I prefer being a solitary witch. I find what I do very personal. It is nice to chat with other witches but I prefer to do the practice alone.

I've never even met anyone "like me" enough to join in with but, as a green witch, I can't imagine working with anyone else. I need to be able to "hear" the world around me to do my thing, and I have no rhyme or reason to my practice, I just feel what the soil, weather, wind, moon, plants lead me to do. A garden club might be cool though lol

All the witches in youtube that I consider my mentors (the list includes you hearth), I find that the one thing you all have in common is that you all are particular in sharing your own creative craft but also are keen on allowing each individual to explore their own spiritual creativity/way of doing things. And I agree 💯 on that. We are all created equally, we all have specific styles and ways of doing things. Other people's strengths may not be yours, but your own strengths may not be theirs as well. And finding your own path and own style to flow onto I believe is the way to go. I just find shoving one's ideas/styles in somebody else's mouth, heart, and mind, saying "you HAVE TO do this and that" is just nerve wrecking and makes no sense at all. As always, thank you for sharing your craft with us.
I'd personally love to learn more from you, or at least know your take on things. Here are video content ideas that just popped in my head today:
    1) Working with energies: how to work with, raise, and level your energies
    2) How to harness/train your intuition/psychic abilities
    3) How to create charm bags and what are they for and how to use them
    4) How to talk to/communicate with your guides/how to know who your guides are
    5) Your energy predictions for the upcoming year and how to deal with all the changes that are coming in
    6) Full moon/new moon ritual essentials how, what, why (how their energies help boost your potions/oils/charms/sigils/etc)
    7) Solar and Lunar eclipses: effects, energies, what they can do to help boost/deminish your magickal practices (since we just had a solar eclipse this year and their's also an upcoming lunar eclipse)
    8) Invoking goddesses/gods/guides/angels/daeties and the like
    9) Healing and shadow work (dealing with your innermost self while doing your own solitary practice)
    10) Astrology and numerology (if you do practice this?) how they affect and correlate to your practices/craft
    11) Understanding and knowing your own craft. How to pick and choose what IS/ARE naturally yours to take
    12) Your first encounters with the divine/elementals/spirits: what you did and how you dealt with it, just your story on this would mean so much
    13) Different planes of existence: your belief and knowledge in this
    14) How to create an altar for your ancestors and spirit guides
    15) Travel altars: do you make them and bring them with you in your long far away travels?
    16) What you think about quantumology/ quantum healing: do you practice it?
    17) Any video about the new year: how you do rituals for the new year, how you prepare yourself for the new year and the like
Was just literally writing it all down as these came to me. Hahah hoping to catch your next Q&A to ask these questions.. I live in a different time zone. Was lucky enough to catch the last one. 😍😍😍
Thanks again and have a good rest of the week everyone.💜🦋

I'm Solitary Eclectic. That came to me in my first year of practice. And you're so right, it can be disheartening. But I think it's meant to strengthen you and give you confidence to be the powerful practitioner you're meant to be. It really makes you draw on the self and be reliant on the self. It's also very humbling. There are times you must continue the work and rework things until you get the desired results. It also helps with self discovery that, personally, I don't think I can get being around others. Being around others is great, but it also can open you up and make you subjected to the opinions and labels of others and where THEY FEEL you should be.

    • @ghettocountry8678
      @ghettocountry8678 4 роки тому

boy that hit deep, reminds me of my past...that's def. true about the opinions, labels, and what you should or shouldn't be doing. Yes we have to find what works for each of us individually, and this is what makes you the witch you are, and also what begins to become your belief when you find something that works and it came from your own aura energy field and then manifest or like a light bulb came on, or a buzz bellows up from the ears out of nowhere. This is what makes you strong when things start to begin to shine through and your enlightened, then you go wow, this is why I'm in practice and can grow with.

I love your style of teaching. "You do you" with "here's my personal experience" because as I'm learning, I have heard "you have to do it this way" from so many others, and I'm so unique I can't learn that way. So thank you, Hearth, for all you do! You've given me the courage to try, learn from everywhere, take what works for me, and get started. Love to you!

