@16:10 Just trying to help here but when all your shelves are the same and thus your led count is the same on all shelves, when creating the first segment and you click 'check', there's an extra button (three lines) that appears which you can click and wled will automatically split the rest of your led strip into identical segments for you.
Maybe i missed it, but you didn't show how to power both the board and led strip, and how to connect them, all the practical stuff. Could you show it? Hope my question makes sense.
I was wondering the same. He missed some important info.
I would love to see this, too. I was waiting for it - but it just got glossed over through the magic of a montage.
Saved this video for all the answers when my controller board gets here. Looking forward to starting my wled journey with my next lighting project.
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thank you! I don't have any shelving I can do this with, but I'd like to run it around my room
With a tiny bit of extra work you can attach a microphone to the ESP32 and use the sound reactive version of WLED. It's all kinds of fun to play with. I've been using the diguno and digquad from quinled just to save myself time.
It's amazing how many big tech people don't know about WLED! I have a 75 inch TV running hyperion with a pizero W (ambilights that react to whats on screen, AMAZING!) using WS2812B LED's 20 bucks a roll and TONS of ESP32's (15 bucks for 3) and the LED's on these are all over my house. All controlled with Alexa! Versatility second to none and all voice controlled. Warm white and cool white...any color... you name it, it does it! All for SUPER cheap
I’ll have to look into that. Sounds awesome!
@@BreakItYourself yeah definitely cheap out Hyperion! You'll need a raspi to run it. It's like wled...but it controls LEDs you mount on back of your TV. They follow edge color of screen. It would be another great video for you too I bet. Which you killed this video too btw! Awesome job!
great video, was watching a video from Chris Maher who added a mic to make the led's able to have sound reaction for a nice effect.
Great information. Fellow South Louisianan here. Doing my 1st 6 Tier Floating Shelf for my son for his models with SK6812's in Muzata Spotless Diffusers. Couldn't decide if I was gonna just connect them all from the left side in parallel with animations going left to right or in series like this. I don't think I could address them individually in parallel. Haven't received all my stuff just yet so...Wouldve LOVED to see this setup do some animations just to give me an idea.
I have kitchen cabinet, bookshelf lights and many more miscellaneous lights throughout the house controlled via wled. Once connected to home assistant you can have them all flash when each person's phone rings among other great automations (kids bed times, homework time, wake up times, feed the cat/dog times, birthdays, holidays, reminders, etc.) HA+WLED is a great combination. Use the scene create function to save the current states of the lights, then trigger a preset for different ppls phones or whatever trigger you want (the blink effect on a high speed and intensity combined with a specific primary color for each person/trigger along with white as a secondary color provides the perfect alarm-style visual cue effect for phones ringing, smoke alarms, motion alerts, etc.). Once the trigger is complete (or a time delay if preferred) activate the previously saved scene to put all the lights back to their previous states.
Excellent tutorial, thanks so much for making this! Love the ESP32 and WLED combination
Great video! I appreciate the Navi River Journey for us Disney Freaks!
haha we're in the same boat (pun intended), as I'm an alleged Disney freak as well. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
Very Nicely explained with Live Display.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment
Hi, I want to led a ceiling that to covered I need 40ft of led’s, can you recommend good addressable led’s, controller and power supply, and if they should be installed on a track with a diffuser or with a Cob version will do the trick? I like them to look seamless .
great video - I've just discovered the ESP 32 boards and in the middle of playing around with the options these provide and this was very inciteful. however i have to say this... when did you leave Cerro Gordo and start doing smart home videos! lol
well Linus is sooo 2021, i personaly use the Quinled controllers, there are on the fly controllers like the dig2go to real 100amp beast boards, look at the intermitting tech channel or the channel of Drzzs, these controllers are already wled installed.
Look good!... how to setup chasing - left side Shelves - start running right, climb up (next shelf up), running left, climb up (next shelf up)...and go on til top of the shelves then jump to other side of shelves? How to set that in wled?
This man is a genius. Oh and he has a kid so he hasn't had a good night's sleep in years.

Interesting video. Please make a video about a variant that supports Matter over Thread.
