Another great video Phil, well done to you and Chris 🎉😊
Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
Thanks so much both for this wonderful episode, took me back to the mid 1970/80's, caught some nice barbel and chub here and saw the biggest pike I've ever seen, estimated at over 35lbs and looked to be 4ft long!! an absolute monster!!. I always said the middle Severn is one of the most picturesque stretches of river in the UK with the wonderful sight and sounds of the steam trains as a backdrop-pure heaven, great to have the aerial views too, cheers Peter.
Hi Peter, glad you liked the video. It really is a beautiful location to try and catch a few fish.
That pike sounds very interesting!
@@AnglingDirectTV morning Phil, used to fish the harbour inn side down to the lovely bridge, that pike was so big it was the only fish that actually gave me chills, I'm not sure I would have wanted it on the other end of my line-just glad not to be a roach or chub in its field of view!!.
My all time favourite place to fish on that island, great video and reminded me of my younger days catching lots. Please continue these trips out on the greatest river.... in my opinion.
Great video there guys. What I really enjoyed is the knowledge of water craft, it really does show the thrase "5 hours in the wrong spot and 5 minutes in the right spot " is absolutely spot on. 👍
Thank you Badger, it’s a combination of being very impatient and wanting to explore as much of the beautiful river as I can in a day 😂
Regards
Phil,
@@AnglingDirectTV Great scenery, certainly different from the stretches of the Ouse " above Bedford " that l fish for barbel.
The river of my childhood back in the 60’s. Haven’t been there for a while but after watching this, definitely going back soon!
Glad the video has given you inspiration to go back Andrew, good luck 🤞
Lovely video Phil. Nice to see someone roving with 2 rods . Thanks
Yet another quality video, great location, I like the drone shots to show the way the current flows, on top of all that, some lovely barbel, well done both of you.
Thank you John, great work from Chris on the drone footage on this episode 💪
Another cracking video from one of my favourite anglers, cheers Phil! 🎣
Thank you once again for such a kind comment Stonefly 😊
Regards
Phil,
Great video. I've fished that stretch myself. Very productive when conditions are right 👍🎣
Thank you Johnathan, it's a lovely part of the river 👌
Great video Phil lovely looking part of the river. Wish in many ways I lived nearer to the rivers. Got the sea so can't have it all
It's a lovely stretch of the Severn,
Find memories of fishing the middle Severn with my dad when I was younger, maybe late 70's early 80's and we were using meat then aswell!!
Great film and thanks for the memories ,
All the best Phil 👍🎣💪
Thank you Steven, glad the video brought back fond memories 🙂
Regards
Phil,
Great video, Phil, and not forgetting the great camera work from Chris. Keep them coming. I'd like one on winter roaching on still water - or on the Wensum.
Thank you Robert, we did actually find some ok roach in the river Wensum the other day. Sadly they are few and far between nowadays. 😞
We have filmed a couple of Stillwater roach episodes.

@@AnglingDirectTV Thanks for reply. I've seen the still water roach episodes. Very instructive. Cheers - Bob Chambers
Fantastic fishing phil
Thank you Alan, I was very pleased with the last barbel 💪
Regards
Phil,
Lovely work as always in front and behind the camera. Hope to fish the Severn for the first time next summer.
Thank you Tone, glad you like the video. Definitely do it, it’s a lovely place 👌
Great fishing, lovely swims and informative banter. Must mention the cinematic editing as well. How about a Zander trip? Thanks.
Hi Kevin, glad you enjoyed the video and appreciated the great work by Chris the videographer 😊.
Zander sound like a great idea 👌
Regards
Phil,
Great video as usual, very atmospheric stretch of river and some lovely Barbel caught. I would love to see a Zander video on the Severn or Trent, particularly using the quiver tip approach.
Hi Mike, glad you enjoyed the video. Lots of love for Zander fishing. I'd be very keen to make a Zander episode, especially bait fishing for them!
Regards
Phil,
Nice one Phil
Thank you Richard
Regards
Phil,
Great vid mate lovely double 👌 and a bait fishing zander vid would be wicked 👍
Thank you Neil, I’m well up for a zander video 👌.
