I have very sad news and am heartbroken. Little Oreo was doing phenomenally well all week after her tooth trim and was eating a lot. She was getting stronger and looked like she was going to make it. And then a few days ago she took a turn for the worse, did not want to eat, did not swallow her syringe food and started laying on her side. Her owner reported a huge lump in her neck which I am almost sure was Cervical lymphadenitis which is an infection most commonly due to Streptococcus zooepidemicus, but may also be due to Streptobacillus moniliformes or other Streptococcus spp. This is why I always check deep inside the neck of all guinea pigs that visit and come for a health check, all incoming and outgoing animals get a check up as well. Since she was already so compromised her little body stood no chance against an aggressive invading bacteria. You were and are much loved little Oreo! You are a special little girl.🌻🌻🌻❤

I wish I could donate, but my family's been running low on money recently and we've been putting it towards care for ourselves and our piggy first. But LAGPR's an amazing rescue, and with such a great ambition! I really look up to them
One of the best investments I've ever made was a julienne peeler. This makes "grass-shaped" veg pieces that a pig can take up with their lips and chew with their back teeth, so they can get solid food while recovering their front teeth function.
You are so amazing Saskia. If only we had one of you in every city. You should start a training program and offer people the opportunity to learn from you and maybe earn a certificate through your rescue. You could do it mostly online and then maybe a couple of days in person at the rescue. I am sure people would be happy to pay for this type of education (maybe even some professionals, like vets). I have to applaud your willingness to help these small animals in need. That said, a visit to a vet is always a good idea, someone who would have anesthesia or acepromazine which could be administered to lower stress and allow easier access to the mouth. Also, the animal could have blood/stool /urine tests for infection, as well as x-rays. Yes, it's way more expensive, but the amount of knowledge you can gain from a single doctor's visit can often help avoid worse problems down the road. It's possible the infection was already present and in her weakened state, finally had the opportunity to become critical. Bless you all for your commitment to animal well-being.

I'm so sorry for little angelic Oreo. May she rest in peace . Thank you for helping her and you did all you could. She's at the Rainbow Bridge and in no pain.
This channel restores my faith in humanity. Good luck, Oreo! One of mine has a bit of a crooked snaggletooth.... I've been wondering that, do I need to take him to get his teeth tidied up, so when I saw guinea pig teeth in a video BOOM I was on it. 7:50 LOL My daughter and I tried some of the different kibbles the piggies eat the other day. She spit them out but I ate mine no problem. Tasted a lot like that grass powder drink I have every day, actually. The alfalfa had more of a lingering bitter after taste that the Timothy pellets lacked. Critical Care costs a lot.
Awww poor thing she's trying to eat. She wants to eat. Its a good sign so she'll gain some weight soon. I have much hope that she'll recover and be plump and healthy in no time.
I’m so glad they took her to see Saskia but I really wish people would take their animals to the vet more often! Especially when they KNOW something is wrong 😢 so glad Saskia took care of her though!!! It’s so important for exotic animals to go to the vet! Small animals don’t have “wait and see” periods like cats and dogs do, it’s important to always act fast and get them seen ASAP!❤️

This reminds me of a little guy I had who died young (only 2.5 years old). He was small and never seemed to grow much. Then after 2 years of age started to develop what I thought were diabetes-like symptoms, drinking constantly and weeing all the time. By the time I took him to the vet he was already critically ill and very bony. Despite treatment he died the next day. I now keep a diary and weigh my piggies twice a week. RIP Rufus! 😪❤
Awe little mama!!! She is so sweet 💗 please keep us updated on Princess Oreo's status and health updates xoxo I hope with the continued trimming of her teeth they start to grow normally. You rock Saskia 😍
You took such good care of her and she didn't make it, so sad. I had a piggie that wouldn't eat salt spools and she died of a goiter (tumor on her thyroid gland). But she was pretty elderly too, over 7 years-old. A warning to people who want a pig, the big pet store chains in the OK,TX, KS areas use one breeder and their pigs have been in-bred too much and tend to develop breast tumors both boars and sows, but especially the sows get huge tumors that can invade the intestines. My last two from PET-R-US (not a real name) developed tumors that are effectively inoperable. The surgeries are a success, but the patient dies...:(( You are so kind and caring for our little friends, thank you so very much.
I've a guinea pig that looks almost identical as Oreo, but my Clementine has more black fur. Sad to read that Oreo passed away, I was rooting for this beautiful girl.

And after seeing your videos I definitely do not want to buy one from a pet store! I live in Wichita Kansas so I will have to do some checking
Poor little girl. You can see on the top teeth where they met with the bottom teeth, the green markings where she was grinding the bottom teeth against, if that makes sense? I hope it all works out. They don't make braces that tiny (but could you imagine? Lol)
Aww feel better Oreo. I can definitely second the use of a towel when syringe feeding lol I ended up covered in it when one of my really squirmy pigs was sick!
Thank you so much would also be nice to know more about meds u use on the pigs for different things would like too know more i take in piggies as my own all the time i have 11 piggies and i woukd love to know all i can your videos always help me u and Scotty are my inspiration maybe one day i could get somemore ppl in delaware to start a rescue here so that way we can save piggies on this side of the us

hi saskia. i am so thankful you show this here. i bought the same Instrument (bone rongeur) and it works so well. i have to trimm zwergis frontteeth also nearly all 3-4 weeks. very good video!!!