Honestly, I used to be in a coven, in college. Still in college, but not the coven. This coven was EXTREMELY toxic. I, of course, didn't know this from the beginning. Here is where we start this story. At first we were a small group, nothing more than maybe around 8 people, me included. So we decided to get together and teach the new witches how to do things. Of course 3 of them got together and decided they were in charge of everything. The few of us that had wanted to help out were told that we were not to teach anyone anything, red flag #1. So first meeting comes up and my roommate and I were to believe this was an energy circle class or something along those lines. We get there and of course, we don't do that, they were passing around a joint and beer bottle. I was of course upset that I was lied to and left. We had a few more meetings, where we actually did things magically, but not actually helpful, just draining experiences really. We were also told that we couldn't bring others into the group, yet the 3 people that decided they were in charge brought people we didn't know or trust into the group(the other 5 really)... *more red flags going off* Then enters the gate keeper. The man who refused to let anyone do anything if it wasn't what he or the main 3 believed in. Of course people shot back at them, but nothing came of that. If that didn't set me off, these two things did. 1: they decided to do a spell and forced everyone to come. I was being forced to put energy into it, EXCEPT we all weren't allowed into the main circle and weren't getting anything from this, just putting my energy so others could get things out of it. I and a few others were told we were too weak and that we were better off not being in the circle, and was forced to stand there and pretty much do nothing for and hour. :T Yah...I know...they only included the people that no one trusted into this circle for whatever reason. Anyways, 2: One of the 3 was "teaching" religion and gods and things and told everyone that the powerful witches only followed *their gods/pantheon* ... we were all like uuuuh....one of my friends stood up and asked why they were saying this and that it was perfectly fine to follow other gods, and she was told to sit down and shut up. Later that night the 3 went up to her and told her to leave and that they didn't want someone like her here. (she told me this after ofc) Later that day, they decided to get the group together and told everyone why they should hate her and that they should curse her....I was horrified and pretty much left that group quietly, and later found out the original 3 left that wasn't the "Big 3" left as well because they were not ok with cursing her. Yep, that is my encounter with that toxic "coven"... :')

you got sucked into something for their own purposes, sounds like for their own gain just to throw you out....That's bs...I enjoyed reading your story although that was mean....I think if your putting energy in, your gonna get some energy in return whatever that be, and the sources at work will take care of what was happening, that energy still lingers within your story,(hurtful energy is taken from you against your own will) so i see it as one day when they won't notice until it comes back around and that scene will come back to them and they will remember, and karma is a dark witch in itself at times when need be, that has to balance out the light and dark when things get out of wack....

That doesn't sound like a coven to me, but more something with the original intend to be a coven but someone with paranoid schizophrenia took the idea to make a cult out of it. 😅 Karma will get this person sooner or later, bc a lot of gods and goddesses don't like asshole behaviour

Thank you Hearth. Your video was very informative. I am 67 years young! and I have been a practicing solitary witch. I too tried a coven and I do agree with you on both the positive not so positive aspects of belonging to a coven. First and for most, I was involved with Wiccan tradition and left it. I personally feel that covens and Wiccans have rules and regulations that just turn me off. Every day of my life I have to abide by rules and regulations and I don’t want that in my practice. I want to be free and do as I please.i don’t want someone telling me that I’m not doing this right or this is not the way to perform that spell . I am a firm believer that if you place all your intent and energy into your spell you will reap the outcome. To me being focused and feeling inside the desire of my goal , wanting , seeing, tasting, projecting with the upmost energy I can raise will be a positive manifestation . It may not be what another Witch chooses to do as I do, but then if it works, that’s what matters.
Like you I feel the need sometimes to be a part of a group of Witches and share information, just to be with like minded people. I stay away from know it alls. Power hungry Witches they exist just like in any other chosen practice. I know my energy and I know how to work what works for me. However, it is always nice to hear what other Witches are doing.
I greatly believe in sharing my knowledge that I acquired over the years and also from my grandmother and mother. The did not call themselves Witches. They most certainly did follow the Pagan ways. I learned many practices from them. I was blessed because anytime I had a premonition or psychic experience I was always encouraged to try and understand it and talk about it with family. Not to the outside world. At that time it was felt to be dangerous , people would not understand and I would be labeled weird or crazy. But my my family understood and guided me which allowed my intuitiveness to grow and today I am so grateful. It does get Lonely at times because all my family members have gone on to the place of rest and no one knows me better than them.
You tube is a nice place to get to share information and contact like minded people .
So thank you very much for your informative videos and the of good you are doing for Solitary Witches out here .
    Brightest Blessings
    Angie Kirsch

Wow... that coven story went super emotional.. i feel you. I am a solitary practitioner, learning through books and through inspiring mentors on youtube such as YOU, the witch of wonderlust, stargirl the practical witch, and thatbabywitch. Always always learning everyday, every single day. And I just love it. And I am also blessed with a group/community where we do spiritual work almost every week that respects each other's background and each other's path and own spiritual creativity.🙏 When it's in your path, it's in your path. It is what it is. No forcing it. But purely flowing with it--and you just trust and expand and boost yourself in full faith.🦋
PS: I love your hair and makeup today😍

I’m definitely a solitary witch, 5 years actually practicing; but have always had a witchy spirit. I love learning from online platforms such as yours, but Spirit tells me o use caution about joining groups due to weird/ dour/ negative energy and motives of others. Because I blend so many occult practices, it would be crazy to find covens who share my blend of magic (African American hoodoo/ rootwork, Latin American folk magic, Native American lore, Wicca, and ancient European practices). Not everyone has the same motive and vibration. Although, I would love a coven for special celebrations throughout the year! I’d love to dance nude around a bonfire with a wild group of like-minded witches😱🤪🤣!

