Guys like Him and Gable are so important to the roots of professional wrestling , guys like them make fans like me know that you can call the shows “scripted “ or whatever you want to say , but there is no way anyone can ever say what they do is fake or doesn’t evolve massive amounts of talent and skill in so many different forms and styles that average people have no clue just how great they are. Honestly Shelton makes it possible for Gable to make a massive amount of money and be up on the top year of the card , Creed brothers are next up in that cycle and they all can thank guys like MVP and Shelton ( one of the most talented Superstars ito ever grace the ring). I feel like Shelton shined at the wrong time , with Vince in charge he was looking for buff muscles to make the audience believe the dumb idea of he most be tough if he’s that big kinda Stigma , Triple H and HBK have repeatedly been quoted saying how great Gable is and want him around forever in a major role in WWE. Sometimes timing is everything and unfortunately because Shelton is not 6’7 300 pounds so right away Vince sees him as a mid Carder , where Triple H sees the Gable and Mello and Creed Brothers are doing now as great work because Shelton laid that foundation. Side note : I COLLECT WWE ULTIMATE EDITIONS AND ELITES ( I have been collecting moc again for about 2.5 years and have accumulated a massive collection ( of course it’s nothing compared to some of yal collections on you tube, but it’s mine an d I’ve Got over 16k insured on my current collection.) I said all that to say th e Ruthless aggression Sheldon came out ( of course it’s a Walmart exclusive, all us die hard collectors know how horrible Walmart is to stock there reg figs and especially exclusive figs.) I usually refuse to pay the mark up but when Shelton hit for 39 plus shipping on secondary market when it was brand new I had to do it ( thankfully I did because I got both ruthless Brock’s , Eddie and Rey ultimate as well as the RVD one ( all the Walmart exclusives I needed , 4 ultimate edition, all 4 ridiculous secondary market, my favorite 2 ruthless aggression elites Shelton and Brock all for 190 shipped , 35 a piece on the U.E. 50 for the 2 elites and shipping!!!! Was so happy to get a good elite Shelton , I want many more but this rare ruthless one atleast to my area was a fig I was beyond grateful for as well as super stoked to have a Shelton in my collection!!!! Love peace and prosperity to all you on your journeys
Shelton was incredible, and yes way too nice. I was fortunate enough to meet him multiple times during his OVW days, dude was humble as can be. I told him he would be in WWF one day, and he acted as if he wasn’t good enough. While at the time being leagues above everyone he was training with. Would have loved to see him team with Brock in WWE and have Heyman being his mouthpiece as well. Could have been magic, and definitely could have put him in the main event scene. I think if Brock hadn’t left so quickly, this likely would have happened.
It’s a shame the new generation won’t truly understand how damn good this man was. He was a beasttttt when he was young with those IC title runs. But gold standard Shelton…. My god was he amazing to watch, and a good promo too. He should at least be a 1 time world champ
My friends and I were such huge Shelton Benjamin fans. When he debuted the Gold Standard I thought that gimmick was wwe title worthy. Crazy how Shelton Is one of the most jacked guys around now and was "smaller" then
All Shelton was missing was great mic work. He had the skills & the aura. He just needed to sell himself in a promo and he never quite pulled that off.
I feel for Shelton Benjamin, I made a similar mistake: during football practice I failed to understand the purpose of drills. Despite being the hardest to tackle and the fastest on the team I only did as I was asked and only showcased what I was made of when practice ended there were no coach so I'd run harder and faster. Even in the games when I was put in I'd make a play...but by the time the coaches seen my potential my season was over and never played organized football again.
Shelton, you will always be the event that stole the show with amazing wrestlers which set a gold standard I feel. Rvd, Morrison, Mvp, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Carlito, Ric Flair,Kofi, Rtruth etc. With Team Angle, Hurt Business, ladder matches and titles of tag and us and ic titles will be my forever classics as well as those and more wrestlers.
“Thinking your work should speak for itself” is a very risky train of thought and more often than not will let you down, in any profession. That said, not every great athlete in WWE is gonna be a top guy. I’d still say he had a pretty good career.
I remember seeing matches of him vs HHH and it was amazing to see; very close to get a win; he would be able to still the show on PPVs. Lots of little guys/ midcarder made it to the big screens such as Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit to name just them; if they could have, so should he. Also it shows that being nice and waiting for opportunities to just fall off the sky doesn't always help. Do like Christian and Moxley did, go elsewhere where you are appreciated, built your market value, come back if you decide to, on your own terms #underrated
Yup I agree, too nice! He had fans but not global fans to put him a champion. His size wasn’t the issue cause Rey is only 5’3” and he is a 3 time champion and royal rumble winner!
I believe him, John Morrison, Cesaro, and Dolph Ziggler can all fall into this category. In ring work and look are through the roof but they didn’t come up with a persona that jumps off the screen nor had the mic skills to connect in the right way to the audience. Shelton needed a talker that fit but a guy like him shouldn’t have a talker. If you’re a monster you should have a talker but if you’re a guy his size you have to hold your own. With a faction like NOD, the Hurt Business, etc. he could’ve gotten over better or maybe even MVP as his manager but other than that he just didn’t have the mic skills or personality to hold him over. He could’ve gotten a couple of transitional runs here and there but if he could’ve improved on this he had main event mania potential.
I swear man if he would have left in his prime and signed to TNA or NWA being a world champion in those companies and came back to WWE he would have been a world champion in WWE honestly
If my memory is correct, his first night on Raw he had a match with Triple H. A match where he was 🤏🏾 that close to beating him. & then he had that awesome match with Shawn however long after. Matches like that with talent like that should help elevate a guy. Especially when you have JR on commentary every single week calling Shelton the best pure athlete in the business.
