Would be pretty neat to see someone manage this in a non-spliced run. That said, I appreciate the transparency. Even though this can't be submitted to the leaderboard, it's interesting to see the best of the best compiled like this. It makes for good discussion at the very least.

The real answer is because speedrunners haven't found out how to skip it yet.
Even today new things are found for really old games. It's just a matter of time before someone finds a way to not only skip the runes but likely trick the gamestate into thinking you have all of them and a paraglider. It's all conjecture but it's crazy what gets uncovered many years later for speedrun improvements.