First time seeing your channel, amazing production quality, looks amazing. Constructive criticism: I think your intro could have been half as long and then jump right into the details. You went over way too much for me and I was overloaded before even seeing any details. It was all valid info, but could have been done later the video without having to repeat it all. All of this said, you have almost 100k subs and 33k views, so you certainly know what you're doing, so feel free to ignore me :D
Thanks so much for watching and for the constructive feedback. Rarely do people leave such great feedback outside of "you suck" lol. You're spot on with your analysis. Happy Thanksgiving!
I've been looking to do the very same lighting setup on a smaller scale. Did you add a controller for each individual shelf? I want to have my setup light up from the center then toward the left and right edges and I've been trying to figure out how to do that
Perfect video
👍🏼 👌🏼 ✅
6:31. Don't use separate controllers. simply use a separate GPIO pin on the ESP32 for each data stream to your shelves. WLED will let you configure this. You still need to run the wiring, bur don't need all those ESP32's. Same end result
Great video!
Great video, looking to the same now! Which power supply did you purchase to support your led strips
I linked to meanwell in the description. It seems all the Christmas light guys like meanwell.in the groups from what I've seen. amzn.to/3QTQxJC just be mindful of what voltage your LEDs and controller need. The ESP32 uses 5v but there are versions, that I linked in the description, that can take 5-24 volts.
Great video!! ♥
Damn I didn't know about the RGBW addressable strips, just got a 5m RGB strip to use on each side of our bed with a motion sensor, so white is likely the colour I'll use.
Can this be done with govee led strips ??
Four minutes in, enjoying the content *except* for the music... both the choice and the level. Can you dial it back a bit next time?... or just not use it at all?
Can you tell me what size power supply you used?
Looking to do this to my book shelves.
Hey. Great video.
Can You give me a bit of advice? I'm trying to make stair lighting with individual strips under each treads. I would be more then happy if all strips would be working in parallel. I'm thinking to make one connection running down on one side and instead of chain linking them up I would prefer them in parallel. Would all the strip run from one Data line and if I say I light up LED 5 and 15 would all the strip lite up every
5th and 15th LED?
My other solution is individual Data connections to each strip from one ESP32.
I feel because each strip is about 2 feet I would have less issue with voltage drop like that. My only concern is the data. Thanks in advance for the help.
Does WLED or home assistant work with Alexa so I can pick color presets with my voice? Great video!!!
Both WLED and HA can work with Alexa. You'd have to create a preset and then ask Alexa for the specific preset, but I haven't explored this much, so I could be wrong.
WLED without HA can not load presets via Alexa. Just change colors. you can set a preset to load whenever you turn it on via Alexa.
Thanks for the video !
I just ordered a Shelly RGBW2 and a BTF-LIGHTING FCOB RGBW Flexible Hohe Dichte LED-Streifen FCOB COB RGB+WW (3000K) LED Strip 5M 896LED/M DC24V 16W/M.
I will flash the Shelly with the WLED Software and hopefully it works with all the leds. The Shelly has a ESP8266 2MB flash LED controller.
What do you mean? Does that work with WLED?
what type of led strip did you use?
Excellent video. I used the SK6812 RGBW from BTF-Lighting on AliExpress 60 LED per meter Semiwaterproof. I think that was rating 65? Love it! This made my project so much easier with WAY MORE options than what I had planned. How do I run this as an AP instead of connecting it to my router/WiFi? I see there is an AP mode, I couldn't get it to create an AP. TIA.
WiFi setup > scroll down to "configure access point" > then look for "AP Opens" and select which option you prefer.
can you install wled on a pi 4?
Hi, what gauge wire were you using?
power supply to the strip I believe I'm using 16 and 18 between the strips.
I had issues with the data signal when trying 20 gauge wire
@@BreakItYourself thanks
Sure did Linus not pick the Cheap and open source WLED, because they bring noting on money and sponsorship or affiliated links. so not wonder or blame ppl who do that to get there money for living. :P
Lopez Frank Taylor Maria Clark Timothy
😂 Linus tech tips 😂😂😂 there name itself is hypocrisy 😂😂 overrated they will say anything u like throw money
Yeah. Its called use rgbic instead 😂
Did linus bully you as a kid?
that shelf lighting idea linus came up with is just terrible in every way. i think if i worked for him and he asked me to do that i'd just refuse.
Haha I’m with you. But when he’s paying it would make it easier 😂
Yuck
Gets me every time
Love u guys 🤗
