I have a Jamo 5.1 system and it works for our townhouse, I have been upgrading slowly and it has been a good journey. You don't need a lot like a denon S760H for 400 or less and a good 5.1, then work your way up from there. Having a receiver and speakers helps get you into the movies more then just a soundbar
I bought my first audio component system in 1974, 50 years ago. I’ve kept up with technology over the years because it’s my passion. Lots of people have hobbies they are passionate about, and at different levels depending on disposable income. And some people are intimidated by all the variables with the av hobby. Do your research, ask hobbiests, just have fun.
Definitely! I’ve been in it my whole life and certainly open myself to anyone wanting to get into the hobby with many gatherings for any level hobbyists, it’s the community that helps make this hobby great!

Truly humble guy, love your rtj setup they are truly endgame. I can't afford them but interested in the setup, apart from the speakers what else do you need?? I know the subs come with amps but as there for the installer are they a lot more tricky for the average guy to setup??
I set them up myself, I had to get an amp to power the mids & highs, and also added a pre-amp and high def music streamer. I did all my eq through Dirac. I certainly appreciate the kind words and support!
I have a suggestion. Purchase the best 2.1 or 2.2 system that you can afford with a TV. Put your money in buying the best sub and speakers. Spend your money in this order: sub, speakers, receiver, TV. Then grow the system if desired in the future.
Certainly many ways to approach it! And that’s a great suggestion! Just want people to know you can get into enjoying this hobby and not spend thousands!

You can get into the hobby spending pretty minimal money. Used Pioneer elite 4k avr can be had for 600 bucks, 350 for a screen, 700-1k for a projector, couple k for a couple of solid 15 inch powered subs... speakers?????? however cheap you want to go. But I choke at the thought of spending 15k on a projector. My wife and I do well, I could do it, but there is just no way I would do it. I just upgraded Pioneer Elite sc-79 which retailed at 3k when new, I bought a "Used," Pioneer Elite sc-lx901 that was also about 3k (Retail) when new for 600 dollars. Thing looked brand new and performs flawlessly. I just refuse to buy receivers new. So good advice for a new person to buy used! I bought 7,500 worth of Mirage speakers for about 2,500 10 years ago.. I love my speakers.
Certainly very true, one of the biggest things we discuss at get togethers especially with people wanting to get in the hobby is it can be done for a lot lower amount than people think. It’s a great community to be a part of I try my best to recruit 😂
This hobby is expensive. As you grow into, your tastes for the better experiences grows. It really depends on your desire and disposal income on how far you go. If you are fine with the entry level experience, that is perfectly fine. Some want to keep going until they are satisfied with the experience on a daily basis.
Very true! Definitely many levels to this hobby, cost of entry can be more inviting than some people think and I like people to know you can really start enjoying a better experience for a lower cost of entry. How far you want to push the envelope is certainly a different taste for Everyone and the sky is the limit!
