  • Televoid! A series created by brutalmoose! A couple of people suggested Televoid to me while ago, but I never got round to making a video on the show. So, here it is! Hope you enjoy I decided to present this Televoid theory in the style (sort of) of Televoid itself.
I encourage you all to check out the series if you haven't already and make up your own theories too!
    All the best! Take care!

Honestly, I don’t think he’s trapped in a ‘ small room’ I think it’s meant to be a literal ‘ void’ it’s full of endless black space, and it would make sense that he can pull out random stuff...as a void would serve perhaps as a black hole he could pull stuff out of.

So wait- is "Inside a Mind" a double entendre? Something applicable to both your theorizing, and your lore?

I feel like this theory is half right. I believe Ian is trapped inside a mind... specifically, inside the mind of his creator, Ian. He's free to be the Ian of Televoid only when there's a Televoid episode. The Higher Power is the actual Ian, Brutalmoose, for whom the utility of this character- his entire existence -begins and ends with using him for Televoid. Which means those long gaps, the pained tortured expressions, the lack of anything to do or enjoy, comes from the very concept of the show. Ian can make anything appear... during the span of an episode. So the exercise bike is still there between episodes, but not a bookshelf or games or something else to make the long dreadful wait in the void better. And trying to be more than Ian of Televoid causes him injury because that's not his place. There's already an Ian outside Televoid, the one in the real world, and trying to be more than that is straining him to his limits while also being fought against by his creator. Who, in terms of the character he's created, is pseudo-omnipotent. Piss off the real Ian too much, and bam. Collapse to the floor and be replaced next time. But can a creator really ever forget the damage he does to his own creations? Or will their pain carry over to any 'other' incarnations? That's how you end up with multiple Ians but ones whose actions and reactions seem to bleed into one another. That's my two cents, anyway.

I want to add to your theory the 3 lines Ian says at 13:00 : " what if I'm just words on a page , or frames on a screen, or thoughts in somebody's head". When you take this with you're theory they make a lot more sense ! Because that's what Ian is, or at least the character Ian in the televoid. Let's first take the "thoughts in somebody's head" part: before a character exist, someone has to think of this character. Then when this person decide to make their character "Real" (making them show on videos or else) they will wright down the scenario of a story : "words on a page". And then, the final stage : "frames on a screen" thé character is showing up on the video making him part of the multiple frame there is on a screen to show us a simple video...

I honestly didn't think too much about Televoid. I just thought it was how he was introducing a new "segment" for his videos. And things like him being in the TV and objects appearing were just for comedic value, same for the rest of the weird things... I should start thinking deeper about this kind of stuff...

9:14 IDK if you mention this later but the email he takes off of the pile (not the one you read out loud, the one that was on top of that one) says (anything in [brackets] is just a note I made for clarity, but everything else is directly transcribed, including errors):

From: Jackson Skilton [Picture blurry. Not sure if last name spelled right]
Dear Ian of the Televoid universe, are you okay? Everytime we see you, it's only when your TV works. Even then when we see you, you're sitting in front of that tv. D-do you have any running water? Do you have any food? Are you even in a place of residence? What is happening?

Also, notice how there are a lot of safety videos, Maybe he got in some sort if car accident while riding his bike, and someone not safely walking got in there somewhere. The Baby Game could represent his life flashing before his eyes or something, and maybe the car honked it's horn but Ian wasn't listening. I don't know, but I think the videos he reviews represent something.

Maybe he was put in a coma not that he died, he's going through old memories. Near the end when he got worse it's showing what he looks like in his coma. Everytime he tries to explain the static cuts him off meaning he doesn't have an answer. Just thinks he does. When he passes out he could have broke through and woke up then fell back asleep which is why he was so upset when he was brought back

This could just be a coincidence, but all of the commercials at the beggining of each episode starts with a C (Cereal, Cat food, Cake, Ciggarettes) except the last one which is Ice Cream, and starts with an I.

I think Televoid is about a youtube series gone wrong. Ian has some absurdist humor, and the idea probably popped into his head "what if i do my normal humor but darker" one day. I think the main character of Televoid is being forced to make the series, whether he wants to or not. 3/5 episodes have a theme of safety. The main character isn't safe. On a bit of deeper meaning, probably coming from the poetic side of me, Ian (the person, not the character), might feel like he HAS to make videos on schedule or people will be really mad. I think that's common with a lot of youtubers. Televoid seems to be part dark absurdist humor, part letting out anxiety coming from trying to always be producing new videos, and part about feeling stuck in one place. A common thing for everyone is feeling like you're at a standstill in life. And what better way to feel better about it than making/watching a comedy series about that negative feeling?

