I'm sorry man, but while there are several vehicles in this video that are truly doozies, the majority of these cars are actually dripping with 80s style awesomeness, and always have been. Many of them are even quite sought-after now by enthusiasts.

Hahaha!! Rhett, your commentary on these ugly cars is hilarious!! 😂Looking back this may have been the reason why I either walked everywhere or bummed rides from people with much cooler cars, LOL!! My son has an Alfa Romeo, but it's much more sportier than what the 80s tried to offer. Thanks, Rhett. I had a good belly laugh with this one. 😂😂

Which of these cars qualifies as ugly? alright, there's a few outliers, but most are utterly generic European or North American vehicles of their time. Is the Panda really that worse than the R5? Don't they all look the same today?

The Lincoln Mark VII is a beautiful car. I owned a 1985 LSC and loved it. The “chrome overhangs” are called “bumpers”. They actually prevented the bodywork from being damaged in low speed collisions unlike todays plastic bumper covers which fall off when hit and cost $1500 and up to replace.

In college, I dated a girl that drove the Subaru XT and one night, the entire dashboard started blinking on and off. Luckily, the headlights stayed on. And the Nissan Pulsar NX was not only ugly, but also very unreliable, as were most of the cars on this list.....especially, especially the Yugo. Also in college, my roommate had his car stolen, and he used the insurance money to buy a Yugo, thinking if he bought a new car it would get him through the rest of college without needing repairs, and the Yugo was the only new car he could afford. The damn thing literally fell apart in the first year.

Every electronic thing in that car failed, including the pop up headlights that we had to put pieces of wood under to prop up. It's swan song was a road trip to Toronto and the engine started smoking on the highway on the way back. We were 19, fresh new fake IDs in our wallets, and stoned out out of our gourds and just wanted to get past the border check and home so we kept driving. Thank you for watching Tammie. I'm curious how long their cars lasted?

@@RhettyforHistory I don't remember any major problems/breakdown. Once the 90's rolled in grandma wanted a mini truck like all the young'uns so she traded it in. I think mom's got repoed to be honest. She ended up with a car from another family member. The 80's and 90's were rough on mom😔 But really they weren't awful cars, cheap and they got from A to B👍

many of these so called ugly cars were designed for fuel efficiency not looks and the Bustle back Seville was a beautiful car and generally the Seville is actually Cadillac's 2nd best selling model selling almost 1,000,000 units in a 29 yr production life the only model that sold more was the Deville which sold 5.3 million in 46 years. as for the Tercel it was called the turd Cel because it was ugly and underpowered 65 HP from a 1.3 L 4 Cylinder engine hell even my moms 1988 Subaru XT Turbo had more than double the horsepower of the Tercel or a 1990 Toyota Camry 4 Cylinder which had 115 HP

Nailed it! The Monte Carlo's were a great looking car until they did that thing with the rear window. The 80s also had some great looking cars. I had a '82 Toyota Supra and an '82 Mazda RX-7 and I still love the looks of both.

I really loved those Monte Carlo's but I was not a fan of the extra glass. I didn't understand why they ever thought that was good. I loved those 80s Supras and RX-7s. Thank you for watching Eric!

You are totally wrong with the Fiat Panda (🐼). In reality this first model was an extremely good little car, simple and very basic but also practical in many details. For example, the front grill was on the left or the right side because one engine (2 cyl.) was air-cooled, the other (4 cyl ) water cooled. In Italy was really a big success. And, last but not least, the designer... Giorgetto Giugiaro.

IMO, the closest that any car manufacturer got to producing a car to replace the original Mini.

Minus the optional rear cap, the Nissan Pulsar NX was actually one of the better looking cars to come out of the 80s.

Mitsubishi L300 Delica Van ( Sold as Cosmos here in Sweden ) would be my choice, it was terrible, as was the Toyota Van ( Space cruiser in the Uk , Model F here in Sweden ) ugliest vans of the 80:s.
The Alfa Romeo Milano ( 75 ) had a V6 engine from the gods, the sound of that Busso V6 was heaven like ❤

Many of us often write about "the good old days" and "those were the times back then" and such, in the comment section. However, we have to admit that sometimes change is good....😂

Cool video! I remember all of those vehicles! I still have a 1989 Merkur XR4Ti and 1988 Saab 900 turbo. Yeah! Heck yeah!

The car designs were one of the few things I did not like growing up in the 80’s. The 70’s and 90’s cars were better looking as a whole. I don’t know what happened in the 80’s.
