    I have enjoyed LBL for many years. My 1st trip was in 1980 when backcountry camping was free. I have been turkey hunting up there since 1984 when my truck was still new. When TVA ran the place, the roads were much better. The 14 day rule is for one place. You do not have to leave LBL, just supposed to go to a new camp spot. But, no one ever checks. The longest I stayed was 21 days when turkey season was longer. I have only been checked one time in all my trips up there.

      Great to know, thanks for sharing that! We just discovered it last year but loved it right away. Did see lots of turkeys! It did look like many more of the roads had been paved at one point. I bet you know all the good places, lol!

      Thank you so much! That really means a lot coming from someone with history here - we try to learn as much as we can about the places we visit, but we will also be the first to admit how much we don't know! We love to learn and are always open to feedback and comments. Happy New Year and new adventures!

    We love Canal Campground, literally at the canal between ky lake and lake Barkley. It's operated by army Corp of engineers. Beautiful, priced very well. Sites have electric and water. There's a beach, very nice boat launch and dock. The boating is amazing.....endless and warm by mid summer.

      We aren't familiar with that one - thanks for sharing! It sounds great! We did see lots of boats on the lakes/rivers on both sides. We don't have a power boat but thought it would be fun to come back with our canoe!

    LBL is my playground, it's 20 miles from where we live. Big suggestion, plan your camp trip well as reservations are necessary, back country is fun, the primitive campgrounds are great. Wranglers is more for those who have horses, and trail ride. Hillman's Ferry you totally missed an epic campground!! We raised our kids there, lots of great campsites, loads of activities for the kids, and it's worry free! I didn't know that Hillman's had cabins, I think it's only Energy Lake, which is a great, quiet and excellent for those who kayak.

    Moved from CA to Clarksville TN and got 2 4 wheelers and heard about LBL for the offroading and they also have camping.. I REALLY want to take my family, when I lived in LA I did go up in the mountains solo and had gone camping when single but in TN I do have some wooded area in my backyard and have tent camped with my oldest son (8) but my backyard slopes way down and then a gulley and then slopes up on my wooded area.. setting up camp on a hillside is an option but I want some basic flat ground camping.
    Most tent and tarp shelter videos i watch on UA-cam work really well if you're not on a 25 degree incline haha.. i think LBL is only like 1 to 1 1/2 hours from me.
    Anyway enough rambling, your video shows a great deal of options, I do have a toilet seat topper for a 5 gallon bucket i got on Amazon for what ifs but I think the lady wants proper toilets and shower capabilities.

    • @HEKNBAK
      @HEKNBAK  7 місяців тому

      Lol! I think that is the deciding factor for a lot of people. We used to backpack and were pretty good with catholic back then, but as we have gotten older we like having a little more comfort and convenience than that. Definitely give LBL a try! They have a dedicated ohv area there too! 8 is a great age for camping. Our boys are grown now, but we did a lot of tent camping when they were young. Great memories! Thanks for watching!

      LBL is one of the best places we have found for dispersed camping in our area of the country. There are so many options for any kind of camping you want to do here, but it has never felt crowded. We haven't camped here in the middle of summer though, so that might be a different experience.

      Awesome - thanks so much for watching and following! We haven't done much hiking at all in LBL yet. Most of our exploring has been done in Heknbak, but we are trying to get back out there. We used to do a lot of hiking and backpacking but we've both had some injuries that sidelined us - Tim ruptured both quad tendons and I've been rehabbing a hip injury, but we're starting to push ourselves to do more hiking again. I really miss it - I always feel so calm at at peace while hiking!

    The $10 per night is way more affordable. It has become so stupidly expensive to just camp! I'll take the $5/night but on a social security incone, dispersed camping is the only way I can afford to camp. When my kids were little, we camped for next to nothing and could afford it back then. And NOTHING has changed to warrant the high nightly prices.

    • @HEKNBAK
      @HEKNBAK  6 місяців тому

      I know, right. Now some states charge you a service fee to make reservations online at Parks. We camped at a location the fee was more than the daily rental, flat fee, but for a one night stay that was ridiculous. We're happy to support the parks, don't get us wrong, but that feels weird for a primitive campsite.

      Thank you! The one right before the names cover it? That is Kuttawa Landing - northern end of FS 127. It is a pretty open spot with a turn around there, so not really remote or private, but easily accessible. Looking out across the lake though, you would never know it.

      Thanks for watching! That one is at the end of FSR 139. It's a popular spot with overlanders and off-roaders. It is quite a ways off of The Trace, the main N/S road. It is a pretty rough road and if it's been raining especially, could be very difficult to get too.

      The locals call it Persimmon Beach. Many people camp down on the beach there too which is allowed but they have started writing tickets for being off trail if you drive down there on it, although it looks like the road continues. Stop where they stopped in the video and you’ll be fine.

    I love dispersed camping, I like to find areas with natural clearings and only move loose sticks, leave no trace and leave the area cleaner than you found it. Pack everything out and for gods sake bury your your business deep, nothing ruins a potential camp site like someone's business left on the ground with the paper left on top. Bury your sh!! and pack out your paper.
