Im enjoying these deep dives. You actually made me dig out Uforb for the first time in 30 years, listened to it tonight on my drive home. I actually never thought 'Movement ' totally hit the mark, although the early b-sides where they stitched late Joy Division with electronics 'Procession' 'Cries & Whispers' is where they pulled that sound off best...imo of course!

Ceremony was one of the last two songs Joy Division wrote-(the other being In a Lonely Place) and is the opening song on the live part of Joy Division's 1981 "Still" album. See - you like Joy Division more than you knew!😃It's one of my favorites too!

I love this album! It's never rated highly likely don't understand why! Great album from the ashes of Joy Division to world domination of New Order! Great dive in 👍
Got the singles and yes Everythings gone green a lost classic!

I was just starting to buy records when Closer came out, and I bought Movement and the first few singles. They still sound good although now not as new and different as they seemed at the time, since so much music has copied what they did. There are electronics but mainly effects from Martin Hannett, but it wasn't until after those records the dance influence changed their sound. They got a lot of attention in the NME etc. at the time because of the Joy Division effect - those records probably sold more after Ian's death and were still in the Indie charts when New Order started releasing records.

I might be alone in this, but Dreams was such a good opener and I felt that they didn’t have a song as good as that on the record (Senses does come close).
I think you have the correct assessment - the singles from this period are the real gems vs. the record itself.
With the reissue of the album came with demos the band cut at Western Works with Cabaret Voltaire producing - haven’t heard yet but super curious!
Great video of an under looked record!
