The Last Great Marvel Comic - Jonathan Hickman's Avengers
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лют 2025
- Due to Marvel Comics' bad business acumen, and their writers not named Donny Cates not putting in the effort, it seems that Jonathan Hickman's Avengers comic may be the last great Marvel Comics story.
It's sort of ironic, considering it was quite literally about the death of Marvel's universe as we knew it.

You know Hickman's Avengers and New Avengers are good when I can't find them in my local comic book store.
Luckily the 2 Omnibuses of his Avengers run have been reprinted last year
Thank you for making this video, Micah. I could not agree with you more in saying that Jonathan Hickman's Avengers run is an absolute gem of a comic.
Jonathan Hickman's Avengers run is, without question, my favorite comic of all time next to Marvel Zombies. Words alone cannot even begin to describe how much I enjoyed this masterpiece, so I'll just say that my Avengers-Verse fanfics are HEAVILY influenced by Jonathan Hickman's Avengers run because I enjoyed it that much (and I'll happily give you a link to what little I've actually put up in regards to my Avengers-Verse fanfics if you're curious).
I loved this run and this story it was so perfectly executed and well done. One of my favorite parts was Thor and Hyperion solo suicide mission...made
Me move both characters so much more...then they fucked up Hyperion again. (I also loved the way Hyperion was reintroduced to the main marvel universe)
Of course the after math of this with the marvel main universe changing so drastically and such i detested and still do....even more so bc I loved this storyline so much
Jonathan Hickman wrote one of the greatest Spider-Man stories ever. (Uncles from his Fantastic Four run)
Hickman wrote none of the best stories of all time but he does know how to suck the fun out of an entire line of books. Look at the mess he made with xmen and krakoa, now marvel is stuck with absolute trash. He ruined fantastic four, he demolished avengers and now he made me HATE AND LOATHE xmen. That takes talent.
I agree with this sentiment. I felt like it was essentially crisis on infinite Marvel, and it was a perfect swan song for the end of the, and it was a perfect swan song for the end of the 616 Marvel Universe. Whatever happened next is some alternate reality
When you say West Coast Avengers I get Vietnam flashbacks of the 2018 release.
Of course it was John Byrne. Who else would write something so specifically fun? Love that guy. 😝🤣
Agree with everything except the greatest team run since Morisson's JLA. Cause to me that would go to Hickman's Fantastic Four run. Like it a tad more than his Avengers. Also really enjoyed Gail Simone's Secret Six.
Hickman should write Marvel Team Up. Give him free reign to do whatever he wants.
Well I missed out on the Omnibus, but this year they are releasing Avengers by Hickman Complete Collection. They will contain both Avengers and New Avengers together, hope the reading order is chronological..
This needed to be said. Definitely the best Avengers run.
Hickman's Fantastic Four and Avengers run were great.
Oh and my personal favourite Marvel team is the Fantastic Four. I loved the Jack Kirby and classic stuff's cosmic scale.
Ben Grimm, Daredevil, Iron Man, Thor, and Spider-Man were my favourite Marvel heroes growing up.
Punisher isn't a "Hero" per se, so I put him in a different category.
his Secret Warriors and Shield are also awesome. Marvel need to bring him back.
I loved Hickman's Avengers, thought I hated how it ended in Iron man betraying Cap. Seemed a little out of character for him, after all that had happend and their awesome friendship. I specially hated Superior Iron man too, felt they were scraping the bottom of the barrel, turning Iron man into another villian like heroes had no real integrity and could just be branwashed with the snap of a finger.
The only flaw I can say about Hickman's avengers is how quickly (which feels oxymoronic to say) he closed the door on Ultimate which while stumbling after ultimates 3 & ultimatum, it was getting on its feet
And fuck yeah Hank Pym! Tigra and him all about that nasty shit and I wish they got to raise William together in peace.