Regards
Phil
Stunning location, have added the Severn to my list of places to fish. Thanks Phil
It certainly is a lovely place to fish. Good luck when you go.
Regards
Phil,
@@AnglingDirectTV Booked already. 👍
Great video Phil, I did a couple of years on the lower severn near tewkesbury and caught some big lumps. That was 7 years ago and I need to get back out.
Thank you David, I would love to try the lower Severn myself. Definitely get yourself back out there 💪
Good luck
Phil,
Another top video, although ive never done well on luncheon meat myself im tempted to try again now
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video. Luncheon meat certainly works for Phil 👌
Hello. In Belgium, i use barbless hook. I think it's much better for the fish.
another good video phil ...how about a river trent pike or zander video!....tight lines
Hi Rockdog, glad you liked the video. Looks like I need to get my Zander rods out soon 😉
Regards
Phil,
Phil knows how to make a great fishing video! Could you explain when you choose either working with the backwind vs. using the brake on your reel?
Hi Sixx, you must of noticed that I quite like to use both back wind and the drag on the reel.
Using the back wind helps me play fish very smoothly, I feel very much in control.
I prefer the drag when playing much harder fighting fish such as catfish, carp, big barbel, and pike. Sometimes a hard fighting fish can catch you off guard suddenly running off before you have to to react with back wind.
Quite often I use a combination of both!
Regards
Phil,
Great video as always! Maybe another grayling video on the centrepin wouldn’t go amiss 😅
Thank you Sean, I think I need to up my game and try for a bigger grayling on film 😉.
Regards
Phil.
I wish I could go here one day
The club is open access if you wish to go.

Would love to see you fish for perch live baiting on a river and how you would go about tackling up with pike about rigs tackle, great videos Thank you.
They both sound like great fun.
Regards,
Phil
that toothmark from the first barbel.. maybe phil you could fish something big here, has to be a monster :o
The problem is I think that monster might have either fur or feathers?
Regards
Phil,
@@AnglingDirectTV haha didnt think it was that kind of monster lollll, then it shouldnt be your target species i guess🤣🤣🤣
Great video Phil. I would be more than happy to watch more barbel fishing through the winter :)) .
What angle adapter were you using on that day?
Thank you, glad you liked the video. A nice big winter floodwater barbel could be a good idea.
I've had those angle adaptors a while now, the closest to them is probably the fox ones now.

Great video guys. How about a specimen video with some lure fishing Phil? Haven’t seen you do much of that before.
Hi Martin, glad you enjoyed the video 🙂. I've been chatting with Chris about a reservoir day lure fishing for pike next Autumn 💪
Regards
Phil,
@@AnglingDirectTV Can’t wait for that Phil. Be great to see how you search out the Pike on big Reservoir. Be nice if you did it without a fish finder.
Well done, some nice looking barbel on the first day & on the second day morning you hit that double well done, I used to fish the Severn back in the eighties for roach I had a couple of small barbel but it looks as though they have grown,
Thank you Simon, glad you liked the video. The Severn still produces some very nice roach as well as the chub and barbel 👌
Fantastic video. I wish the Gt River Ouse still had a decent population of Barbel in it. All decimated by the Otters.
Thank you Joseph, it’s a great shame so many smaller rivers around the UK have suffered predation from otters.
Regards
Phil,
Still some really big ones if you know where to look mate
@@bigfishinlittlebritain9808 thanks mate. I've had one from NPFA stretch. But, where else please?
@@joelohalloran200 little Paxton, below the weir, lots of doubles there, 16 14 and 12 recently
Lovely video ! What stretch of the Severn was that ? I used to fish the Severn on a BAA card in the 70s and 80’s for barbel on luncheon meat and had many an enjoyable day
Looks like Arles to me. Haven’t been for a good 15 years but recognise the railway stretch
Second thoughts it’s Hampton Loade
Hoping to travel to this river in the winter time for the pike.. but not sure where to head would like do few days camping so need find out the rules an all.. any tips where can look this up :) love you're videos got PB bream from one your last video :)
Hi Steve,
Congratulations on your PB bream 💪. I've personally not fished the river Severn for pike, but hear the tidal severn produces big pike and Zander every winter.
