In the age of social media it’s amazing to me that Taboo Tuesday/Cyber Sunday or Fan Appreciation Night haven’t been brought back or used more frequently. Especially in NXT. NXT has been reviving old shows or being a testing ground for gimmick matches that are eventually used on the main roster.
I think it's a matter of statistics, at least at that time, casual fans were not highly interested in buying a PPV without knowing the exact opponents or to a less extent the match type and stipulation.
In my opinion, these hurt the PPV build-up.
no one believed the outcome, every vote became a tin foil hat "it was a work anyways" our vote never mattered.which was true because Wresting is and always will be booked

Honestly it's odd how the main roster aren't capitalising on bringing back old ppvs like Armageddon or No Mercy and stick with the bland and boring ones like Payback or Fastlane. I agree with you the Internet now is more developed plus they don't have to worry about ppv buyrates anymore so it would work

Shelton is seriously one of the most solid, talented wrestlers I've seen. Pure skill, no BS.
The fact that Shelton benjamin got chosen over Batista at time (Batista who by the way was paired with triple h & evolution & was starting to slowly turn against triple h & have fans root for him) just show you how popular Shelton was back in 2004. Wwe really dropped the ball on him they should really capalized off him like how they did when he had that hot run for those few weeks when he was first drafted to raw & pinned triple h.
Yeah, but then again. Shelton Benjamin has beaten Triple H 3x about half a year before this event happened, even during his reign of terror days, so Shelton already has gotten a pretty big push that year, so i'd imagine that credible reputation was still holding strong.
That’s why I don’t understand people who say he wasn’t over with the fans because he didn’t have John Cena level mic skills he still had charisma and his skills spoke for itself his matches were usually very entertaining fast paced and athletic Shelton should’ve won the World title at least once imo
Batista was still a generic big man when Taboo Tuesday happened the slow burn between HHH/Batista started the following month leading up to Survivor Series.

Yeah especially doing dives and stuff. Like man. That stuff Shelton did is not easy at all to pull off.
That's how wrestling was always done by veterans. The match is called in the ring by the one with the most experience

That's got to be clearly his number. One moment I was surprised they picked him to be Chris Jericho's Challenger for the intercontinental championship and I was so happy he won it!! He is a very underrated intercontinental champion. I loved his matches with Randy Orton and Chris Jericho over the title. It's unfortunate they didn't know what to do with this man
To everyone asking if the results on these shows are real, they have to be. As a result of the quiz show scandals, it's against federal law to manipulate a television poll.
There was a viewer's choice episode of Raw where they experienced an issue with the results not clearing from the previous match which caused them to have to go back the following week and book the matches that _should_ have won. Oddly, the most surprising result, where Kelly Kelly was chosen to face off for the Diva's title (which she won) was the only vote that wasn't corrupted since it was first vote of the night. This whole debacle (the technical issue, not Kelly Kelly becoming Diva's champ) may explain why they don't hold this event anymore.
I just went and watched this match. Its a master class. Jericho is up there for the goat imo. The only spot i could see him call was the baseball slide. Iykyk but the camera caught that one. When 2 good workers have chemistry its great to watch. This match would never happen in wwe today, and its a lost art. Great match great story

Going back watching that match with Jericho, you see Jerichos got a slight smirk before the lock up lol. He knew this was gonna be not only something special of a match, but that he was giving Shelton a rub, giving him his first big win as a singles competitor.. Chris was already happy for Shelton…Shelton not knowing what was coming, that’s awesome
I'm pretty sure Shelton's first big singles win was against HHH on RAW
By Taboo Tuesday Shelton already had wins over HHH and Flair so Id hardly call that his "first big win"

Tbh he doesn't. His time has passed. He should have gotten one before, but he didn't. It's passed Shelton's prime. Now he should leave it to the younger guys.
Not every guy who worked in the industry for over 20 years automatically deserves a world title as a thank you. Not everybody is Kofi Kingston.

When i think of the IC title, i automatically think of Shelton, probably because the RA era was the last time i watched WWE properly.

Yeah it was real I'm trying to think when this happened probably 2011? But they did something with voting in 2011 on raw and somehow the votes got glitched and Mason Ryan was voted into the match

@@Pelaquas I just edited my comment I was talking about how on raw in 2011 the voting got messed up. But the voting for Taboo Tuesday/Cyber Sunday was from 04-08
It would be nice to have those types of shows back especially with online focused we all are. The people don't have to win. Just would be nice to be able to vote for people we want to see or haven't seen in a while. Plus it might be fun for the wrestlers to go against people they aren't familiar with.
re-watched that match and chris called all the moves, it was awesome. Shelton was able to react to all of it too.

listening to this I cant help myself but think about modern wrestlers and how many of them would fuck up and ruin that match. wrestlers these days like to plan most of the match and do complicated shit. Shelton and Jericho are the true pros.

I remember voting for Shelton with no hesitation. He was so over at the time & still is. I don't get why WWE was so surprised that he won by a landslide.
Jericho and Benjamin are some of the few superstars who could pull off an impromptu match like that
Bro I just watched his match last night on peakock tv. I have it free right now cuz of Xfinity but I am watching it as an adult now and man I was entertained by his fight and the whole show is entertaining especially after a few bowls. Kanes fight was sick and the divas were entertaining too. I could see now why I loved WWE when I was young. I haven’t watched WWE in about 11 years I would say. Maybe I should give it a try again. I just hope peakock tv puts on more classic WWE shows of the past cuz I’m hooked again
I always wondered if Tabboo Tuesday was really up to the fans or if Vince just said it was
I believe it was all truly put to the fans' vote, even if WWE was planning for a particular outcome. No other match in the Taboo Tuesday / Cyber Sunday PPV's had as many options. It's easier to sway the audience a particular way with only a few options versus the 15 that Jericho had to consider. Even if the voting didn't really go how WWE had hoped it would, it's still easier to work around only a couple other opponents instead of who was actually in mind.

That's the way they should do it on every title change, not them know they're gonna win. That way we see a legit reaction to them winning it
I love Shelton being humble but not gonna lie I was watching WWE at that time and out of everyone they showed Shelton was the obvious choice because he was the biggest fan favorite. Now Batista got a great pop from the fans at that years Summerslam but historically Toronto has been a hard to read crowd. Rock and Hogan, they boo Rock and chear Hogan, Hollywood Hogan mind you. Jerry Lawler coined then bizarro land at that point. Post 04 Survivor Series the audience was starting to vibe with Batista.
I wish that like how McIntyre and Lashley can come back and get main event pushes, I still hold out hope Benjamin gets a shot before it's too late.

Maybe the reason why Shelton won the vote is because he was the defacto babyface in the choices since Batista was still a heel and the casual viewers voted for the popular good guy in the pool.

Dumb they couldn't decide if there was a vote and they wouldn't have been busted cause they would have seen to the app. Shelton Benjamin, you did nothing!? You beat Chris Jericho and for the intercontinental title and that year you beat Triple H too but obviously you could have defended Harley Race but when the spit was gave by Randy Orton but you couldn't beat the 🐐 and for the intercontinental. It's a shame that when you had to push faster the accelerator you dropped, you beat Chris Jericho and beat otger greats to retain the intercontinental title but you lost it, cheated by Carlito who is known to spit 🍎🍏 and you did the same for the 🇺🇸 title 3 years later, beat MVP who was the longest 🇺🇸 champion but you lost it against Matt Hardy which is the only single title he held in WWE and you beat better men to retain it
I wish WWE brought back Taboo Tuesday. Obviously not on Tuesdays though. The results would definitely be crazy because you know for a fat people will vote for superstars you would never expect.
