As an African American, I'm perplexed when some of my friends say they're voting for Trump. Democrats have a number of issues, but in my opinion, a vote for Trump isn't in our best interest. Also, my friends voting for Trump are big on conspiracy theories, so imagine that. Lol
As a white guy I'm right there with you on all the points you made. That part about the people who are pro-Trump being big on conspiracy theories really resonated.
Minority voters should pay attention to the plans being laid by Stephen Miller etc to eliminate the programs that help the economic disadvantaged and minorities.
They believe whites should get equal or more benefits
He exploits these people the most.... like chickens voting for Colonel Sanders... he wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire....it's puzzling to say the least.
As a white female retired and generally an independent, I have never voted for the orange Jesus and I can’t imagine how any woman or man who cares about women and families could bring themselves to vote republican at all. If they do, it’s because they have believed his lies and they are about voting for grievances and a dictator. We have got to vote blue all the way down ballot 💙🇺🇸💙🇺🇸
@@gailwood2734 I am also retired. I have been a Democrat all my life as were my parents before me. I will die a Democrat. I believe many Republicans feel the same way. My daughter married into a family who are almost all Republican. (Two of my Granddaughters are the exceptions). My point is that based on my experience, I would never change my Party affiliation. If Trump were running as a Democrat I would definitely rethink that.

But the biggest problem for Dems is Biden’s age. While attacking Trump doesn’t move voters, they see that the side claiming to be the side of reasoned governance, chose a candidate who is clearly feeble.
It’s not that they hate old people. But they hate the hypocrisy of being told Trump’s a bag of hammers but Biden is A-OK. And Biden’s messaging is incompetent. They can’t convince people that Trump is responsible for Roe!! Imagine how useless you have to be to lose that argument.

She has been feeling very depressed about the coming election so I made her listen to Simon’s forecast for the Democratic Party and our democracy. We hope he’s right. Ditto. As a 73 YO woman, it’s been disheartening to see how quickly women’s rights are diminished. We fought so hard back then. Younger people just don’t know how bad it was back then for women. We cannot go back.

At best they carve out limited immunity for official acts on behalf of the people and provide some direction to the lower courts. Non of which will apply to Trump. I still think this trial could commence in the fall.
The Roberts Court has no coherent legal philosophy. They stand only for the expansion of authoritarian power.

Not only are polls meaningless, but you don't even hear about the polls yhat have Biden winning bu double digits. As long as we vote. And not stupidly by voting 3rd party Trump can't win. He's never won any popular vote. He's lost just about every election court case, decision, the past 8 yrs. Trumps popularity is a mirage. A media creation. Yes there is the Electoral college. But Trump would have to flip almost every vote in 2020. It can't be overstated how much Trump is hated by America. Polls are manufactured to get their desired results. All tou have to do is watch Trump and Republicans to see they know the end game. All this craziness needs to be turned into massive turnout in 2024
This supreme court has no compass -- no pretense even to textualism, not a whiff of originalism, no interest in precedent case law. There doesn't seem to be any pretzel shape they won't twist into in order to give the republican nominee a pass.

Always appreciate Bulwark insights. Thank you for being here. I live in deep MAGA here in eastern NC. Bringing forth how problematic Trump is will not be enough in deep MAGA. Strategy must also include not just excellent progress Biden has made (means nothing here) but why he is not as awful as they think, based on what they value. I personally use Biden dedication to troops and contrast with Trump statements on MCCain, “prisoners of war are losers” etc. This part of NC is home to numerous key military installations. Provide more of these if you have them - they likely change depending on geography. Thanks again.
Rosenberg is an articulate and persuasive spokesman for the cause. I hope he has it right. It’s vexing that Trump has 46 percent of the voters locked in. And then there is Kennedy.