I wonder if the reason Marvel Comics had been doing well in the early 2000's is because of DC's New 52 that alienated many people. It's much like Sony's PS4 outselling the XBoxOne at launch because of Microsoft's screw ups leading up to it's reveal(Remember when #DealWithIt was the worst thing for gamers to put up with?) where they treated it like a glorified cable box.
@Micah Curtis If Hickman was to come back to Marvel who would you like to see him write?
Iron Man, for sure.
Nice one@@BigMicahC, me I would like Jonathan Hickman to reboot Spider-Man. If any thing he should bring back the marage of Peter and Mary Jane.
If Hickman were to come back I want him to take Brevoort or Amanat's position. Imagine what would happen to the stories if Hickman told writers they need to fix their stories.
@@MegaCoyoteFilms Lets voet on it.
Those how vote for Hickman to dethrone Brevoort use this emoji_🤑
Those how vote for Hickman to dethrone Amanat use this emoji_🤬
@@daviddyster4145 Amanat, because at less Brevoort will listen to Hickman and follow.
I would've loved to see Hickman on Legion of Super-Heroes.
This.
Make it Superman & the Legion of Super-Heroes.
Hickman is killing it with Ultimate Spider-Man dude for reals I love it so much
Damnit Micah, premiering when I have work.
Have you read Al Ewing’s Immortal Hulk? Pretty phenomenal. Now that Donny Cates isn’t writing venom anymore, Immortal Hulk is the only monthly comic I’m reading from marvel.
I can only imagine what Jonathan Hickman would have done with the DC Multiverse if Didio had not fucked up the original two-year Rebirth plan.
Jonathan Hickman is back!?
Happy happy joy joy 🎂
*_Happy Happy joy joy_*
Y’know this has given me quite a lot to think about in terms of writing characters and story structure. I hope I can produce some quality work of my own in the near future...
Hey Micah: Is it True that "Fear Itself" Was the LAST Good Event That marvel Did?
I've been wanting to read Infinity for a while now.
If this is the middle of Hickman run, the what's the beginning and end? I'd like to check them out
I can't find a source saying that Peter Ramsey doesn't want conservatives to see Spiderverse. Can you link it to me, would you kindly?
Good video today man!
Oh great, now I have to reread Hickman's Fantastic Four and Avengers runs again...
You say that like it's a bad thing.
This was the first Hickman run I read and I read when it came out and didn’t like it but every said it was good and Hickman is known for his long game so I bought the trades and was not disappointed. Currently going back to read Hickman’s other work like Fantastic 4
You must not know who Al Ewing is
These premier notifications are like torture
Is this gonna be a live stream or a prerecorded video?
@@Hard_Boiled_Entertainment Not sure honestly.
I gotta read Hickman's Avengers all the way through now. I love the lineup too. Hickman was one of the last great writers to work for Marvel. I won't say there are no good Marvel books, but as far as the Marvel Universe as a whole, the Marvel Universe basically died with Secret Wars. I would almost rather Marvel closing shop after that than to go on the way they are with no sign of returning to form.
I was gutted when the omnibuses omitted secret wars...
which Publishing Comic Book Company do you still want to work for? cause with all that is going down Now, I don't care to give my idea or skills, I'll start making my own Comics, or Graphic Novels, Print it up myself, Open a you-tube, show the work, make your own characters, Make your own Universe your own continuity series, Not giving up My integrity so MARVEL & DC can take my characters, they make money so later on they can get rid of my character ,I can't use him, unless I give them my Soul.
No way out? 😂 Convergence? 😂
I recently read this run this month. I recently got into more marvel stuff with starting with Hick's FF, there were times that I felt like were underwhelming but it was good enough to get me to read his avengers.
His avengers run on the other hand , while it had good themes, it felt very decompressed. And at points it felt like it was Grant Morrison gone wrong (especially with infinity). But secret wars was the biggest disapointment, since only the first issue really worked with anything the two book lead up to. Then it just meanders for 8 issue. I'll say this at least it gives a satisfying ending to the FF for that time, but the Doomwank in SW was pretty bad.
