Thanks Ayngelina for all your Foodies as I’m a foodisto myself (and from Canada too, lol) I enjoy watching every single one you have such a marvelous way of explaining these dishes, but I think it would be nice if you can talk about the food that you don’t like as well every one has food they don’t like it will sure make it more authentic, anyway, mille mercis de Boisbriand, Canada
Thanks so much for taking the time to write a comment fellow Canuck! About Ecuadorian food I choose dishes that I know I will like or think I will like based onw hat is in them. You rarely see me eat dessert because I just don't like it so unless it's some traditional Indigenous dish I pass. But I avoid all the tourist spots and international food in Ecuador because I know it's going to be mediocre. There are enough gringo websites, Facebook groups and UA-cam channels that cover it, my goal is to get people out of their comfort zone and into Ecuadorian owned small businesses. I did make a dedicated video about Bolon de Tere In Guayaquil only because it's so controversial at $11 for a terrible version of street food. But I don't censor the videos, I just really love the places we go. In an upcoming video in Little India in Malaysia you will see that I didn't love a sweet snack that I tried nor did I love lunch - it was good but not as great as what I had in India - but even then when dishes move to a new country they need to adapt to local tastes so it wasn't the fault of the restaurant but my expectations.
I think because I've spent so much time in Latin America none of the flavours really surprise me unless I'm trying Indigenous fermented food. But I'm in Asia right now where I can't place some of the flavours so on camera sometimes I think I look confused as my brain is processing things. I will say this, last night I realized that two of the common herbs served in dishes in Vietnam I absolutely detest. I'm trying to find the names of them so I can share on camera.
LOL! The vendor was worried about you not liking the pork jello, and as it happens, it is the local guy that cannot handle it! I am funny about texture as well, and that texture seems like it would be unappealing to me as well, nothing is for everybody... good man for trying it Andres! Really enjoyed a look at this town.
@@ayngelina No I haven't Ayngelina...it was the way Andreas and you sold the place that makes me want to visit so much.....and, to try all this food.....if Andreas have liked it since he was a child, it has to be good 😊
Nice video. Actually “chochos” are lupini beans. They are consumed in Spain, Portugal, Italy and many middle eastern countries. The tamal made out of “chochos” seems a little bit weird maybe out of “mote” which is hominy. I lived in Ecuador for many years but I never had tamal of chocho.
Yes but not everyone knows lupini bean so its easier to describe them as Andean white bean. Andres had never had a tamal of chocho either but they are a traditional in Latacunga. So it's a good reason for you to visit!
@@ayngelina okay, I did not realize that the painting depicted Blackface. I understand now. I was able to read up some on the significance of the festival. Maybe one day they will have a black person playing the role.

AJI, is the name for a hot sauce but it varies region by region. In the coast it tends to be hotter and is usually a pickled onion and vegetable base. In the Andes it is fruitier, made with tree tomato and usually not as hot. It does add spice but also an acidic element that seasons food. The tree tomato version is my favourite in the world, but it's also so interesting to travel and see how people change it around the country. Another great one is made with passionfruit aka maracuya.

Well I actually cut this from the video because it was getting too long. But at the market I got a custom green smoothie with spinach, beets, ginger and carrot because I hadn't been eating enough veggies. It is my go to at the market and if they don't have the veggies you ask for they'll go to the produce section and buy it for you. I think it was a nearly a litre for $1.50
Hi Marilyn in this video I do include the traditional barley (machica) and pancake from Latacunga and in other videos I have included the corn tortillas, choclo and other potato based foods. I try do do so as much as possible when I can find them. Although Ecuador has many vegetarian foods that are traditional vegan is a bit tricky. If you haven't watched it yet you might like my video of vegetarian Cuenca which has vegan options as well.

I am really not to much concern, because in Texas and while living in NM I never wore a mask and never caught the virus. Even being surrounded by people with the Virus. I just don't want to be hassle with the mask. But I am enjoying your videos and I have talked to you before about a personal guide for Quenca. Enjoy your life, sounds like you are, I envy you.
We'd visit just to try those Chuzos de Borrego (Pinchos). Just double checking, they're only open on Sundays and Mondays, and they sell out by 12 noon right?
Very well done!
Yes I recommend 10am and to split it. 😍
My grandfather was from Latacunga love alluyas
And queso de hoja, so good
@@ayngelina yes!!! We used to go there when I was a child, lots of memories. Thank U!!

