I'm visiting my parents from out of town for the holiday. I asked my mom to crochet me a mask, the first pattern I found yielded results of an oversized mask that covered my entire face. This pattern was perfect. I love the final result.. much more comfortable, breathable and fashionable... I'll soon have one in red, one in blue and one white.
Very easy to follow! Definitely needed to crochet a mask, especially here Hawaii. It has be come hot and humid and so difficult to breath. Everyone feels like they are suffocating so many people here pulls the masks below their noses. I'm going to crochet my masks for my family and friends. Also for grandchildren who are or may go back to school come August. Right now there is a conflict of interest on these children using masks all during school. I want their put on how well the can breath. Again as we say in Hawaii much Mahalo (thank you). Aloha and Malama (keep safe).
I just finished mine! This mask is beautiful and easy to make. A huge thank you for this tutorial! Can you believe I didn't have a mask until now? I have ordered many online, but none have arrived. Finally I thought, "I should just make one myself."
Thank you so much. For this pattern. I made mine out of cotton, as acrylics tend to bother my skin. I also made a bamboo one for my daughter. Thank you again. Stay safe 💙
I'm currently working on my first one and I'm using Coboo by Lion Brand. Someone else had a good tutorial on face mask making and had a link to the best material to use for it according to a scientific lab that is testing materials for this purpose. Next too having a surgical mask a cotton polyester blend t-shirt was best so I got the Coboo cuz it's Cotton and bamboo
Ugh! It didn't work for me. It ended up too stiff. I must have had too tight of tension, so I frogged it and went with one strand, but the size K hook... I like it. 😊
I made one yesterday, hard to tie behind your head, had to cut yarn & sew ends together so they loop around my ears. Next one I will make with loops instead.
A friend gave me the printed pattern and I began making the mask before viewing this tutorial. I've been crocheting for years so thought hey I can do this. I was unclear about how the ties were to be incorporated into the mask. I thought they were made separate and then attached until I found the tutorial. To avoid confusion to others, my suggestion would be to move the Crochet Ties instructions as next paragraph after DO NOT TURN. DO NOT FASTEN and include "Continue by chaining 59, etc." Hope this helps.
Front loop only doesn't have the stretch that working in the back loop only does. That's why when you make ribbed cuffs you make your stitches in the back loop only and it has a lot more give without losing the density of the fabric
If you don’t have elastic laying around, go through your old camisoles or bras and no doubt you have some laying around you don’t ever really plan to use. Wala - there’s your elastic! That’s what I did since they’re getting a premium for elastic on the Internet now, of course.
Hey, I am using Peaches and Creams 100% cotton which a h hook is making too many holes. It requires a h hook but you went to sizes down from the require hook. I thought I would use a F hook. So how many stitches do I need for that?
Barbara S not sure if you got an answer. I am not any kind of an expert at all but I would try gauging your stitches to see if you can or if you need a different hook. Count how many stitches it takes to make your gauge. That’s my guess anyways. Hope this helps some. Stay well!
@@bellac2356 me too, i put it over another mask I made, and I made mine out of cotton so hopefully it will add that extra layer of protection as the other mask I made slips off my nose which isn't great
Hi. I received a crochet face mask as a gift. How do i care for it, can wash it in the machine and dryer or only handwash and air dry? Please advise Thanks
Easy pattern except the ends. Hard to insert the hook into the last stitch b4 turning your work. So that the side of the mask are lined up evenly. 😁 Other than that, excellent! Thank you.
I'm a lefty, or "southpaw" as my Grandma said, too. Look for Good Knit Kisses pod cast she has about the best left handed tutorials that I've found, and she teaches from the ground up both knitting and crochet. I'm learning knitting from her. Learned crochet from Grandma when I was 5. Good luck 👍👌😘 and happy learning
Found a great way to test the safety of your masks. Put mask on. Light a candle. Try to blow it out while wearing mask. If you can add another layer. If you can't your mask is safe.
The thumbs down may be from her saying, "HDC" rather than "half double crochet" would be my theory. Why she does it is anyone's guess. People only call the stitches by their abbreviated forms when writing a pattern for clarity of reading and expediency. However, when speaking, it may cause confusion; especially if one is not familiar with the abbreviation, or it is similar to another abbreviation.
I'm making mine out of Lion Brand Coboo, a cotton bamboo blend that according to the lab that is conducting tests on different materials for making and lining masks, works better then just plain cotton but plain cotton is next in line to the blend.🌟😉
Nancy Macfarlane: Try to use cotton yarn. I’m making a filter so I can insert the cotton fabric folded in half. I use a different video for that. Greggy’s Crochet. And a different and to me easier to make the pocket is: Angel Knits Too.
Can't crochet!!! :( Please post different video for knitting this mask, a lot of knitters would appreciate it! There are very few knitted masks out there, always crochet.... Thanks
Crocheting yields different-looking patterns from knitting. You can't match one with the other to look the same. You should try it, it's way easier than knitting, and faster in my opinion. Hope this helps.

