  • Join us as we reveal and ride a new bikepacking route in Land Between the Lakes, the LBL Bikepacking Overnighter!
    This bikepacking route, in Land Between the Lakes (LBL), takes its inspiration from the route for the April Fool's Gravel Camp, hosted by Gear Up Cycles each spring. Matt Falwell, the event organizer, has come up with a route that we think serves as the basis of a great S240 bikepacking route.

    I rode the Gravel Camp shorter ride. I still have a cool red specialized mask in the package from the swag bag. They gave me a few pairs of swift wick socks too!
    Really cool event!
    Now I want to bikepack there!

    I'm less than 3 hours from the Kenlake resort here in TN. I was on spring break with the kids but when I saw this video the other day I checked the weather and decided to take off Wednesday morning for my first bikepacking adventure.
    I parked at Kenlake and had breakfast at the resort and had them make me a biscuit sandwich and potatoes to take with me and some coffee to go which i carried in a thermos . I took off across the bridge and into the woods on the hard woods trail. Stopped off for my permit and maps at the Gold Pond visitors center and then took off out on 141 on the gravel!
    I was having fun riding through all the water crossings but about the 4th creek I rode I caught a sharp rock and a flat I would fight the next 50 miles! The hole was so large the plugs would back out with just a little stress so I had to do a lot more pushing than I wanted on day one. I forgot my rear wheel key so I had no way to install one of the 2 tubes I brought.
    I made it to camp on the water's edge near Woodson Chappel. Filtered plenty of lake water and boiled it just for overkill. I had used all my plugs and planned to make my way to the main paved road in the morning. The last 2 plugs I installed held pretty well to camp for 6 miles but in the morning they started to back out after only a mile.
    I quickly grabbed my first aid kit and took a foil packet and taped it over the plug using the whole roll of tape and it held all the way back to the truck! It's still holding air now!
    Thanks for sharing this video and please share more great bikepacking routes there at the Land Between the Lakes!

      Sounds like you had an awesome adventure, despite the mechanical issues with the tire.

      @@KentuckyCycling I consider it part of the adventure! I learned more tricks to get the most out of my tubeless set up! Nothing like under packing to show you what you really need!🤣

    Looks like another good reason for me to make another visit to LBL!!! Thanks for sharing! I’m about to send this link to “The Pisgah Pedalers”, the guys that I ride with most of the time!

    Great video! We’re planning to do some riding there this spring. What was your mileage to the campsite?

    Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Great insight and especially providing the road numbers. In mid-November myself and 9-10 of my friends from northern Ohio are traveling down to explore, bikepack and disperse camp, starting/ending at Grand Rivers.

    Thanks again for coming out to West KY and showing off our wonderful LBL area full of great riding! i just got into some gravel this year riding a rigid single speed MTB with 2.2 tires and it is a blast and a great break from the road riding. Appreciate all of your efforts to show off all of the great cycling options we have in this beautiful state!

      You've got a great area for gravel riding. And on a single speed. Beast!

    Love LBL! Been visiting since 1977. Are ebikes allowed on all the roads/trails that you videod?

    • @KentuckyCycling
      @KentuckyCycling  2 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately,my understading is that the current policy of LBL is that ebikes would not be allowed on the trails specifically designated as hiking/biking, which would include the portions of the Central Hardwoods Trail and the North/South Trail that we road. Riding the gravel roads wouldn't be an issue. That being said, I'm hopeful that there policy will change. For what it's worth, we actually saw someone on an ebike when we are the Central Hardwoods Trail.

      Total distance was 62 miles (see link to route in UA-cam description) and we started our ride on Saturday, October 1st, so earlier this month.

    Would I be able to ride the Central Hardwoods trail that is not paved with a road bike?

    • @KentuckyCycling
      @KentuckyCycling  2 роки тому +1

      You certainly could, though I wouldn't view that as optimal. If I were to ride it with a road bike, I'd want at least a 32 mm tire.

    Would love to ride my ebike on these trails if it’s legal..for me with my failing health it either get one or sit at home on the couch….and I’m not doing that

    Why would you need anyone's permission to ride this? They don't own the road.

    • @KentuckyCycling
      @KentuckyCycling  26 днів тому

      Can you speak to what generated your question? There's not any permission needed to ride the route (though it's not entirely on the road). But, backcountry camping permits are required to camp in LBL.