Let's be honest, he came up at the same time as Brock, Batista, Orton, and Cena, while at the same time, Taker, HHH, HBK, Rey, Eddie, Benoit, Angle etc. Were still active. Not to mention Shield coming, CM Punk, Lashley being really that good. Shelton was great, but like he said, he didn't stand out enough.
They had 2 golden opportunities to push Benjamin to main event status... when he popped up on Raw after the draft freshly delving into singles competition and had that mini feud with HHH as the upstart who made a major upset... BANG! there's his shot but they didn't take it god knows why... Then he had his gold standard phase later on in his career and had a very underrated mini feud with Taker on Smackdown and could have easily made a huge push from there... Alot of decent stars like Shelton will shine in the ring but without that 'larger then life' personality (or the look that vince craved) you weren't getting in and I feel like if Heyman had worked with Shelton and helped him with his promo work combine that with his natural ability in the ring and BAM! Top tier star right there no questions asked.
Ah, I dunno bout Heyman being this magic wand. Shelton was good for who he was. Didn't need to be much more. He just didn't show that ruthless assholery, which is viewed as ambition.

Benjamin was such an under rated guy. He was just as good as the beat of them. He deserved higher tier status.
Shelton Benjamin is so underrated, he should have been pushed to the top in his WWE career
Man if he was a different shade he would’ve gotten that push. Excellent performer, highly underrated.
Maybe if he had some charisma and an actual character
He's definitely one of the most underrated wrestlers of all time
Shelton was incredible, and yes way too nice.
Young people, learn this lesson, it's very important
This match deserves even more credit than it gets. Nic and Ali are awesome.
Shelton Benjamin is one of my favorite wrestlers. When I used to play wrestle. I always did his super kick instead of Shawn Michaels as my finisher .
Probably the most underrated wrestler of all time
He was great wrestler who WWE undervalued..In my mind he is GOATED
It’s all about promo and charisma and getting that charisma across in a promo
It’s a shame the new generation won’t truly understand how damn good this man was. He was a beasttttt when he was young with those IC title runs. But gold standard Shelton…. My god was he amazing to watch, and a good promo too. He should at least be a 1 time world champ
Shelton and ziggler .. the most underrated and underutilized WWE stars.
My friends and I were such huge Shelton Benjamin fans. When he debuted the Gold Standard I thought that gimmick was wwe title worthy. Crazy how Shelton Is one of the most jacked guys around now and was "smaller" then
I really enjoyed his work. It's a damn shame that he never won the WWE championship.
Shelton have a great mind and understanding for the buisiness and should have a front office role in wwe
He's like Dean Malenko, truly underrated. Great performers, in ring style, & characters. But never got that chance even when they were at their prime.
All Shelton was missing was great mic work. He had the skills & the aura. He just needed to sell himself in a promo and he never quite pulled that off.
O'burg, SC stand up 4 yur boy ... U made da state proud!!!
To the fans his work spoke volumes. One of the greatest and most underrated athletes to ever lace up a pair of boots ❤
The only wrestler i know to get Lesnar's seal of approval. The streets will never forget uncle Shelton
I kept saying for years.Shelton benjamin had so much potential.
What the company valued yet I was waiting for an awesome spot from Sheldon every time I watched him wrestle
That's life for you. It's never a meritocracy. It's always a game of who can market themselves the best.
He is so understand like for real he deserve a lot
Shelton, you will always be the event that stole the show with amazing wrestlers which set a gold standard I feel. Rvd, Morrison, Mvp, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Carlito, Ric Flair,Kofi, Rtruth etc. With Team Angle, Hurt Business, ladder matches and titles of tag and us and ic titles will be my forever classics as well as those and more wrestlers.
He was under rated and was a beast!
His generation's Curt Hennig. Man can outshine anyone on the roster but never buried anyone.
Do like Christian and Moxley did, go elsewhere where you are appreciated, built your market value, come back if you decide to, on your own terms
#underrated
Shout out Shelton Benjamin, he was a great wrestler 😎 he had the athleticism and his matches were entertaining.
Yup I agree, too nice! He had fans but not global fans to put him a champion. His size wasn’t the issue cause Rey is only 5’3” and he is a 3 time champion and royal rumble winner!
SHELTON BENJAMIN AND RVD ARE EASILY THE MOST GIFTED ATHLETES IN THE WWE EVER 🔥🔥🔥💪🏿
Shelton's own pride held him back, shame he had so much potential, hell I'd say the guy probably still has one good run still left in him.
He was before his time imo if he was in his prime today he would be a top star
Most underrated wrestler ever, him and Kofi should've been tag Champs
Dude was Legit 💪🏿 I always thought he should have been Bigger
I swear man if he would have left in his prime and signed to TNA or NWA being a world champion in those companies and came back to WWE he would have been a world champion in WWE honestly
Dolph ziggler and Shelton Benjamin are definitely 2 of the most talented guys that were squandered by the system
One of the best in ring workers ever.
Shelton really was a great wrestler when I think back to them days he put on so many good matches
Shelton is a legend in my opinion what he brought to the show did a lot even though he wasn't one of the top wrestlers at the time.
I’m 34, and he was one of my favorites He was op on the game too. Lol 😅😮💨🔥🔥
Love his honesty
One of the best wrestlers in wwe
If Shelton was at his peak in this present era, he would easily be the WWE or World Heavyweight Champion.
Extremely underrated
One of the most underrated longevity wrestlers.
If prime Shelton was in this era/generation he'd thrive 💯
I remember to used to like this guy because of his athleticism and his appearance.
Shelton was is easily one of the best guys going, should have had a big push for sure
