+Joel Scarbrough I wish I could find a Congregation that was accepting , without judgement or requirements. I am quite sensitive and my relationship is with the Lord, not with people that will tell me what I must do to please him.
+Doug Ashley Great statement by Ashley. All Ashleys are most same. Pa Ashley in Nigeria is very brilliant and we did sit round him to listen to his words and adages. He directed the youth choir for years! As per this Hastings College choir, they've rendered this piece as if none else being by. The attack, the blend, the intensity, the interpretation, the dynamics, the cohesion, the flow and general carriage cannot be overemphasized.
That's the Holy Spirit that gave you that feeling. If you haven't already, please consider trusting God with your heart and life. You will never be the same again! Feel free to contact me with any thoughts, concerns or questions. 🙂
These is one of the Lord's favorite songs. Jesus told this to one of his servants in his teachings. Sometimes people aren't ready to hear things like this, because not everyone believes.
I can't believe you said that, I came here because I've never heard this. I was just listening to Kevin Zadai and (he died and met Jesus) he said Jesus told him this is his favorite song. I saw your comment and it kind of threw me backwards. I was just casually reading them. I see it was 3 years ago you said this. So interesting!
I always think of Corrie TenBoom when I hear this song. Her mother was stricken mute after a stroke but one Sunday at church her mother's voice surprised them all, though broken and raspy, broke out to a chorus of this hymn. This was during WWII. Shortly after her mother died and the family was arrested by the Nazis for aiding the Jews. Wonderful no matter who worships the Lord with it .
Corrie Ten Boom! I read her in one book I may not remember the title, but still remember she held on her faith in Christ Jesus. What shall separate us from the love of Christ? Nothing......Living or dead.
This was the evening worship my first night at College, Calif Lutheran in Thousand Oaks... 582 voices, sitting on the stairs in the lobby of the new dorms... you never forget it... but we did go on into Beautiful Savior...
mom2cairns we did as well. Out Christmas concert consisted of the combined choral groups and my college. I remember that verse being very legato with a heavy double bass part. The memories!
It's so beautiful at end! Dr Kevin Zadai has mentioned before that Jesus asks him to worship with this song... Fairest Lord Jesus.. If Jesus likes this song, we shoule like it and sing more of it!!
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (March 16), I filled in at a local Presbyterian Church. I played this as the Hymn of Praise.
I grew up singing this hymn as a young Catholic. My mother was the organist, and I know it was one of her favorites. I think some of the words were a bit different, as many Catholic and Protestant churches changed some words to their shared hymns after the Reformation. This is definitely a favorite hymn of mine as well, and this performance is beautiful!
Thank you so much for bringing to my attention the "rippling light" which twice flashes across the organ at the precise moment that the beautiful choir sing about our very beautiful loving Saviour, JESUS CHRIST, and His light "shining brighter & purer" than all the light of the sun, moon & stars which He Himself created in the beginning. I believe this is a sign from the Holy Spirit to honour, worship and put our faith in " THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD" (John's Gospel), especially in these dark days of pandemic & uncertainty. God bless you for your observant, discerning spiritual eyes, JESUS SURELY IS OUR ETERNAL GUIDING LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS. - with Christian love from Kathryn in England the UK
This is one of our communion anthems. I believe the tune is based on a traditional Swabian melody but for some reason I'd got it into my head that it was by Liszt. Maybe he just made an arrangement of it.
Beautiful! Not just in the musical sense but a true attachment and belief of those great words came shining through! Is there any possibility I could purchase this arrangement?
+HastingsCollege I enjoyed my Fulbright Exchange year in Nebraska and my visits to many parts of the State. I wish I'd seen and done even more. Thoroughly enjoying your You Tube postings :)
So many wonderful hymns out there, but I think this one, A Mighty Fortress is our God and How Great Thou Art stand out to me as perfectly written songs. Such thought and reverence in old hymns. Put's new worship songs to shame in my opinion.. 😏
My familys evening song from my childhood to this day!!
I am a Christian, and I lead this song often in our worship services. It is by far one of the most touching hymns ever written.

Holy highway
SUREEE.. LOVE IT SO MUCH.
I am not a Christian, but somehow this tune fills my heart with the purest of feelings.

God might be calling you to accept the name above all names as Lord of Lords. There is truth in this song.
Please consider excepting him into your life it is the best thing you would ever do.

I've watched this probably about 30 times so far, and many more to come. Such a beautiful hymn, so beautifully sung! THANK YOU!
It's just beautiful --just perfect holy worship to our Lord and Savior.

I fondly remember this as a boy too!
Well done, well done. Absolutely beautiful.
At 2:30 when the choir sings "Jesus shines brighter", notice how a light ripples across the organ pipes. Thoughts?

While this is a beautiful hymn, I think that’s just a car headlight
That's beautiful song!! 💙🤍💚💝💜💗🎶🎵❤️🕊️🙏✝️😇
Several times I listened with great harmony, pure angelic voices, congratulations.
Beautiful. Beauty of cappella gives more pure and enjoy its precision. I just admire the conductor.

It is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.

I've never heard it this way. I was always used to the second line being, "O Thou of God and man the Son."
I am trying to learn to sing this song. :)
This hymn is also known as the Crusaders' Hymn, supposedly sung by German crusaders as they traveled to the Holy Land.
Slaughtering as they went...
Amazing! :)
Just sang this piece for the St. Francis Xavier meet!

Which Hastings is this?

Hello. Is there a way to purchase a copy of this recording? Thank you for any response.
Because this video was recorded years ago, there is no way to purchase this recording. I apologize.
Beautiful.
Lyrics would be perfect.
