FYI,I stumbled upon this video and realized that I'm the guy who was fishing next to him. I sure didn't mind pulling my line up while he fought his fish. Appreciated the tips he offered and was happy for him. Seemed very knowledgeable and his willingness to share some info was cool. Best of luck and Thanks.
Thanks! Just because you're fishing doesn't mean you have the right to be rude. And I want to point out that the gentleman down the bank kindly pulled up his line and waited for me to land the fish. This is how it should be done.
In fly fishing, that technique is sometimes called the leisenring lift, when your fly is on a drift downstream and as the line swings downstream directly behind you, the line tension causes the fly to rise and it can be super effective on trout and salmon. Nice striper!
Very nice striped you caught! I'm from way down South, here in Houston Texas .Lots of bass here too , my friend, but I got the salt water . Tight lines never stop!
I just ordered the Daiwa BG 6500 today off ebay for $90. Saw a few reviews and tried one out at Cabela's. Can't wait to spool it up and go. You seem really happy with it's performance.
Good video...I Just added the 11’ TFO GIS 3-8oz rod to my surf rod collection. I have a feeling that this is going to be my go to rod for fishing heavy jigs in fast water. I don’t fish the canal but we have some deep, fast water around the mouth of the kennebec River here in Maine. I’m thinking it might be a good rod for jigging some of the inlets in Florida too.
Great video! Makes me want to do some east coast striper fishing for sure. I think that savage gear sand eel is a bait worth trying over here in California.
I just bought a brand new saint croix tidemaster spinning rod 17-40 lbs, 3/4-3oz 8 foot, heavy, fast rod, will this work fishing for stripers in the canal?
um, some would say that a heavy surf rod would be much better but it works, ive seen people pull in some fish that would seem unlikely to be caught on a small rod.
@@NativeMind0311 jeez dude, were not going after a hundred pound fish in here, a 5500 penn is more than perfect, a 10500 is a recipe to kill your arms especially at over 40 ounces.
I have the same rod , bought one ironically after watching one of the canal videos catching big bass so I decided to try it out , also heard how good that bg diawa is too , but anyway nice video
i've got the 9' tfo .5-3.5oz as a daily driver two piece that stays in my car and replaced a beater tica that finally kicked the bucket. it's a well built rod but the action is a little fast and it's a little too dainty for my taste and hand size. it may break in a little. i will need to add some kind of tape or cork above the reel because it is very thin and feels like a toy in your hands when you are working pencils. extremely fun and responsive rod for spooks and small jigs, and if you're looking for something lightweight and durable that will not break the bank then it is a very good option. it's also downright beautiful. i get comments all the time. butt is a little long for my taste. maybe 2.5-3" less and i'd be happy. 4000 is where it is balanced best but i run a 200 staal on it all the time and it's not all that out of place. 100 or 150 staal would be more ideal. i run 40 lb braid to 40 flouro on the staal and 20 lb braid to 30 lb mono on the 4000 BG. i hear the 11' rated for .5-2 is about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on for small bucktails and plugs.
This is a very dumb question, but I was wondering if the link to the rod blank was actually a link to the rod itself. I’m just confused because it says rod blank...
Nice fish. Good video. You change my mind. Planning on going to canal on August 22 for 3 days. Any advice where to start and which lures will be good. First time Cap Code trip. Thank you.
Not hating...just curious...I noticed when you measured your fish you started the tape at his tail and ran it down following the curve of the body to the top of the lower jaw...I too used to measure fish that way...in Florida now you can't do that as it can give you extra length...instead we pinch the tail ...lay our ruler on the ground and measure from there not touching the fish.... Any rules like that up there or are our FWC officers down here just stickers ?
Does the reel feel heavy do you think you could cast all day with it? I'm deciding what size reel I wanna go with a bg 5000 6500 or the 8. I will mainly be surf fishing for sharks and fishing from the piers. I held the 6500 and its a big reel. Is the 8000 bigger? Or is the spool just bigger
Sorry, people said he meant to say 27 inches but not really. I caught a 23 inches before it was as big as this one. Wonder why he didn't weight it or measure? hmm.. lol
Be wary of that tfo bro.... I don't trust those rods. I snapped two throwing stuff it was rated for. I snapped the second one, which was a replacement they sent for the fist one, chuckin a ~3 oz live eel. It was the second time I used the rod and I'm extremely careful with my gear so there was no way anything could have happened to it on my end. I don't believe they're built well at all
Szymon Saniewski they’re good rods trust me but if it’s rated 3/4-3 ounces then it really is 1/2-2 1/2 ounces. for being so light and “noodleish” they’re great rods
Who in their right mind would keep a 40in bass? That's a breeding size fish, and it wouldn't taste great anyone. Assholes keeping fish that size are the reason the bass are declining.
Sorry but your measuring your fish wrong ,not curved over the body,in inches as measured on a fish with it's mouth closed from the anterior tip of the jaw or snout to the farthest extremity of the tail.