Good afternoon from the blustery SF Bay Area. One of the best things that has happened for me in this awful era is finding camaraderie with Republicans. I am a huge fan of the Bulwark network and listen to it all the time in spite of being an old school Bay Area liberal. I was feeling so low this morning after Harry Litman's report on SCOTUS and Simon was just the antidote I needed. Everyone must step up and do it ourselves, Liz said," No one is coming to save us, we must save ourselves." I'm with her, who knew that was possible! Tell everyone to read Project 2025, they are TELLING us the dark truth of what they want to do.

I never liked TFG. I said in 2018, he was showing early signs of dementia. How do I know? My Father had signs of it in 2008 and died of Alzheimer's in 2014. We lived it 24/7 for 6 years and what Simon Rosenberg said about his daughter working with patients deteriorating is absolutely spot on. I've felt it from my experience also. He is erratic and talks in circles all the time. TFG doesn't need to be in any office in our govt ever again, and we need to vote out the MAGA faction also. I would love to see the old conservative Republicans stand up and take back their party. Where parties can argue over bills yet accomplish something, no matter who's the majority. Big money in politics needs to go too. That's influencing things way too much away from we the people.

My daughter started college in 2004. During her first semester, as she was walking across campus, she noticed a group of students standing around a table that was set up with clip boards & petitions to sign, & the college kids were walking around with signs. My daughter asked one of them what they were protesting, and I don't remember what the girl answered, maybe something about the so-called "war on terrorism" or peace in the middle east or save the whales...whatever. She asked the girl, so are you for this or against this, & the girl answered, "I don't know, but do you wsnt to sign the petition?" My dadeclined!

I think Tuesday's primary in Pennsylvania provides more solid information than all the polls done in that state.
PA the seat of our country's Founding will not vote for a dictator. I have faith in them.
Those voters were the most tuned-in most informed of all of them. They are unrepresentative of the masses. Polls in the 2020 election underestimated Trump's support by 4 points nationally. I still know all the same people who voted for him the last two times are going to do it again, except one. Many democrats are really fed up with Biden however. I'm going by people I know well. This is going to be a close election or an outright Trump win. Biden is historically unpopular, even more than Carter. I think it is all the RW media ecosystem that has been doing its job and is more effective each cycle. Democrats are the underdog in the next presedential election. These court cases make for good political theater, but are not going to change minds. Trump is up anywhere from 1pt to 8 or 9 nationally. Biden has a heavy lift to win states like Nevada. All these conclusions are from David Axelrod, Obama's chief campaign strategist. The silver lining in his opinion is Trump is crazy, his own worst enemy. Biden and his supporters will have to work like hell to make this race competitive. If the election were held today, Biden would lose decisively. The more who decide to donate and door knock, the better the outlook will be. There are millions who dislike Biden who need to be educated, that he *has* gotten things done and isn't a terrible guy.
Pennsylvania is a closed primary. We could only vote for the party you're registered, but it was encouraging to see so many republicans still voting for Haley. They are rejecting tRump.
The key words this year are its up to us.

You always overrate 2022. Here in Florida (3rd largest state!), we Dems didn't even try to win and thus gave the U.S. House to MAGA/GOP and gave Rubio 6 more years. Our campaigning was so miserable that only HALF of registered Dems bothered to vote. When do Dems start fighting for this huge, diverse, winnable state? (Winnable due to 5 MILLION Social Security recipients who know nothing of GOP's hate for SS/Medicare.)

I truly hope Biden remains healthy. As to the Hispanic vote, the illegal immigration problem does need to be addressed, without alienating Hispanics - how to accomplish that? The loss of women’s rights and healthcare must be relentlessly repeated. We need to reach out to independents and former Trump voters, who really want an alternative this time around.

Tim, in 1968 we had a draft! The college protests today are very pale wannabe gatherings compared to the protests then. Boyfriends, brothers, cousins, etc were being sent to Vietnam Nam to die. The feelings in the country were beyond angry and then Nixon got elected! Can you imagine?!

Such a scary time. My oldest brother was very close to being old enough for the draft when the war ended. I remember how scared our whole family was. I feel much the same way now. Complete disbelief that we could even allow someone who tried to overthrow the last election be on the ballot makes me question everything about my country.
