I was trying to learn about this smart key technology and found your video. Thanks for such a comprehensive review. I know know not to fiddle with the smart key technology or Kwikset for that matter. I'll be buying the Schlage.
I have a rental house, and I honestly prefer the Kwikset for that. The house has been broken into in the past and they just kick the door in. Even with a deadbolt, this is the case No one takes the time to drill out the locks, they just kick the door in. Locks only stop people from casual entry. If they want in, they will get in.
I just changed the locks on my house and had trouble deciding between these two (basically the only brands that my Lowe's had in stock.) Glad now that I went with the Schlage.
Us knife makers drill 60+ Hrc steel all the time, granted I use seriously high end solid carbide drills for that purpose. Said drill bits can cost at least 3 times what the schlage deadbolt costs lol
do you have a suggestion for a landlord looking to do locks on all buildings and who likely needs re-keying and possibly single master key accessibility? thanks

Ive Been a Professional Locksmith for 37 plus years,Kwikset Smartkey Drill Proof My Arse,I can Plow a Drill Straight through that lock like a Hot Knife through Butter!!! Yea Dicast,Plastic,Pot Metal,Hollow Deadbolt Latch!!! Kwikset Smartkey Piece of Dog Shite,now the Schlege Bluedog is a whole Different Horse of another color!!! Excellent Lock system all in all,Except for its still made in Mexico and im not too Thrilled about the Quality of the products that come out of there at all!!! I can Defete a Kwikset Smartkey in less then 30 Secons,take your HPC 1200 CM Or CMB use the Proper card C31 and cut the 1st key to Max Depth all the way 1 cut at a time of course!!! You can cut it to a 6 Or 7 cut depending on what you want to do?? lubricate the Lock,clamp on Visegrips to the cut Key and Turn Like it a Functioning key!!! 60 to 70 present of the lock you do this to will FAIL and FAIL Big time!! I am a hobby picker..... just picked a gen 3 smartkey... it was hard but once I learned the tricks I to it it's not hard at all.... also agree on the rekey failures..... that sucker is complicated on the inside and lots of ways to malfunction
