  • Subscriber “Sam” sent me a mail telling me about his challenges getting the NEW FIRMWARE 1.0.5 UPGRADE successfully done on his Hasselblad X2D 100C. So I started myself to experiment and found there is only one way to get this right.
    What’s NOT working:
    - Upgrade via newest Phocus 3.7 Software
    - Upgrade via Phocus Mobile 2.0
    - Upgrade via firmware file on X2D SSD
    In the video I show live that these three ways are NOT successful.
    Of course, I also show HOW TO SUCCESSFULLY UPGRADE the X2D 100C.

    I'm not sure why you would want to release the battery and reinsert it to check the battery level when all you need to do is lightly press the on/off button when the camera is switched off.

      Thanks Olaf, it depends on the unit you got. On my unit it really did not work but there might be other units where it works. With the new firmware and from now on it will work on all up-to-date units.

    I just recently completed the firmware update successfully using Hasselblad's supplied USB-C 3 cable to copy the 1.0.5 camera firmware from my PacBook Pro to the X2D 100's internal memory, and it worked flawlessly. (I do not yet even own a CF Express Type B card).
    An issue you might have run into here in your attempt in filming this video, is that you have to be sure there is no CF Express card in the camera the entire time that you do it this way.
    I believe if there is a card present, the camera only looks there for a firmware file, it does not also check the internal memory. When there is no card present, it reads the always present internal memory, and find does the firmware file and updates exactly as expected.
    I also updated the firmware of my 90mm XCD lens using the USB-C cable to copy that file to the camera's internal memory, and that worked without issue as well.
    I noticed that the owner's manual does not specifically warn you about this, but it seems to be a likely reason that I had no problems of the type you illustrate here.

      Thanks guys, my X2D just completely refused to accept the firmware upgrade file on the SSD, I tried three times. But it seems to depend on the unit you got. Hasselblad in the notes on the firmware upgrade to version 1.0.5 speaks about "some users" ... I seem to be one of them. With the card in the way I showed it finally worked but glad to hear that not all users had these hassles.

    Hi Math,
    As you well know there are hundreds of settings you can change on the X2D.
    Have you ever made a video explaining all these possible settings along with your recommendations for setting up your new camera, would be a lot of work but very useful to new owners.

    Maybe there is something going on with Phocus-which I don't use. I was successful without a CFE card by simply downloading the file to my Mac mini and transferred the file to the X2D solid state drive via the USB cable, and the upgrade worked just fine. Hope this helps!

      i couldnt as well, that if you mean internal ssd. I had to use the cf type B. i suspect it may be something with macos ventura. Saw an issue with another program and they recommended not using ventura. Something with m1or ventura(or may be older versions too) may be the culprit.

    • @RamonVaqueroImage

    The new X2D does not have a Remote Cable capability. The only way is to use your iPad/iPhone for remote shutter release. How are you liking it? I think that is a big mistake on Hasselblad. They should come out with a USBC remote cable.

    • @RogerGaloubet
      @RogerGaloubet Рік тому +1

      Agreed. But perhaps there already is a remote cable capability via the USB-C port only no one has yet been brave enough to connect up a release button. Remember when the X1D first came out there was no remote capability until some guy did some experimenting. A few months later Hasselblad came out with a remote release cable. Fancy an experiment?

    Thank you for this very informative video on how to update the firmware. I received my X2D100c lightweight portrait set this week and with your instructions i was able to succesfully update the firmware on the X2d100c and the 45P lens. This camera is incredible.
    I do have one question and maybe you can awnser that. Is there a way to close the aperture to the working value to see the change in depth of field. On all my analog camera's including my CM501 i can close the aperture from full opening to the value at wich it is set so i can see the difference in depth of field from the set value compared to the full opening. Until now i have not been able to find the button or option to do this on the X2D. ALso i have not red this in the manual that i downloaded from the Hasselblad website.
    Kind regards

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  Рік тому +1

      Yes Gerard, there is a setting. In my recent video ua-cam.com/video/bH0lRChKKSg/v-deo.html you find a detailed tutorial how to customize buttons. Now let's say you want your DoF-Preview to be on the bottom front button. Then you go in the menu to "custom buttons" under "settings" and choose the button in the first line of options and select in the menu you get when tapping on it "DoF Preview". Then, whenever you push the bottom front button, the effect of your working aperture is shown in live view.

    Hi @mathphotographer, can I get your opinion on X2D vs H6D-100c? Does the image quality from X2D live up to the H6D? I understand sensor size differences will, or should play a role.

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  Рік тому

      I will work on a video comparing the two cameras in Q2-2023. But what I can tell you already is that the only real advantage of the H6D-100c besides sensor size is a feature called "True Focus" which enables the H6D to focus with the center, recompose the scene and focus will be automatically calculated to stay sharp on the original focus point based on the camera's sensors. I still hope this feature also comes with a firmware upgrade to the X2D and then the X2D comes really close to the H6D and has a much lower price tag.