  • @sebamc4
    @sebamc4 6 років тому +34

DUDE! I'm kinda sleep depived so I don't have the energy to do it, but i had this idea while watching the last episode of televoid.
You see, the episode "A message to no one" is about listening and a message that probably no one would hear. The next episode starts with a fairy singing "Listen, listen, listen".
So, when the skunk appears on top of the tv and tells Ian to listen to his message but Ian (nor us) didn't heard anything, only background noise, then an ominous music starts on the background.
My idea was that Ian or that Skunk hid a message in the audio of the video, a hidden message that no one would hear "A message to no one".
So if one of you could download the video, put it in an audio program, and go through the video (or at least the parts with only the background noise) searching for maybe a hidden audio clip or something.
Don't know... I'm going to sleep now.
    Bye.
Love the video, by the way.

This was really interesting but I was actually surprised by your conclusion. From the start, I actually saw it more as Ian possibly being a character created by someone that gained sentience. Every time he expresses his own thoughts and feelings outside what the creator of his show/character wrote into his script (the cards in episode 1), he obviously faces backlash or censorship. The time in between each episode represents him being aware, perhaps subconsciously, of the fact that he can only do the episodes when his creator has prepared them. Over time he starts to become more aware of the fact that his existence is, in fact, simply "thoughts inside someone's mind" (that being his creator). I'm probably not explaining this very well, hahahaha. To be fair, I didn't even know about this series until I watched your video on it so I'm going at it completely fresh, and I haven't taken as much time to analyze it. This was just my initial impression.

So I know that nobody will probably read this, but here's something I thought was worth noting:
I wanted to point out that the commercial at the beginning of episode 5 starts with the words "now listen" echoing in and out, those words could have at least something to do with the theme of the previous episode, which was listening. Why do I think this has any significance? Because in episode 3, in the part with "Race your baby" you can see clips from the commercial at the beginning of that episode, the one about banana cake, and mind that Ian was actually watching that. So Ian could either be fully aware of the commercials before each episode (which would be weird considering the beginning of episode 4), or he couldn't and it's just a fun 4'th wall break.

Something I noticed - at 17:50, after he ineviews baby 3, his eyes get bags (or something like that idk) around them. Something to note it is *after* he asks a question about free time and what they do in it. And when he says 'fasanating' with a scarcastic tone, and everything after that for a while, he is snapping it out, like he is angry or annoyed. So using that, and your theory, I think his mind is using or reflecting on the fact that when he was younger, he would spend all his free time watching tv, and, using his parents views on that, it could explain why. Because his parents wanted him to do anything else, but he didn't want to, or watched tv out of spite.
So what I'm saying is that him asking this question is a call back to his parents not wanting him to spend all his free time watching tv. And him using a scarcastic/annoyed tone could be a refernce to his parents telling him not to watch tv.
But the blood, maybe it's something to do with the saftey videos - road since it was the first one - and the next question was about saftey, suggesting something happened to him.
But the bags, begining of his transformation (bags to blood to floor) could be saying *how* he got into this, he watched to much tv, possibly missing sleep (or sitting to close to the tv) then an accedient -blood and saftey videos- then that caused him to go into this state, a coma or death?
*I don't know, but I just wanted to say something about that.*

I think the Televoid is more likely something akin to the Black Lodge in Twin Peaks; a place that doesn't follow the rules of the universe as we understand them where Ian is trapped and forced to make this show. The one email in episode 3 mentions the Televoid spreading, which would probably be facilitated by Ian's broadcasts.

I really like this theory, but I got something totally different from it? I kinda thought it might be about the audience taking the power away from the creator, i mean, brutalmoose's whole channel is based on a similar idea as televoid, the whole 'reviewing obscure kids content', I thought he was saying that the audience tends to only care about a creator when they're making content, i mean in episode one, theres the static interruption when hes discussing himself and where he got all the shows and basically anything OTHER than the actual reviewing-content of the episode....in the beginning of episode 2 he talks about how he 'ceases to exist' in the time between releasing content which kind of lends itself to the impatient audience asking why something hasn't been released yet, he only 'exists' when hes reviewing content or having direct creator-to-audience interaction, the 'higher power' is the audience itself as it basically explains what he should be doing and when it should be released, when he tries to ignore this 'higher power' in favour of what he wants to do, he is punished in a sense....I could be totally wrong but I love the idea that its a commentary on the role of the creator in relation to their audience, and the obligation that comes with a larger online presence.

This is a brilliant satire of the online review formula.
In shows like The Angry Video Game Nerd and the Nostalgia Critic (along with many, many, many others) the main character who reviews the content is just introduced to us in the sense of the review with no explanation. Common tropes include self insertion into what they're reviewing, living parodies of characters in the content appearing in the reciew room, and props appearing seemingly out of nowhere. All Televoid does is question these tropes, and it works to great effect.

These are some really interesting points! But, I disagree with you on the conclusion. I believe that rather than being all in Ian's head, Televoid is something of a testing ground for advertisers trying to figure out the effects of being given only ads and "educational" videos to try and shape one's mind. I got that from not only the ads that always play before the episodes, but the fact that every show he watches is either a glorified ad like Baby Game or heavily sponsored to get a message across like A Message To No One.

    • @BK-ku1zt
      @BK-ku1zt 6 років тому

I disagree, that seems way too niche. It would serve no purpose, it isn't really thought provoking and it fits it less.
The glorified ads make sense because if all he does it watch television and think about television, when he goes mad you'd expect those to appear and be frequent with a lovely twist due to the insanity of it all.