Unfortunately, a hallmark for being human seems to be the need to simultaneously say "the universe is beyond the ken of human understanding" and "I know exactly how it works and what all the rules are." (The more involved one becomes with an organized religion, the more prevalent this becomes.) I know that groups & covens are very important to, and helpful for, some people -- and if you're one of them, then more power to you but my life experience (I'm well past the half-century mark) has me solitary by choice and I'm loving it . :-) I know that I'm missing out on that special feeling of "belonging," of being a part of something greater than just oneself alone, but the positives of the solitary approach -- for me, at this point in my life -- far outweigh the positives of a group experience.
PS - Good job reining in your obvious frustration around the 17:30 mark. Also, kudos for the acknowledgement that one's ability to give of oneself to a group effort, or the lack thereof, affects the entire group; that's something that far too few people are even aware of these days, much less willing to act upon.

That's one thing about being a solitary practitioner that is disheartening, and that's the feeling of being totally alone in what I do. I know there are many other witches and pagans out there who feel the same, but finding and connecting with them is difficult when it's like you feel as though you'll be a burden to them if you want to talk about something or ask a question. But I still think it's nice to be solitary because, like you said, you have a lot more freedom to take on the spell and magick work when you want. I personally would love to find a coven of like minded witches to learn from because I'm still very hesitant to practice, but I've also had and felt great results when I do.
I'd love to see a video about how to find a local coven! I think that would be awesome.

Witchcraft has been practice in my mom's side of my family for 100's of years. I was raised and taught by my Grandma in the faith. None of her children wanted to follow in the practice. So since her death I have been a solitary practitioner myself. I've always wanted to go to a coven but living in the bible belt we are hard to find. My children get picked on because I don't hide my beliefs. I'm called a devil worshiper. But they are proud that I don't hide it and I give them the choice if they want to learn.

I'm so glad that you've put this video up Hearth, it's so interesting as well as useful to hear your experiences. I'm really up for learning from others and having people around to discuss different approaches and perspectives with but right now I feel more comfortable with doing that online. I love being solitary and working this stuff out in my own way and in my own time though. It's easier not having to deal with others who think they know more or better. Closing a tab or turning my phone off is a lot more straightforward than telling a person they're overstepping or walking away!

This evaluation of ‘the group’ of witches was spot on! I belonged to a group but we also had a huge community of witches. You could easily feel the ‘PRIESTESSES’ who wanted top billing. I must say though, we just avoided those people in a magickal context and just kept it polite and got great connections just by following your gut and finding people who were your style, instead of the ‘bossy witches’ .
There are lots of great people in these communities just talk to the ones you ‘feel’ a connection with. ❤️
Great video and not often talked about online. 👏🏼👏🏼

As a solitary practitioner, and kind of in the broom closet, I do miss being able to talk to other people about the craft, and just in general have someone in my life that I can talk about this part of me to. This said, I think I could not be in a coven. I like exploring the craft with an open mind, taking information from everywhere I can and then decide for myself what I am going to try/include in my practice. I know I wouldn't like at all having to practice in a way decided by others, and being told when and how I should practice.

It's difficult on your own in Australia our seasons are in reverse and most of the stuff I read and watch such as yourself is from the prospective of the Northern hemisphere. It's not Yule here as it's Summer so it's Litha but I'm slowly getting my head around it.

I am a solitary witch and I enjoy learning and trying on my own. But I would rly like to hava a coven which meets from time to time for some special events like sabbats or rituals. I think that way you can experience the most out of it. Learning to practice together AND finding your own way too. But since I am also a secular witch this isn't that easy. I am not sure that I would like to include deities in a circle casting I do not believe in. Hopefully I will find a way to experience both ways one day even if it is only a group of 2 - 4 people :)

I just do better doing things alone BUT my best friend practices and we study and theorize and celebrate things. I also have a friend that's a very open minded Christian and she said is would mind celebrating with me to learn things and I love it cause even though my mom doesn't mind me being me she doesn't want the practice in her house soooo I can study but I can't act it out.

I have a group of 7 that meets once a month. And we are all from a solitary background. We do Moon and most sabbaths together to raise our energy and then do solitary spells on our own during the month. We enjoy sharing and recharging ourselves together.