Even though I dislike this run, I'll say it's better that a lot of New marvel stuff, probably the last great marvel epic
You ever watch that movie chronicle
Michelinie and JMS are some of the best Spidey runs ? Now we're talking ! XD www.deviantart.com/devilkais/art/Web-head-s-Wedding-545027973 www.deviantart.com/devilkais/art/Arachnid-s-Last-Piece-546779154
As for the Avengers , I dig the Busiek run (Kang's dynasty was just chilling), the Harras/Epting run (Galactic Storm was good BUT the gatherers storyline was fantastic !) and Johns run (for reasons you've indicated...)
Not a fan of Hickman's stuff aside from the concept...
I had been losing interest in Marvel for years, because of the growing SJW influences, so Secret Wars felt like the perfect jumping off point for me. I thought it was a little silly to have Franklin Richards basically recreate the Marvel Universe at the end, but that might actually allow them to explain why things got so stupid afterwards in a future retconn (if Marvel can even be salvaged at this point). I held out for the X-Men for a little bit after Secret Wars, hoping things would get better, but eventually took them off of my pull list as well. Other than a few issues of Venom (which I did enjoy, but haven't been keeping up with regularly), I haven't bought a Marvel comic in almost a year.
I havent bought ANY Marvel for ages..I Did Get "Marvel Now" Ms Marvel books but then i droped Marvel..But i am GONNA get Jason Aaron`s AVENGERS book because it really does seem free(ish) of SJW bs
Apparently so are Venom and Spiderman, if Micah's reviews are any indication.
Don't put your faith on Jason Aaron's Avengers too high, remember that he did a great first run in Thor with the God Butcher arc to follow it with SJW She-Thor.
@@DrLynch2009 Atleast Now i am willing to get marvel..i know that the New Avengers book have a Creepy dude trying to hit on Jennifer part that is a bit Soc Jus but otherwise it looks good and even Carol looks good in it
@@Hard_Boiled_Entertainment Yeah Zsadarsky one? tho i heard that he is leaving marvel so Spidey might be getting Gringy again..Venom seems to have good SJW free plot too.
I hve watched a lot of Comic Book Reviewrs in YT so i kinda know what to get and what not
@@trainerredcharizard7982 Well, whichever one brought back Mary Jane.
Before the hardcore progressives tainted Stan Lee's and Jack Kirby's work
No one who says sucking face needs to worry about having time for girlfriends
Red zone was amazing
The last great Marvel comic?! Immortal Hulk, Cates’s Venom. So many recent comics that are better than Hickmans Avengers. Hickmans Avengers is great but it’s certainly not the “last great Marvel comic”
I like Al Ewing’s Hulk
14:22 Which is exactly what Zack Snyder has done for Superman in Man of Steel and BvS Ultimate Edition--TEST him, put him through the emotional wringer. I always liked Superman, but those films helped me emotionally CONNECT with him like I never had before.
Honestly, it happens a lot in the 86-99 comics and the animated series... I mean the final episodes were pretty much "Clark loses..."
@@saidi7975 Yep, and MoS effectively steered me in the direction of those gems.
I HATE what hickman (id also blame bendis for alot) did to marvel. EVERY title he touches is reduced do a drawn out, depressing mess. I dont care if you end up liking his work, people do. But there is zero fun in a JH book, none. I read for fun, i dont need a 900 issue run that weaves in and out of 12 books for 10 years building on a subplot hinted at in one panel 100 issues ago. I hate that the avengers and xmen and FF books all had ALL the fun sucked from them. I hate it. I hate the style, i hate what it did to the line and what it did to me as a reader. Im done. Bendis is another story but im also done. Aarons avengers run is probably the worst of all time but i hate it for other reasons. Lets try making flaghip titles fun again (yes i will always say FF is a tent pole of the marvel universe and if someone disagrees i dont really care)
you didn't think his ff run was fun?