The "all in his head" thing is lazy and overused. I really wish it's something close to Twilight Joltik's theory. It's too much of an interesting set up to slap the "it wasn't real ooooo" ending on it. Pure uninspired laziness, imo. BrutalMoose can and will do better than that.

It seems that with the emails’ warnings and static, there’s something pulling the strings, but to end up going with the cliche theory of “Oh, the main character is dead/in a coma seems to me like kind of a cop out for such an interesting series.

I was more drawn to the idea that he’s “frames on a screen”. I mean, he’s only in use when the show is being filmed, maybe his existance is purely for the sake of filming Televoid episodes?

  • @spadetheimmortalgamer

I just had an idea. All of the episodes are presented "in colour" and in pre-episode/ end of episode sequences are in grey tones, and in the early episodes he is in a dark room where he "dies" could the dark room/ the grey scale pre-episode time, represent death and or depression? And how it's always in colour when he's watching tv aka his escape. Just an idea tho.

This was a good video but I disagree. I think someone has trapped Ian in the Telavoid and forced him to review old vhs tape. They don't want us to free him which is why they don't want him to read fan mail or tell us what Telavoid is. And when Ian was saying ' I'm trapped in the t-' and got cut off they didn't want him to finish because then we would know for sure that he is trapped somewhere.

      SCP: 1987: The Televoid
      Class: Keter
This SCP was found in the studio of a man named [REDACTED]. It appears to be a black room, and it contains a TV, a plant, a chair, and [REDACTED] himself, seemingly trapped within it. After containment, we placed various cameras around to study it, but it seems as though it has manipulated them to make some kind of show, where [REDACTED] looked at old and somewhat corny tv specials and read fan letters. Not strange as it seemed, but then we watched. We saw that it granted [REDACTED] strange, seemingly paranormal, powers that granted him to make anything he thought of appear, and the results were....strange, to say the least. They ranged from a talking skunk, to a drunk, anthropomorphic fox, all with some kind of strange quality to them. The first "episode" it produced was normal by reviewing show standards, but then we went into the second "episode", which was a little stranger than the former. The third "episode" was where we classed the void as a "keter", as it mentally attacked [REDACTED] using strange imagery based on what he watched that episode. Episode 4 was where we knew that this thing was a horrifying entity. [REDACTED] looked like he was in a horrible condition, with ragged hair and bags in his eyes. He didn't give an introduction and went straight into the episode. It was shown that it can manipulate speech, as [REDACTED] knew nothing of what he was watching, yet suddenly, he did. Near the end of the episode, as [REDACTED] was reading letters, but before he could read aloud, static appeared on the screen. But it looked as if the static somehow hurt him. His voice became distorted, and he was trying his hardest to read what only he knew as his only human interaction. He later passed out. I was doing late night studies on it, with [REDACTED] still out cold. Suddenly, the TV switched on to an episode of the very show it made, Televoid. The various characters [REDACTED] made were like a late show band, and [REDACTED] appeared onscreen, in very great condition, although I could still see his seemingly dead body in front of me. In the episode, which had a somewhat different format (white background rather than a black one, upgraded TV, etc.), he looked at a strange safety special that starred a safety themed superhero who could reverse time to make things safer. [REDACTED] *seemed* happy, yet for a second, he looked like how he was in the black room, tired and rugged, with a distorted and horrible message of death. He then returned to happiness afterward, that is, until the fan mail segment. One letter wanted to know about the main band members, 3 black and white babies. Everytime the camera cut away, [REDACTED] became more and more like his previous self, finally returning to "normal" before the TV changed to the special he watched. The superhero leapt from the TV and seemingly revived him. He looked around, and then fell into a deep sadness. We aren't currently sure what's next for him, but we do know that the Televoid has plans in the future.
This has been Prof. Darius Hattleby, signing out.

I don't like "its all in your head" theories, not because they don't have a "deeper meaning" but because they're cliche, overdone, and lazy, and 99 times out of 100 are not even accurate to the creator's idea or some other explanation is just as easily viable. The "its all not real" theory can just explain away literally anything and everything in everything. It's like the God of theories, you can't disprove it and that's annoying an obnoxious. Thankfully, you don't even really fully push that idea here. You're pushing more of a, "its just completely anomalous and unexplainable" theory which is much more satisfying and interesting, even if it's a bit cliche and overdone too.

    • @jasonfenton8250

Either that or "they're in purgatory owoo, spooky." They're propagated so much because they are near impossible to disprove. Detaching completely from the physical world makes anything possible, including any and all inconsistencies, because it's magic!

Summoning the bike helmet out of nowhere and appearing in the tv for a gag are common tropes in the "Entertainment Reviewing" community. These tropes are commonly used by people such as Jon Tron, the Angry Video Game Nerd, and the Nostalgia Critic.
I think Televoid is brilliant as it asks a simple question. "Wait, but, how do they do that?"