9:07 I get what Scotty is saying haha if companies used the good stuff instead of cheap fillers (corn, wheat, soy) they would have to sell it for more money
What kind of Guinea Pig is she? She is so sweet. I live in Wisconsin, but if there was some way I could get to Cali, I’d adopt her in a heartbeat. Please take really good care of this one. She is special. I hope her teeth get better so she can eat like a real Piggie!😇🥰💕💕
Absolutely love your videos. I’ve learned so much! I work for a CBD Processor. We make oil as well as many other products and I have used the oil for some of the piggies I have rescued. It’s a lifesaver. Did you weigh her before the teeth trim the first time? Maybe that’s why she weighed less.
Yes it is the BEST for piggies. I honestly don't think I could ever do without it. I am in the process of manufacturing our own CBD product for our brand Piggies Choice. Is there a big CBD show coming up soon?
You made this look so easy What tool did you use to cut the teeth? Was they just pliers? I hope I never have to do this but it's good to know these things just encase To see her eating the carrot was amazing...she is such a good girl I never thought about blending the mushed food...that's a really good idea so I might do that if I need to syringe feed plus you can add veggies in to add nutrients and flavour
Hi Saskia, love your show, love your care for all the piggies. We have a few ourselves..60..we have a couple piggies needing teeth trimming..what should we use please? Thankyou! Jacqui in Perth, Australia 🥰🥰🌺🌺
She looks like gizmo. From gremlins! Such a sweet baby. Glad they rescued her. I was able to save sweet pea thanks to saskia, Scotty and other wonderful guinea pig owners.edit. you are the whisperer. Sweet pea is intently listening to you guys. Little ears wiggling. Could you list the ingredients through your Amazon?
Saskia I hav a question I got a guinea pig at petco in Michigan on December 22 and I expected my guinea pig to be cuddly able to hold without trying to run and cute but it’s the opposite please anwser
It is normal for a young guinea pig that has not been handled yet to be skittish. Have a look at this video, it may help you and your piggie. ua-cam.com/video/9lmQHU4SZIU/v-deo.html Also think of getting a friend for your pig, that i super important. Good luck!
I have 2 guinea pigs and one is breaking out into grey patches on his nose and inner ear it’s dry and flaky and sometimes bleeds it also caused his hair to go away my mom said it’s a fungus so we got a cream and an anti fungal shampoo. Do you have anymore advice to what we should do
Sounds like a typical case of Ringworm . Here is the at home treatment protocol. What is ringworm? Ringworm is fairly common in guinea pigs so don’t freak out! It is a fungus that often presents on the outside and inside of the ears, around the eyes and on the nose. Though it can appear anywhere on their body it is most often discovered in those areas. It is the same as Athlete’s Foot in humans. Ringworm most often does not require veterinary assistance and simple over the counter creams and shampoo can clear it up. It is highly contagious however, so wash your hands after touching the guinea pig and wear an apron of some sort to prevent spores clinging to your clothing. Where do they get it from? They can get it from another infected guinea pig but it can also develop in a guinea pig that has not had any recent interactions with other animals at all. They simply carry the spores with them and in times of stress or a diminished immune system the fungus can get the overhand. This sometimes happens in a cage with two animals living together. Only one will get the fungus and the other animal remains totally unaffected. (The same goes for lice and mites) How do you treat it? 1) Any anti dandruff shampoo like Head and Shoulders, Nizoral etc. Though if the infestation is bad we recommend buying this shampoo “Davis Miconazole” you can get it at Amazon - amzn.to/2LY7n8K 2) Over the counter medicated athlete’s foot cream SHAMPOO - First of all wash the guinea pig the medicated anti dandruff shampoo Put a small towel in the sink to prevent slipping and use lukewarm water, lather them up real good and let the shampoo sit for 2 minutes and then rinse. You must wash the face and ears also. Make sure to pay special attention to the affected areas and rub the shampoo into the skin. Most guinea pigs do not like to be bathed but this is something that needs to be done. After you towel dry the animal really well you must blow dry them. Never put a wet or damp guinea pig back in its cage. It will take a long time before they dry by themselves. They will get catch a cold and get sick. Do this for once weekly for three weeks. CREAM - Apply the cream directly on the affected area and make sure you really press the cream into the skin where the fungus is located. Do this twice daily for three weeks. I have other guinea pigs do I treat them too? Yes and no. If they are not showing signs of the fungus then there are obviously no spots to put a cream. However, you do want to shampoo them with the anti dandruff medicated shampoo to make sure they stay healthy. You should only do that once or twice in the three weeks it takes to treat an infected guinea pig. Do I need to disinfect the cage? I have found that treatment of the individual animal(s) is enough. Though it never hurts to disinfect a cage. Use part water and part bleach. Let it soak for a few minutes and rinse off really well.
Lost a pig to overgrown back molars due to his jaw being somewhat out of alignment (not sure what happened, he was a rescue). But what really pisses me off to this day is the jerkoff vet didn't even listen to my suggestions of either he's not eating because 1. He's got internal issues or a blockage, or 2. His molars are overgrown. He didn't check either issue + charged me fifty for a checkup, and my pig ended up wasting away despite Crit Care and doing everything I could. When I got a different vet at the same office to listen to me and actually trim the teeth, it was too late. Is there a way to cut the molars yourself? They put him under, but by then he was too weak to recover.
Can I feed that super food mix to a rabbit?? I rescued bunny that is dehydrated,so boney and malnourished.and his nails were severely over grown.. I want to fatten him up..

