    Please note that not all videos on this topic are like this, I’m not saying that they all are, these are mainly the my opinions on the few that are like this.
    Not my usual content, but I wanted to bring to light some of the issues that mainstream witchcraft posts often have. These videos/articles/posts often reach hundreds of thousands of people with no understanding of witchcraft and can be misleading to beginners and display a large lack of respect for the magickal community as a whole.
    I want to note that this video isn't aimed at any individual or organisation, but instead a discussion about the general practice to help beginners and curious folk alike to notice the flaws in these videos.

      Probably because those religions are seen as "holy" and to be respected. Witchcraft and most of the pagan paths are still seen as "unholy" by many, a fad, trend or just something to scare people with. Many people don't think it's real or deserving of respect.
      Of course some of those people don't know their name is in a jar or a freezer somewhere either 😂😂

      @@patriciamillar2225 to piggyback off of what you said, i think if it was more well known or if it was as mainstreamed like witchcraft is now. I would not put it pass people who do not realize that it a serious religious practice to others. Some what to dip their toe in and learn others would just poke fun.
      I am not a witch(yet, it might change) but there are some similarities I see between the law of attraction and witch craft. Like scripting is the same, speaking it into being can be seen as casting a spell ( it is not quite the same but close ) etc.
      I just love learning about others spiritual practices.I found stargirl the practical witch, harmony nice and the witch of wonderlust great channels that helped me know more about Witch craft and witches.

      @@MissLizzy882 Me too! I saw a YT message by Jessi Huntenburg on her channel last week, and she was actually contacted by a film maker who does documentaries on various topics for a channel well known for being disrespectful, so she turned them down and asked the community to write and prevent this "documentary" from even being made. Some of us also wrote to give negative feedback about that completely ludicrous "I became witch for a week" article from around 2 weeks ago. This type of imbecilic coverage and the underlying sensationalism and disregard for the craft seem to be on the rise, and the community definitely needs more critical, informative and differentiated coverage of this phenomenon, like this one. KellyAnne recently talked about this as well.

      The thing is, magic isn’t as easy as they make it in movies. I’m Wiccan, and my best friend practices witchcraft. Magic is real, but it is harder to learn and you have to have faith and practice to do anything with it. I don’t do divination (black magic), which could be completely different from what I practice, but you can practice and have it help in your every day life

    • @screamingopossum7809
      @screamingopossum7809 4 роки тому +28

      Exactly.
      People use crystals to help with chronic pain when they feel that all else has failed. If they're going to be on medication for the rest of their life to help with arthritis, why not let them do it? They're not hurting anyone and they don't want to be dependant on medication that barely relieves pain. Placebo is a very powerful tool when used right.
      Crystals won't heal your broken bones or your bronchitis, but if it can alleviate symptoms of pain and suffering, what's wrong in that?

I don't practice witchcraft but I do study it as kind of a hobby and I've come to believe that witchcraft seems to be the placebo effect much like the placebo effect of religion and praying to a specific deity.

    As someone from a Christian background, I will say that some people are openly mocking of religion of any type and they feel very safe in doing so. I've had a lot of people who will stay stuff like that about christianity where they grew up atheist and read the bible and it didn't make them believe in god or they've gone to church and it's just a really boring man saying a bunch of words and then everyone eats a cracker and it didn't make them feel anything. I think before anyone can expect to get anything out of any religion, they need to really try and make it work for them with an open mind. Not even psychologically proven therapies and coping mechanisms will work for someone if they don't make a genuine effort to make it work for them and actually put it to use. I think it's the difference between doing something at the surface level and actually, intentional doing it that trips so many of these people up

    I definitely know what you mean. I am a part of alternative fashions and this is very similar to issues we run into with the media. They don't even take the time to learn about the different fashions and other things and then conflate them. Like lolita fashion and living dolls. They are not the same thing. We are not living dolls. Or there was an article that was presenting several different Harajuku fashions all as lolita and when I pointed out that this was not true a friend believed the article over me and said that I was just elitist. So yeah I really wish the media and the news was more interested in the truth than in sensationalism and othering.

    Thanks for actually addressing this issue! x 🔮Unfortunately the witchcraft and magickal community is being taken as "a joke" and "just a phase" or "just for aesthetics" which can give beginners *like me a year ago false impressions; anyways Thanks for all of this. Your ideology in the pastor part was great

