Hmm, possibly the first tram to 'use' that particular crossover? lol I saw something similar last year when 643 (I think?!) split the points at North Pier. It caused an epic tram jam in both directions!
@37057viking Hello Rob, I have seen your pics of the 643 incident. 644 manage to mess up the entire mornings timetable. 644 ran back to the depot without performing a tram service. Did see another interesting thing today at the Gynn Square, and that was it looks like they have discovered the old track that use to go up Dickson Road. I think this line was shut some 50 years ago.
It looks like the blade of the points had moved far enough to catch the next tram that passed. In this instance it was #744. How they would do that I do not know if they were not meant to be in use. This is a disused crossover, as there is no overhead wire. Maybe it was left as a convenience that the Engineers would use? The driver wouldn't necessarily have noticed the blade was in the wrong position until he was unable to brake safely without giving his passengers a fright.
@37057viking Makes you wonder how much of the old track is still down at Gynn Square, and also if it has delayed the remaining work to be done around the Gynn.
@dalrigh Hmm, interesting. They discovered the old track at Winter Gardens about 9-10 years ago , only to remove it as part of road works around that area!
@gymnos2010 Originally I thought this might of been the line that went up Dickson Road, but it now looks possible that it might be the third line that was at Gynn Square, due to finding a old postcard image on the internet.
@srpott40 Not sure why this happened, I was originally at North Pier and didn't see anything going north for a while so went to investigate. I think the reason they had to removed the points cover was because their was know hole in the cover to alter points. Good job there was nothing coming the other way.