9:07 I get what Scotty is saying haha if companies used the good stuff instead of cheap fillers (corn, wheat, soy) they would have to sell it for more money
You're a very nice person ! You saved many little lives! They are surely grateful. Carry on!
Yay!! You saved princess Oreo
Aww poor baby 🥺
I have a runt guineapig as well, she is just like any other piggie and is completely healthy!
I was smiling so big when Oreo was eating her carrot. Then I saw Saskia’s update. 😭
Saskia added an update, sadly Oreo died
She is Beautiful.
She is beautiful
Thank you your words about how much they such eat.is very helpful. Love your show
Absolutely love your videos.
You made this look so easy
What tool did you use to cut the teeth?
Was they just pliers?
I hope I never have to do this but it's good to know these things just encase
To see her eating the carrot was amazing...she is such a good girl
I never thought about blending the mushed food...that's a really good idea so I might do that if I need to syringe feed plus you can add veggies in to add nutrients and flavour
What an angel you are 🥰
What kind of cbd are you using?
Does it hurt them when they get their teeth trimmed? Makes me cringe just watching it.
I fed my rabbit that mixture and she loved it and now she wont stop screaming til i feed her it
I use Dr. Schulz Super Food every day! Best stuff in the world!
I have that same guinea pig
Hi Saskia, love your show, love your care for all the piggies. We have a few ourselves..60..we have a couple piggies needing teeth trimming..what should we use please? Thankyou! Jacqui in Perth, Australia 🥰🥰🌺🌺

It is a fungus that often presents on the outside and inside of the ears,
around the eyes and on the nose. Though it can appear anywhere on their
body it is most often discovered in those areas. It is the same as
Athlete’s Foot in humans. Ringworm most often does not require veterinary
assistance and simple over the counter creams and shampoo can clear it up.
It is highly contagious however, so wash your hands after touching the guinea
pig and wear an apron of some sort to prevent spores clinging to your clothing.
Where do they get it from?
They can get it from another infected guinea pig but it can also develop in a
guinea pig that has not had any recent interactions with other animals at
all.
They simply carry the spores with them and in times of stress or a diminished
immune system the fungus can get the overhand.
This sometimes happens in a cage with two animals living together. Only one
will get the fungus and the other animal remains totally unaffected. (The same
goes for lice and mites)
How do you treat it?
1) Any anti dandruff shampoo like Head and
Shoulders, Nizoral etc. Though if the
infestation is bad we recommend buying this shampoo “Davis Miconazole” you can get it at Amazon - amzn.to/2LY7n8K
2) Over the counter medicated athlete’s foot
cream
SHAMPOO - First of all wash the guinea
pig the medicated anti dandruff shampoo
Put a small towel in the sink to prevent slipping and use lukewarm water,
lather them up real good and let the shampoo sit for 2 minutes and then rinse.
You must wash the face and ears also. Make sure to pay special attention to the
affected areas and rub the shampoo into the skin.
Most guinea pigs do not like to be bathed but this is something that needs to
be done. After you towel dry the animal really well you must blow dry
them. Never put a wet or damp guinea pig back in its cage.
It will take a long time before they dry by themselves. They will get
catch a cold and get sick. Do this for once weekly for three weeks.
CREAM - Apply the cream directly on the
affected area and make sure you really press the cream into the skin where the
fungus is located. Do this twice daily for three weeks.
I have other guinea pigs do I treat them too?
Yes and no. If they are not showing signs of the fungus then there are
obviously no spots to put a cream. However, you do want to shampoo them with
the anti dandruff medicated shampoo to make sure they stay healthy.
You should only do that once or twice in the three weeks it takes to treat an
infected guinea pig.
Do I need to disinfect the cage?
I have found that treatment of the individual animal(s) is enough. Though it
never hurts to disinfect a cage. Use part water and part bleach. Let it soak
for a few minutes and rinse off really well.
Poor little Oreo. So sad. 💔😪😪😪
The tool you use for the front teeth what was it called?

Volatile Sky I’m sooo sorry.
I sadly hear stories like that all the time .... so sorry 🌻
Can I feed that super food mix to a rabbit?? I rescued bunny that is dehydrated,so boney and malnourished.and his nails were severely over grown.. I want to fatten him up..
Absolutely!!!🌻
