I was taught that every layer of drywall needs mud or caulk to seal off any air gaps, yet I do not see you doing it on the first layer of gypsum. Is there are reason why not to do it?
Loving the videos by the way, tickles my DIY feels ;-)

Thanks for the comment and loving your channel BTW! 👍🏻
There is definitely no harm in sealing the first layer of board and this is something we have tried in the past. Because we stagger the boards there isn’t a direct pathway through the joins.
I guess here in the UK we plaster everything which gives a 3mm seamless finish to the internal layer which essentially makes the room airtight (apart from the vents of course).
So it’s definitely worth caulking every layer if you have time but we found because it’s the same material it acts like 1 thick layer so made no difference - or if it did it wasn’t something that changed the performance of the soundproofing.
      That’s our experience anyway 👍🏻

We don’t use it mainly because of the cost and the fact it only comes in the tapered version. Because we use a multi-wall system 2 layers of standard plasterboard works well! 👍🏻 We have used the Soundbloc boards in the past sandwiched between 2 standard boards but we found it didn’t add anything to the soundproofing!
