I also drilled a small hole in the closed end so that an air seal would not stop the worm from going in all the way. I think the Office Hub brand is the same size but has less taper. A stick bait will go all the way in as long you drill the small hole. Thanks again, love the idea.
Great tip! For freshwater fishermen, you can also use those bands to wrap around the thorax of a live crawfish. Then just slide your hook under the band(s) and cast away. It keeps the crawfish alive and allows it to move naturally to entice bass, drum, catfish, etc. Fish on!
I fish wacky year round. Buy 3/8 inch clear shrink tube, cut about 3/8 inch of shrink tube and insert the worm finding the middle of the worm and with a heat source shrink the tube on the worm. Hook the worm in the middle of the shrink wrap and fish. I often catch 6 - 8 fish or more before the worm needs replacing.

I stopped by my local Dollar Tree and they have plenty of the exercise bands. They even have two different colors of bands now. Maybe it is a store by store decision to carry different items. I am finding that the resistance bands are more hearty than the bulk Orings I bought at Ace Hardware. Probably because I don’t cut them as thin as the real O-rings. Try 3/8 heat shrink tubing. Put the hook through the tubing and it locks the worm in place. I live on a lake and have been using the same worm for a week now.
I've been wacky rigging for years. Another way to get "o" rings on is take a used "sharpie" felt tip pen and remove the filler. It is the same size as the tool that sells at BPS for $7. Who doesn't have a used sharpie pen laying around.
You can use electrical heat drink tubbing. A lot stronger and you can cut them to any size you want. You can even heat them a bit if needed for a snug fit and they come in different colors too.
Great video! You can also run a pony holder through the eye of your hook and back around to the barb and now you got what I call "the weedless whacky worm!"
I use a toothpick to pull it through the eye of the hook...loop it on itself pull down attach to barb and there you you go. Toothpick works great to attach!
Hey Steve: Good solution there. An alternative I've used is Walmart hollow plastic big knitting needles. Get actual O-rings from a hardware store much cheaper than a fishing store.
Look for .25inch, ID, silicon tubing. It is used in the fishing world for fastening lead on to a line. But don't worry about that just get the tubing off line. You can also get the band's used for braces made out if silicon. Thanks.

I personally use the clear wide o-rings or bands or whatever you want to call them. This is a great idea but you’ll save more worms with the wider ones at least in my experiences. You can put your hook through one side of the o-ring, through the worm and through the other side of the o-ring and it creates such a stronger hold than these pony holders or skinny o-rings. You spend a little more money with these but you save money being able to keep the same worm on the hook longer. I’ve been able to catch up to a dozen fish with the same worm.
I saw a video on the wacky rig and the guy on it used two "o" rings, crossing then and then at the point where they crossed he ran his hook between the rings and under the crossing causing the hook to be perpendicular to the worm, allowing for a perfect hookset.
Thats how i do it with crossed rings it is much better i was losing fish with the hook parallel to the worm now that it crosses the worm even dinks are coming in when they grab it.

The fish (so far gar, back sea bass, spooted trout [a few] and 2 other salt breeds I don't know) have been caught. The fish bite the rope and can't get their little teeth free. I have had a shark, but he cut the rope.
yep the fish don't need a high toleranced sealing ring both in regards to dimensions and material ...unlike plumbing/pneumatic equipment....so why pay for it? lol
Great tip but I discovered that not all rubber bands are created equal. I did a whole pack of senkos ahead of time with the dollar store pony ties and when I went to use them the rubber bands melted into a black gooey mess!

I tried the bands but they melt off and are no good. Probably depends on the material of your senko, but I was using regular senkos, not any type of Elaztech or anything.

Honestly you can order 400 rings for 8$ on Amazon that are specifically designed for wacky rigging Senko or stickbaits. 7$ isn't going to set me back ever and I have aprox 390 more than I use anyways.
Are men really not able to get those PONYTAIL holders on the worm without using some kind of tube? How do you think women get them on their hair? You don't need the tube. Just open the damn thing and put the worm through it.

Clear shrink tube. Snip of a piece about a 1/4 wide slide on worm and apply just a bit of heat with heat gun. Very durable

I use heat shrink tubing... I cut 1/8" strips, put them on the worm, and shrink it down with a source of heat (lighter, heat gun, etc)

You might lose your plastic with the tie, but the fish will still get hooked. A small zip tie will work as well.

What is the purpose of the O-Ring?
The o-ring holds the hook as an alternative to putting the hook through the plastic worm. Doing the hook directly in the worm causes it to tear apart.
Won’t the scent from the marker turn off the fish?
No, all the scent is in the tube with the ink. If you wanted, you could wash the inside of the marker to make sure.
This type of fishing is more of an instinct strike so the scent won't be an issue until the fish taste it with a hook in its lip!!!