BAA control lots of fishing in the area, so it might be worth a look on their website?
www.baa.uk.com
Glad you like Specimen Series 😊
Good luck
Phil,
Hi hello what part of the river seven were you and approx were and is it b a a water thank you god bless you ?
Trent pike would be a nice video to see.
Hi Adam, I've never pike fished the Trent before. Could be fun, a good Zander river too in places.
Regards
Phil,
I moved to the area about 5 years ago now, so for four seasons the Severn has been my local river. It's stunning in places, including the stretch I don't recognise in the video, though with the Severn Valley Steam Railway in the background, it must be fairly local. I enjoyed the video and picked up some tips along the way, so thanks for more great content.
Looks like Arley to me at the start of the video, don't know whether he's working his way towards Bridgnorth or Bewdley tho
@@twincamspit i fish the harbour inn stretch whenever I fish Arley but I think you might be right. I never fish the LB as I get worried the car park gate will close.
Looks like Hampton Loade to me. Day ticket down there
@@ZerkaloAngling 21 seconds in is 100% Arley, but whether he then heads off towards Bewdley or towards Highley/Alveley/Hampton Loade/B'North I can't tell.
Beautiful stretch of river all along there, 6 weeks until I get to fish it again personally since I moved out of the area, have to wait until I go back for Christmas :D
@@jonreed5510 I've fished HL on the Kinver Freeliners dayticket but think they've lost their car park recently so not been this year.
Any chance of tackling some deep small to medium sized river trotting maybe on a slider float or long rod (17ft). It's more the technique than the quarry.
Hi Appleton,
If I could find a venue like that with a few nice fish in I'd happily give it a go.
Regards
Phil,
Hi Phil another comment/ question If I may? Was the decision not to feed anything based off the time of the river or just simply waiting a roving and exploring session? Thanks Jon
Hi Jon, I didn’t feed any loose feed because quite simply I didn’t feel I needed to.
Similar to using cheese paste for chub I sometimes like to keep on the move to find the fish.
On other occasions I will try to build a swim by little and often baiting.
On this trip I was keen to keep exploring all the nice looking spots.
Regards
Phil
@@AnglingDirectTV thanks Phil great videos
Can those 6000 Baitrunners be ordered with single handles or do they have to be bought separately? Also, what waterproofs were they please?
A bit of story behind my 6000 x-Aero baitrunners having single handles.
The 6000 come with a double handle, the 8000 have single handles.
My friend had the 8000 I had the 6000 size, we swapped handles as I prefer single handles 😉.
Regards
Phil,
What brand of 10lb mainline and hooklength were you using? The hooklength looked finer as if it was a different brand
Hi Accyboom, my choice of mainline was 10lb Korda Subline. It has great abrasive resistance which is very important on rivers like the Severn.
Hook length is will be either Korum Smokeshield mono or 10lb Drennan Supplex flouro.
Regards
Phil,
Noticed on the trent video you did that you were using 15lb line and 15lb hooklength. Was this because you were fishing for bigger fish or trent more snaggy than severn?
When you cast are you aiming for slack water just off the main flow?
Hi Tony, yes….well kind of! I normally cast just into the main flow so the lead settles on the crease.
Regards
Phil,
@@AnglingDirectTV thank you Phil.
What would you change/ what swims would you choose to fish if the river was high?
Hi Ollie, if the river was in flood. I'd be looking for the slack water near to the main flow. Obviously bigger leads too. Similar to my approach in this video I'd explore each swim by regularly re-casting around the swim looking for fish.
Regards
Phil,
Did you flavour the meat or just plain old luncheon meat?
I used plain meat on this occasion, although flavoured meat has worked well in the past especially when the river is carrying more colour.
Regards
Phil,
big perch and zander
Hello Funky, there's been several requests for Zander, I'd love to get out after them on camera.
I did catch a nice 3lb+ perch on an episode last spring.
