Do you know where I can find a group to play with online?
The best ways we know of are to (1) join Discord channels of communities you enjoy and see if they have "LFG" or "Looking for group" channels or (2) find "West Marches" groups that you can join if you want a more episodic, non-commital style. (3) There are also sites that host for paid DMs if you're willing to pay to play. I wouldn't be surprised if there are Facebook groups that can help with such group searches, like if you wanted to play in Curse of Strahd, I'd recommend joining FB groups for CoS and asking around.
Playing in person, you can try local game stores.
Honestly, playing with strangers sounds like such a better idea compared to trying to lure your friends over even for just 1 game and all at the same time.

i think this is the same as in work, a pickup game of basketball and playing online:
say something nice about the other person and ask thoughtful questions after introducing yourself with confidence.
This is the way.
Also, gotta be mentally ready if the others don't reciprocate.