I live in small town Midwest USA. There are no groups in this area, ( I have looked). I'm a solitary and I do enjoy that, however I would like to experience a group setting someday. What is your opinion of online covens? Thanks for your videos as always so informative.

    • @stagehandjay4683
      @stagehandjay4683 4 роки тому

I personally never understood the concept of online Covens. Have been a member of 3 Coven's over the years(32 to be exact).
I at this point in my life just prefer to do solitary rituals and spells. I do occasionally host a small Sabbat ritual. Usually just 4 people in circle instead of just me.
But Solo witchcraft is where it is for me.

I’ve been a solitary Wiccan Witch for around fifteen or so years but there is a local coven with which I’ve participated in rituals. I’ve joined them at Sabbats open to the public and was invited to and attended closed Esbats. These were great experiences for the most part except for subtle differences in our styles. My tradition is a blending of Celtic and Native American and they focused the rituals around Hecate. I felt the rituals should stick to The Goddess and The God but they had been together for years practicing this way. There was also the fact that, even with my years of experience, I would be starting out with them at square one. I ended up not petitioning for membership but sometimes still wonder if I missed out on a potentially great experience.

When I lived in the Appalachia I was part of a group that would meet every full moon and new moon, we were number of backgrounds, we talked about different philosophies, crystals, practices and books. It was very casual. We had a man in his eighties that fit the definition of mountain men That wanted to learn about the goddess. One woman brought her small daughter (five or so). It was at a new age shop so all were welcome, When one of the elderly women son died in Florida we held a gathering for her to send love to her son. We didn’t call it a coven, we called it a tribe (it could be an American thing) Later when I moved to the Northwoods of Wisconsin I Have not found that, but I am sure I will. I found two people so far.

I’ve been asking myself for years if I’m doing this right. Only ever done a little spell work and never cast a circle in my life because I didn’t know where to start though I’ve understood core concepts and like manifesting and the need for visualization of your work weather it be the process or the result. I honestly never picked up a book regarding the use of magick till just this weekend and I’ve been studying this for more than 10 years through the internet in my own very strange way. I really don’t know how I could function in a group setting like a coven or even a circle of friends because I have some very non traditional and on the fly moments that kinda borrows from everyone it can be very confusing. Honestly I just stumbled on your channel last week and I’ve managed to accomplish more in 3 days than I have in 10 years because I was missing fundamental ground work. I’m kinda glad I didn’t try and join a coven for the fact that as you said individuals can be very loud do wish I had picked up some books sooner.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and thoughts and recommendations on books I really wish I had stumbled on your channel way earlier never called myself a witch because I felt I didn’t know enough but I already feel like I’ve come much closer to being comfortable taking up that title

Covens are great for celebrating Esbats and Sabbats. And the occasional odd ball ritual thrown in every now and then.
But yeah I can agree that having to meet up everything 1 or 2 members needs a protection spell is not going to work long term.
Everyone in the coven should be able to cast their own spells, for themselves. And if not, why are they in a coven? Covens are for witches and if you can cast a single protection spell for yourself..... I mean. 👀

I just finished reading Thorn Mooney's book "A Seeker's Guide" and it's FANTASTIC for those interested in coven work!
There is a local coven I found and would be so interested in being part of, but I just don't think I'm a suitable candidate yet. I'd love to have some sort of coven connection though.

  • @jscorpio1987

I've been a witch for about two thirds of my life (almost 20 years), and have practiced with a couple friends here and there, but I've never felt what it's like to work with a coven. I don't think I could ever be part of a coven because I've always been a very private witch, but I'd love to maybe celebrate a sabbat or something with a coven at least once, just to see what it's like. Who knows? Maybe I'd enjoy the experience. It does sometimes get lonely being a solitary witch when 99% of my family and friends are witchcraft-hating Christians that want nothing to do with that part of me. I guess I'm lucky in that they've learned to accept me *despite* the fact that I'm a witch (and gay), and therefore I don't have to deal with being harassed about it anymore, but it would be nice to have people around me of like mind for a change.

( i am totally respectful of everyones faith & religion) ..

Is there a reason you can't work both ways? Like, for the simpler things just do them on your own as you need, but if there's big magic you need, you can call in your coven to help get the job done? Do you HAVE to save all you're energy for the Coven gatherings? I guess it's just a matter of finding your tribe. I've never been able to find many people that I can relate to in regular life, so I can't imagine finding a group of people to practice with. I would love it though!!!!

I get the feeling you weren't a fan of group projects in school either :p
I can't really even call myself a practitioner, but for some reason involving other people feels like it would be more of a bother than a help. Then again i'm also a bit asocial and prefer to do things my own way.
