. Based on your experiences with both cameras, which is better for general hybrid use not using flash or needing ultra high shutter speeds (ie not solely sports photography)? Thanks .

  • @greggeis918
    @greggeis918 3 місяці тому

    Nice, looking forward to more. For this comparison since you’re above 1/8000 anyway, I think it would be more practical to drop ISO to 100 on the RV because we’re really about balancing ambient with flash. Although I get why you did it the other way to show the flash power difference between HSS and not but even that would change a lot when you back off the shutter speed on the A9 and it can catch the full flash pulse. A9iii comparisons get really complicated😅.
    Awesome shoot by the way, loved the lighting on him and the car, plus the lofi music to match was money.

    Thanks Matt! Re adjusting your flash "timing setting" in the camera to shoot w/the A9 at fast speeds: 1/80k a second, you stated Westcott has the configurations in a field guide? Do others: Godox, Profoto, etc? Just wondering how to acquire.

    I feel like you should've added another part to the comparison by using a VND so you're not losing power when you go into HSS

    • @MattHernandez
      @MattHernandez  3 місяці тому +3

      I would have but there wouldn’t be much difference doing that. A mechanical shutter can do the same thing as the global if you’re not going past the cameras sync speed with a strobe or taking advantage of the lack of rolling shutter. Thanks for watching I appreciate it!

    This video made me stop and think: The only time I’ve ever shot directly into the sun are early & late magic hours - I’ve never shot into the sun otherwise, thus I’ve never had a need for such super fast shutter speeds. Your shots were beautiful, but wouldn’t they have been better at magic hour?
    But if I were to try this daytime concept, wouldn’t an ND filter solve the problem you’re citing with the a7Rv? With a dark enough filter, you wouldn’t need high speed sync.

    • @MattHernandez
      @MattHernandez  7 днів тому +1

      It was approaching the magic hour as you can see by the direction of the sun in some of the shots. Light is better later in the day, but being a full time professional with a family means I dont always get to shoot during that time, especially in the summer when the days are longer. So having the option to underexpose when it's super bright is very helpful, especially with the power of the a9iii. Yes, and ND filter would solve that probably. I do use one a lot when I don't need to freeze action with fast shutter speeds, but because I shoot so many athletes I need both options. Thanks for watching and the feedback!