@@ayngelina Wow TNX. I get it
I think because I've spent so much time in Latin America none of the flavours really surprise me unless I'm trying Indigenous fermented food.
I've told so many Ecuadorians that I ate togro and they looked at me like I was crazy.
What is togro? It even sounds unappetizing. Lol
I'm Like # 117 and loved this video! I'm part of the 15% and subscribe.
Thank you so much Maria!
😟 I think Latacunga is a magical place Ayngelina..thanks for sharing 👍
Have you been there before?
@@ayngelina No I haven't Ayngelina...it was the way Andreas and you sold the place that makes me want to visit so much.....and, to try all this food.....if Andreas have liked it since he was a child, it has to be good 😊
By the way, how did you travel to Latacunga? Did you fly to Quito first?
How long would you allocate with Andrés if traveling via car from Cuenca?
It's an hour from Quito. We drove from there. It would be about seven hours from Cuenca.
Good day friend… is a pleasure meeting you… I wanna introduce you to a life changing business idea
Do they have Diet Coke or Pepsi in Ecuador
Yes they do.
We call the pork dish head cheese or souse in German. Very common dish in Pennsylvania.
Oh really, I had no idea.
Good day friend… is a pleasure meeting you… I wanna introduce you to a life changing business idea
Mi mamá que es de Latacunga hace una salsa de chocho buenaza.
Watching you
While sippin Tim's
Oh so lovely
Hi I am wondering why it is odd for Mama Negra to be painted black? I love the mixture of the different cultural influences.
It's essentially black face, something that we know in Canada to be deeply offensive.
@@ayngelina okay, I did not realize that the painting depicted Blackface. I understand now. I was able to read up some on the significance of the festival. Maybe one day they will have a black person playing the role.
@@sharonclyburn7706 as a foreigner I had to acknowledge it makes me feel uncomfortable but also this is a country where most people are Indigenous, Mestizo or a small percentage is Afro Cuban. It's a fascinating festival and I hope to go, but I still feel cringy.
Who doesn’t like ? Pork jello ? 😅 omg i loveeeeeeeeee that texture 😅but your boyfriends reaction was so funny 😂 and his from Ecuador ! Come on!!! Just kiddding 😅 nice video like always I love 💕 the chicharrón from rositas chugchucaras and also the tiny empanada so good 👌 and the tamales 🫔 uff love it love it 😍

@@kristelfiore1330 oh I am with you on all of this
What is that "ahie" that you talk about. Is it like a pepper sauce? How is it spelt? I want to look for the recipe on UA-cam.
@@ayngelina OK thank you. Just stumbled on your videos...I love your videos. New subscriber here... Greetings from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. 🇹🇹🇹🇹
Ayngelina, I believe by now you are half Ecuadorian.
Hahaha I wish!
My God Ayngelina you are really, really into Ecuador aren't you? You go to the most obscure places there that I or most people I think will never visit. Even if I lived in Ecuador for 20 years I wouldn't bother to go these places.
That's my goal. To inspire people to see more of the country by showing there's lots to do there.
@@ayngelina You really do explore a lot of different places there. You've got a lot of energy and I give you a lot of credit.
@@Resmith18SR I appreciate that, thank you 🙂
@@ayngelina Your welcome and I mean it.
I like your video very much. You make a video about Dhaka Work, how to work there, about this.
Oh thank you, what is Dhaka Work?
But where are the veggies?
Well I actually cut this from the video because it was getting too long. But at the market I got a custom green smoothie with spinach, beets, ginger and carrot because I hadn't been eating enough veggies. It is my go to at the market and if they don't have the veggies you ask for they'll go to the produce section and buy it for you. I think it was a nearly a litre for $1.50
Chocho great protein!!
Sooo good!
I love machica ...
Did you grow up eating it?

Do you get to Latacunga by hiring a car from Quito.
Andrés has an SUV because he needs one as a tour guide. But you can easily get here by bus.
I'm vegan - would love it if you could feature more traditional foods that vegans would like.

The funniest part of the entire video is when the mestiza Americanized “white girl” says she’s white. No sabe que es una India mestiza??
The funniest part of making these videos is when people accuse me of intentionally saying words wrong because they think I’m Latina. I’m Canadian and my heritage is Italian and Irish grandparents.
@@ayngelina so you’re North American indigenous. It shows. You ought to do a 24 and me. We’re all essentially one people. North, central, South America, even the natives of the Caribbean that are almost all but extinct.
I actually did do one because I thought I was Latina since so many people brought it up. And I would have been happy to realize that I was. But I’m a boring European mix, both sides of my family came over with my grandparents. Believe me I wish I weren’t so boring.
