By far the best acoustic cover of this song!, the Vocals are haunting and painful in a sense. The guitars 🎸 are better than anyone I heard. And this song just reaches inside me, I had a leg amputated and was on morphine for a while, to long, and it no long gave me any pleasure, I just needed it to function. So I can relate to this song, and it’s so true. May anyone fighting addiction keep fighting one day at a time, I like to go from meal to meal, something I learned in the army. God bless you all!
Derek's expression at 2:27 says it all.... This is my favorite version of this song, and I remember my half-uncle whenever I hear it. We lost him when he OD'd at 25, when I was 18, after trying to get clean multiple times. It is a beautiful, haunting song -- and while it always seems to end too soon, and you wish you could call to them and tell them to play another verse -- that's it. That's the point. Music is a powerful drug, one that acts on emotions, and this song conveys those awful emotions my family (and, unfortunately, many thousands of others) experienced better than any other.
It's hauntingly Beautiful and too true... I have lost many people in my life from drugs... I definitely feel Greggs voice puts so much emotion in this song it touches your soul...
Dammit, gives me the chills, everytime I listen to these guys play this song, it could have been written by Gregg, at certain points in his life, amazing.
We all live in a sheltered world i only came across this version just now ,,, i play this myself and thought that only Neil could do it justice ,, now wow! feeling a bit like a dick wad for not knowing about this version from Gregg and Warren and Derek , rest in peace mr blues/soulman , Gregory LeNoir Allman
just curious, does anyone else get angry when people randomly cheer during a song, especially when it gets quiet? how can someone hear such a heartfelt song like this, written about a friend lost to drugs, and their reaction is to yelp and screech? such disrespect to these talented men pouring their hearts out for us
A lot of people view music, and concerts like a big party, they have little musical acumen or innate understanding, so they scream to feel they are being noticed it is like an inability to suspend their own ego, like a mob of jocks at a football match, we all have different ways of showing appreciation, theirs is just very irritating and why I don't attend many concerts these days.
I go to a lot of concerts and it’s getting worse. I think the problem is social media and smart phones. They have given everyone a short attention span and the need to be the center of attention at all times.
What a great voice, loved it for 50 years, thanks GA. I never had the pleasure of seeing Duane, but every time I see and hear Derek, and I don't mean this disrespectfuly to anyone, I just think Duand Allman reincarnate, man can Derek play! And Warren Haynes is massively underrated. A great player, understated but always on the money.
You can definitely see the influence Duane has on Warren and Derek and so many others. I get chills to this day every time I hear the song Free Bird and Ronnie Van Zant dedicates it to Duane
I caught you knockin' at my cellar door I love you, baby, can I have some more Ooh, ooh, the damage done. I hit the city and I lost my band I watched the needle take another man Gone, gone, the damage done. I sing the song because I love the man I know that some of you don't understand Milk-blood to keep from running out. I've seen the needle and the damage done A little part of it in everyone But every junkie's like a settin' sun.
- Milk-blood refers to a heroin shot. Some heroin users fill a syringe with a heroin mixture that has a white (“milk”) colour. Then they stick the needle of the syringe in a vein and pull the plunger to check if they are inside the vein
This song, no matter who does it, always ends about 2:30. Too soon. When I was a kid it was the first chords I taught a guy who went on to be a guitarist for his whole life.
Charlotte Prom Gregg had several years of drug and alcohol addiction. I’d say he related to the song very well and it definitely shined through in his performances. RIP
This song has taken on an even more desperate meaning than ever given the opioid and now fentanyl crisis that has ravaged America. I mean the dope they using now is so vile and cut with things that nobody stands a chance on it
I was at this show, and that song blew me away.........such a heartfelt cover

God Bless You and Good Luck
MR ALLMAN CONTINUES TO SING FROM THE HEART ! RIGHTEOUS !
Quiet desperation. The solo in this version is unbeliveble. Masterpiece.
God bless Gregg Allman's soul. A great musician and missed.
Derek's expression at 2:27 says it all....

"ends too soon".... Too true. That observation kind of adds another level to this tune, doesn't it?

Gregg sings this from his soul. You can hear the pain in his voice.
The acoustics, slide guitar (Derek Trucks is awesome) and singing on this is tremendous! Love Neil Young songs!
When I hear that Neil Young song I get tears in my eyes. Thanks Gregg, Wayne & Derek
You mean Warren?
@@Harpplayer504 Oh sorry, yes!!!
Much love to all My fellow recovering addicts and also prayers for the sick n suffering addicts still in the grips of addiction.
one day at a time, thats all we can do
🙏🙏
Hauntingly beautiful and poignant because he personifies this piece of music.
Oh dear god that was great. Tears in my eyes.
Dammit, gives me the chills, everytime I listen to these guys play this song, it could have been written by Gregg, at certain points in his life, amazing.
Means so much to me! My son! Thank God he's still here.but he went through hell!.
I don't have the words to describe how great this performance was. Greg sings this as only a man who has been there could. incredible.
No one knows better than Greg.
Killer Show and Cover---WOW!!
Gregg just really pours his soul into this; a guy who was there and made it back.
Sounds great
I love this Neil Young song but You! Thanks Gregg, Warren & Derek
Warren, man. Warren.
Holy fuck Derek .. does he even know how phenomenal he is?
so deep, could make a damn chill bump weep ... the real deal
😔thank you BROTHERS,thanks a lot.
A great compliment to Neil Young.
My favourite non Neil Young version of this song. Hands down
Wie großartig ist das denn? Eines der besten Auftritte beim CR-Festival 2013! Ohne großen Firlefanz und Derek Trucks im Hintergrund brilliant!

Yes. It is very disrespectful, especially if they are singing about someone close to them.
"Some of you don't understand" ... right to the cheering crowd

Not in this case
Happy Birthday in Heaven! They must have some band up there.
What a great voice, loved it for 50 years, thanks GA.

omg
Long live Gregg
how powerful
Best rendition perhaps because we know what happened to Greg.
i have 1 young friend left
Yep sitting out side
How do you do a Neil song better than the original? Ask these guys...
You don't do it better.
Just different
Yes I agree 100%, it’s completely disrespectful and if you were fully in the moment of the music you’d not want to miss one note
This song, no matter who does it, always ends about 2:30. Too soon. When I was a kid it was the first chords I taught a guy who went on to be a guitarist for his whole life.
This song has been the beginning of many guitar player's journey-it was like the first song many encounter that has a true heart-level to it!
Might be better than Neil Young's original. Maybe Greg Allman has some personal experience that sings through.
Charlotte Prom maybe?
Charlotte Prom Gregg had several years of drug and alcohol addiction. I’d say he related to the song very well and it definitely shined through in his performances. RIP
marne
Just can't touch Neil Young's vocals.
That was real.
This song has taken on an even more desperate meaning than ever given the opioid and now fentanyl crisis that has ravaged America. I mean the dope they using now is so vile and cut with things that nobody stands a chance on it
