Having shot with the Hasselblad X2D with the 55mm f2 and the 90mm, I can relate how you felt. It has a very professional feel, one of smooth, slick and yet makes you feel you're in control, hence why you slow down and shoot each shot with intention. I liked what you shot as the colours were popping and the final image of the model skin tone... brilliant.
As someone who owns a Hasselblad mirrorless system let me just say that the EVF is really detailed and sharp. With that said if you shoot at narrow apertures you can just manual focus and if your image looks sharp in the EVF your image will come out sharp.
You have to use back-button AF so the camera doesn't refocus at every release and it becomes much much faster. At apertures used in studio it's nonsense to refocus each shot. You have only to refocus with a back button press when the model or the photographer moves.
@@jean-claudemuller3199 I have an eye continuous focus on my Canon. Why I should dedicate extra button for a “back button” ? For the price you paid your camera should be able to talk to the models, assist with their poses and shoot through the walls
Next time I'm over that side of the pond, I want to let you use my Pentax 645z. I would love to see what you thought of it and the pictures you produce with it.
I just discovered your channel, and I’m learning so much. I love how you explain your setups. Great work. I have one question: why did you put the negative fill on sides of the model?
because in studio if there's no ambient light, flash duration is the shutter speed. Just google phrase "flash duration" and you'll get a lot of sources to learn about it
Thanks! I could've put it higher because as mentioned, the camera syncs with flash up to 1/2000s, but I'm just used to shooting with it quite low on other cameras and tbh it doesn't make much difference!
Hey Ian, i love all your videos and work. I was wondering if you could talk more about finding a team and how you reach out to people to collaborate on fashion editorials. If it's through instagram/magazines and maybe even how you send that initial email message!
Hasselblad X1D's and X2D work with a Nikon licensed i-TTL system. All todays TTL flashes and TTL transmitters for Nikon work on these Hasselblad cameras. Personally I use Nikon i-TTL flashes, Elinchrom Nikon TTL transmitter, Profoto Nikon TTL transmitter, some Profoto A1 for Nikon flashes
Its the best camera in my opinion. The X1D is so cheap and beats every leica out there. It has the best colors in my opinion. There is no camera that could beat Hasselblad.
@@ianhippolyte I replied and was deleted. Basically what you did the second time, more evenly lit. The first one has hot spots, very dark distinct zones, and lots of shadows. I posted a link to the picture, that’s why it was deleted I guess.
You should try GFX 100s - it's faster than X2D, it got eye-tracking AF and got overall better ergonomics with controls outside instead putting them in menu like Hasselblad did.
Love the images you produced. Fantastic. Absolutely agree with you with the whole 4/3 aspect ratio thing. I can't stand 3/2 these days. As for the camera. Hmm, interesting. Hassy is obviously sending this kits out to various photographers that UA-cam, and across multiple photographic genres. I wonder if they are trying to offload stock of those lenses (when the X2D was released, Hassy announced a new series of lenses). The Hassy is a beautiful work of art, great ergonomics. But the lower cost, more flexible focal plane shutter, and the fact that you can tether with Capture One or Lightroom, I can't help but feel the Fujifilm GFX100S is the "better" system. That said, I understand why historically Capture One never supported Medium Format cameras except for those made by Phase One; Phase One used to own Capture One. But since Capture One was spun off into an independent company, they've added Fujifilm medium format support. Why can't they do the same for Hassy?
Model's skin is beautiful !! Fantastic shots. I'm picking up a X2D soon
The colors are so dope! Her skin, and the orange backdrop! He's dope!

Two words! Ahhh Mazing! Hasselblad was smart to send this to you!
thank you!!
Just amazing!!
Thank you!
I finally found my favorite youtube channel.
As someone who owns a Hasselblad mirrorless system let me just say that the EVF is really detailed and sharp. With that said if you shoot at narrow apertures you can just manual focus and if your image looks sharp in the EVF your image will come out sharp.
I borrowed it from a friend, nothing special about your EVF compared to Canon
@@forgewire Never said it was “special“.
@@forgewire Who said it was more special than any other camera 🤣

Sensational work! Thank you for sharing - love watching you work and seeing the results. Excellent
Really appreciate that, Chris! Thank you :)
One love❤️ Great video as always💃Thank you!

🔥💪🏼😍💪🏼🔥
the color choice contrast is 👌🏼👌🏼sweet!
This is a beautiful session... good work. You never disappoint.
Dope video Ian! Beautiful shots 🫶❤
Thank you! 🤍
Could you please elaborate on your tethered workflow in this session ? Thanks !
You did make the best choice. Thanks for sharing
Exceptional review of this camera, and the use of the various lens. Big follower and supporter of your work. Great video
Really appreciate that! Thank you 🙏🏾
Great work as always my man
Sweet!! Awesome presentation of camera and sample photos.
thanks for the support, Joseph 🫶🏾
Absolutely beautiful shots, and appreciate those lighting breakdowns! Hope to rent a digital hasselblad soon to test out myself 🤞🏻
Thank you! It’s definitely worth trying out!
Your work is great and your videos are first rate. Thanks.
I appreciate that!
Great content, thanks! I'm poised to buy this camera.... The shots you produced are simply great. Beautiful work.
I love your photos, you are an inspiration
so kind, thank you 🙏🏾
If anything I appreciate the diagrams for the lighting set ups
pleasure to watch
I may be stupid - but - what kind of spray are you using?
Cool - I always use iPad for my Digital Assistant - its just easier being completely untethered
Just wow
What is the thing sticking up on the top of the camera? Thank you for the video awesome job!!
Next time I'm over that side of the pond, I want to let you use my Pentax 645z. I would love to see what you thought of it and the pictures you produce with it.
Great work on the videos!! Hope to see another one by summer or fall if your not busy.
Just wondering - how is it medium format, if the shots shows are 3:4 aspect ratio? Used to medium format film cameras with square frames :)
I just discovered your channel, and I’m learning so much. I love how you explain your setups. Great work. I have one question: why did you put the negative fill on sides of the model?
Thanks! Just to stop the light bouncing around and add a bit more contrast :)
Very nice,Ian! One question pls,i had a godox system, can i still keep it if i upgrade to hassleblad? Thank you for help 🙏🏼
This camera is worth more then most peoples life savings.
amazing! great work! what is that orange cable connected from the camera to the monitor? what is the purpose of it?
It's a TetherTools cable - basically a USB-C to USB-C cable that transfers the files from the camera to my computer
Hey was that a profoto d2?
Great video!

Match better quality then the Shots of the cannon 5dmk4
Wow amazing work! What was the light behind the camera for? Like a fill or something?
Yep, that’s the silver umbrella I was talking about

Which profoto air remote did you use? Did they also made an air remote TTL for Hasselblad?

i love it

Thanks so much! 🙏🏾
I was think the same thing. Drop a video every 2-3 weeks if you can. 😎

Very nice captures. Yes the AF is not exactly the best.
ngl need that jacket
I like the medium and the close ups, on the wide shots the background is not well lit, looks kind of messy.
Ah really? How would you have lit it?

no face or eye tracking. 8.2k for what?
Ahh yes. Hasselblad. The brand that’s been around for hundreds of years. Established in 1841.
That’s the one 😉