Thank you! Small world. I appreciated how you gave me the space and time to land that fish. Tight lines!
@@achamess how do you like that 8000 size reel? Would you still get that size now?
So polite. That's great, don't see many fishermen with manners anymore. Keep it up.
Thanks! Just because you're fishing doesn't mean you have the right to be rude. And I want to point out that the gentleman down the bank kindly pulled up his line and waited for me to land the fish. This is how it should be done.
In wisconsin we just yell fish on. Salmon seasons almost here
Truth is the new hate speech don't be ignorant
Nice bass dude!
Cephas T fuckerfishermen out there teaching their kids to disregard everyone else out fishing.
You. Make fishing look so easy at Cape Cod Canal... thanks for the videos.. keep making it.. my boys and i love it.

That's a stud man good job I'd love to come up there and catch one
First time viewer -- enjoyed it. That setup would be an awesome Tarpon rig also. Catch em up!
👍👍 my fatigue fighting technique is I usually never catch anything! Nicely done ✅!

What a beautiful fish ,well done!.

Can you please break down why you choose the 8000 size, compared to other sizes and surf fishing applications?
Good job all around!
Thank you!
I'll be there soon to get that bite... more on that night bite.
5" golden bunker tsunami
fished there on 8/4 guy near me caught 43"
I caught a 43 inch 27 pounder that same spot yesterday
I got to get my ass to the reservoir I've been hitting the canal the last couple of months and we got nothing but shakers in it

Whats the best line for canal fishing? 40lbs or 50lbs braid?
Nice catch!
Befor i seen this video i picked a diawa bg up how did it hold up
That's a very nice fish
How did you have time to work on medical school and phd and fish??
What is the name of the structure that is seen there? Nice fish buddy.
How long is the handle from the reel seat to the bottom
Is that bell road side of the train bridge?

What brand of braid do you use? Also what lb strength did you use to land the 46 lb in your other video?

What the hell do you have 100 lb braid
When's the best time to go to the canal?
Myles Clark first light is reliably good. Night time is always prime time fornbass.
Alexander Chamessian do you fish topwater or bottom when night fishing the canal?
im thinking you meant to say 27 inch , nice catch...!!!
bowhunter2439 thanks!
how is the go pro , im thinking of getting one for some kayak large mouth fishing , can you recommend one , thanks

Would love to come fish with you
Nice catch, beautiful fish....but 27lbs?? :) 5 would have been generous:D
Think he meant 27 inches maybe
That was all of 20+ pounds easily.
Mikey Dip was there 2 fish caught? Maybe I missed the 20 pounder
Just reached and realized there were 2 fish my bad. Nice catches
Thats 20+ easy. 41.5 in. Our salmon arent 41in and weigh over 20#s
A 5oz head? That seems huge!
Guyinpajamapants thats what she said!!!
The current absolutely rips at times in The Canal. Anywhere from 2-6 oz heads are used
What is your surf top if I may ask?
Aquaskinz. I don't know if they make this model anymore.
Ty! Looking for a good all year surf top (layer up under in fall/winter and use by itself spring/summer)
some good eating but to me one the best bass to eat is a white bass next time you go try to catch some of them an fry them up. good vidja by the way

Try using the non waterproof case when you aren't going under water.

Jay Lu there are 2 fish in this video. See @4:10
Uh... yeah you see that? his hands were blocking the weight measurement lol
Plus 27 pound is a bit too big and old for the meat but who can am I to say because he caught the fish. Should have been released though.

For such a large fish it's not stripping any drag

Last thing you do in this fishery is give the fish a chance to reach the bottom.