  • @nairbvel
    @nairbvel 4 роки тому +14

    I lost count of how many times I was snarkily thinking, "Don't cloud the issue with facts" during this video. We live in a world where instant gratification is almost required and anything not mainstream is supposed to be "weird" or "stupid" -- in essence, the controlling factors in modern society are behaviors associated with children and young teens. On top of that, repeated studies have shown (at least in the West) that organized religion is splintering and losing some of its hold on the majority; it's no wonder that individuals unhappy/uncomfortable with that are doing their best to reverse the trend by showing how "right" their beliefs are vs. how "wrong" others are. Followers of the "big three" Abrahamic religions never seem to remember that their clergy go through years (in most cases, a lifetime) of ongoing training to reach the point of understanding & leadership they occupy -- thus anything that's done by a layman checking out a belief system in passing for a few days will seem (to these people) to be just as valid as anything clergy says & does. I'd also looove to see the reaction to a set of videos along the lines of, "I was a Christian for a day" or "I practiced Catholocism for a day"...! Lastly (at least for this rant) is that we're sitting at the endpoint of centuries of viewpoints being adjusted by those in power, sometimes subtly, sometimes not. The end result is a set of images that are relatively common to all & that make communication easier.. but that are communicating a specific image that has no linkage to "truth" beyond its intended purpose as defined by those in power. Margaret Hamilton's green-skinned, overly dramatic, wild and evil portrayal of a witch in "The Wizard of Oz" is an archetype that's unlikely to have EVER existed in reality (f'rinstance, when's the last time you saw a naturally green-skinned human) and yet when you say "witch" it's likely to be exactly what pops into the minds of even the most dedicate Pagan or practitioner of the Craft. The only solution is to keep working, to keep disseminating the truth, keep showing the very real overlap between "science" and "magic" in the real world, and keep pushing back. Witchcraft in Western society has always existed on the edge -- there's no reason it can't flourish there and keep exerting positive influence on the center. (Sorry for the rant, I actually had *lots* more to say! )

      To describe a recognised religious (and spiritual, I know it's not all about Wicca) practice as "based upon a wobbling base of bats***" is UNBELIEVABLE!!! Would their publication be happy to publish the same sentiments regarding Hinduism, Judaism or Buddhism? I suspect not.

    In my friend group, they know that I practice witchcraft and the rule is, "when we're out and about, having fun, hanging out, they can make fun of me all they like, but when I'm practicing any kind of magick, you show some respect and take it seriously, or bugger off." And idk about anyone else, but this works for me and my mates so I'm okay with that. I just wish the people in these 'I spent a day as a witch' videos would have at least a little bit of respect when the time calls for it.

    Thanks for this Hearth! Kudos for yet another great video. 😊
    Engineering graduate here, and I also believe that you can practice magick and still be a "science person" as what most people would label. It's sad to know that most people believe in an "either/or" situation instead of an "and" when it comes to science, religion, and magick. Little do most people know that the sciences we know today actually came from magickal backgrounds (Modern Chemistry came from Alchemy, and Medicine came from Medical Herbalism, to name a few), and fail to see how one facet complements the other between the Mundane and Magickal.
    Frankly, I also find it rude how some people in youtube videos make frank, blunt remarks about the craft, taking away its solemn value to the practitioners. I see these people to either be scared from learning deeper or they refuse to accept it because they did not see it unfold before their eyes at the moment.

Which is one reason I backed away from witchcraft at a younger age. You really have to read & read many sources to find what is real & what is b.s. This is why most people think witchcraft is totally different than it is in reality. So, again, thank you for putting this out there. Very well said 🧚

    What an EXCELLENT video. Informative, comprehensive, honest, differentiated and long overdue for the world to see. THANK YOU. I have been waiting for this to be said for a long time, with a heart filled with rage and sorrow, and this really helped me find some peace... I have been practicing witchcraft for over 15 years, my daughter is a witch as well. I am also a trained psychiatric nurse, I studied 4 years and I definitely do not take blood samples by wearing a pointed hat, biting people and sucking their blood. To most of the uninformed, witchcraft is simply a mix of playing silly games and believing in superstition, and this type of superficial, disrespectful videos and articles only perpetuate the ignorance and the misconceptions.

    Thank you, Hearth, for your channel. Your presentations are well thought through and clearly stated. You have integrity. Many social media workers don't. You will not change this.
    It seems to me that the current fad to "be a witch" is only a fantasy fashion, and most of those who follow it will quickly tire and move on to the next craze.
    In my experience, true witches are very frequently, if not always, born "other", and never followers of the norm. It is an Art, and we are artists, never understood, usually underappreciated, and destined to be those who learn truths which are inaccessible or uninteresting to most people.

    Hi, I've been on my journey now for years. This has resonated with me on such an awakening level! Bless you! I have managed to find a school for help considering, all of the mixed information. Yes, this is hard to start out, even coming from a "crafted under the rug", aka hidden in my own family. I have asked questions all of my life, with no answers .. now after finding my direction, wtf to start? I want to thank you for in helping me in my direction!! I've wasted years. Yes, I believe too, it is time to end the confusion starting with myself. I want to help others, but like others, I was being mislead and on my way of being disrespectful (as you see in my name). My intentions are good; but in being misdirected, I personally have decided to start all back over. I have been in this start process now for about 2 weeks now. Thank you for this confirmation! I want to learn and to keep learning more, not just for myself but with the intentional research and shared experiences that will in turn help others! If you sense anything about this path, I welcome your feedback. Again, thank you for this video and thank you for sharing all that you do, and yes, I'm also researching, comparing, journalling, etc ...and following, and unfollowing some as of today. TY 😊
