I am in NY as well. I live in Fairport. I have two OMPHobby M1 and M2 that I am learning to fly. I keep seeing people say larger Heli’s are easier to fly and more docile. Is that true? I was looking to maybe in the future buy a Helicopter like this. I looked at the prices of the RC group in Macedon NY, but it’s too much for me to join. Plus I am just learning.
A well squared away larger heli is more stable…but they’re also more expensive, more dangerous, require more room to really fly…I moved up sizes over a 12 year period and with each size you learn stuff. You will learn 5x more and faster if you join a club, that club in Macedon has some very talented members. A sim is a great way to learn and experience larger helicopters. It also depends on how you try to fly…I’m sure you could hover and do some basic maneuvers with a 500…if you try to jump to competition style flying I doubt that would go well. Sounds like your doing the right thing so far…come up in increments that suite you. Thanks for tuning in!
I tried flying mine for the first time V450D03 2 days ago and during take off in the grass it just laid over on its side and now waiting for replacement gears. I went to a large park that had a large grass field so I could react in time and never got off the ground. This one seems to go straight up. Do you have any recommendations. I am new to this. I have flown a few indoor ones. I want to do the DJI on it eventually. My guess is I did not give it enough throttle at take off. It is new out of the box.
I prefer a paved surface for test flights…preferably in a sheltered area away from wind…you most likely would have winded up with nicked up blades. Best advice I can offer is see if you track down someone who flies helicopters and have them look it over and review your setting…for what it’s worth, I did it on my own…but having someone to help me out would have saved me ALOT of time…and parts. I used to use a training brace years ago…sims are priceless, don’t get sucked into “impress people” mode. Take your time. #1…don’t give up…nine years into the hobby I banged my 650x up 3 times on test flights. Flies great now. Hope this helps, message me on Facebook if you have any specific questions, Kevin zenner. DONT GIVE UP :). Thanks for tuning in!

Great flight makes me want one
Been planning on getting one as my next heli. Think this settles it.
What kind of flybarless system are you using? BeastX I had so many problems I love the ikon2. I love your flying.
I've had my eye on this heli for a while.

@@rcflightz2058 Thanks for the response and advice. I am hoping its just the gears that stripped. Everything else seems fine.