Thank you for sharing! Never did I think I would need to crochet a face mask in my life 🙄 everbody stay safe
If you just whip stitch it in you can remove it later for washing
The easiest and prettiest mask I've seen thus far. So, needless to say, I'm trying this version next. Thanks for sharing.

Nice and comfortable but with summer coming it is hot to wear this.
Just an idea..cut fabric on a bias to get more stretch.👍

I have seen these crochet masks that use a button to attach to your beanie...could this be done with this pattern?
Finally made it and I feel proud 🤭🤭 but it was so tiny, so I put it on my doll😂😂
Very easy to follow and to do. Thankyou.
Thank you I’m gonna try this tomorrow in navy 💖👏
I have made a few of these but I do not sew the short sides to the mask but leave it open to make a filter pocket.
I have been thinking of trying cotton yarn so you don't get so warm. Thank you!
I've made three or four out of cotton. Easy to wear so far this spring. I used a different tutorial tho, BonnieBayCrochet.
jd quinitchette Did BonnieBay use cotton in here video? I did see her video but didn’t watch it yet

I made mine out of cotton. Turned out great🤗🤗🤗
I am using cotton yarn and h hook. It is making too many holes when using blo.
Thank you. I made mine with three strands of Caron soft and a K hook for a thicker, softer mask. :)
Awesome idea! ❤

Thanks for the pattern, I made one for me and my bf,had to readjust it to fit his face . Thanks again
Can I do that with fabrics too?
Crochet in Front loop and front bump For tighter stitches - That will close the holes.
If you make one in the front stitch, please share a photo

Can the liner be sewed on the sewing machine and/hot glued down.
If I am going to crochet it for a kid .. How many stich can I start with?
Please answer 😷
I understand the point of having the decreases, but why not have increases at the beginning to make that shape on the top and bottom of the mask?
thank you for posting this!!
Awesome Tutorial! I love it and the mask came out so nice. Thank you for sharing
Not sure what to do after the second strap is worked ?
Am making this rite now with cotton yarn!😜

Diane Fowler I’m wondering the same!
Yep

Regarding the lining, if you can blow out a match with the mask on it's not protecting you.
It would be helpful to indicate the yardage needed for one mask in the pattern.

You machine wash and dry.
Do you have a separate tutorial for the gray mask in the photo?
Hi Katy, the gray mask is our Knit version of the pattern. You can find the tutorial here: ua-cam.com/video/DCJ8h-nRuLs/v-deo.html

Thanks so much for this pattern and tutorial. 🤗💖
Thank-you
Thank you for the tutorial looks good 😊 I hope I can do It.

Eight thumbs down, I feel she did a wonderful presentation of this mask, especially sewing on the filter. Thank you 😊 so much.

I did this with cotton handicraft yarn instead and it was still too hot.
Great pattern! Can’t wait to try this pattern. Thank you. ☺️
Anyone knows how to increase the chain to make this a little wider my husband has a huge beard
Just add the extra chains ,so you will have more slip sts and more sc
Is it possible to crochet from cotten instead of acrilic?
Yes. I use Hobby Lobby I Love this Cotton. It will work better as a filter. Just use a 4 in weight.
Hi! Yes, you could do this pattern with a worsted weight cotton yarn.

Yes you can i did not like the ties.
Thank you 😊 glad you can do it
I can't get my hook in the last slip stitch of the row...anyone have any suggestions for me? Stay safe everyone!
I used a smaller crochet hook to ease the stitch out
I made several but holy moldy they are way too hot
They will be good to use come winter to help prevent icing up your lungs. 😉

I don't have a lining fabric
I bought anti-allergy pillow cases for mine
Make your mask double thick and put a coffee filter between the 2 layers.
